    New Post op Sleeve

Wow, you got to move to pureed quickly. I have to do full liquids for 2 weeks and then 2 weeks of pureed. You can get protein in by adding protein to your pureed choices or chosing things that are already high protein - tuna, eggs, soft chicken, etc. Then just add extra unflavored protein to your shakes or puddings. Or to that tomato soup. Someone on here stated their doctor wanted them to wait a few weeks for tomato soup because of the acid. My doc did not mention it. I asked the nut. after I read that post and she said only if it was an issue, would I need to avoid it. Most people are on a PPI at this point and the acid in the soup should not bother most people. It does also count towards your liquid intake.

Not Quite A Year Out ...

That is fabulous. I am sorry you are having a hard time finding 4/6 's . I did not really think that would be an issue. Now it seems that everything I find is a 6, which does me no good yet. Maybe soon.
  3. well, i had my surgery monday. It is now thurs. Evening and i am still in hospital. I was supposed to go home today. They did my upper gi this morning and are keeping me because my tummy was sluggish. Well, the contrast for the upper gi is the most discusting stuff i have ever tasted. I really thought it was coming back up. I think they will do another in the morning. Is that right? What can i do about the sluggish tummy? I am walking and trying to drink.

    sluggish tummy ?

yes, things just not moving through it very well. I plan to walk, sip, sip, walk. Doc did tell me they r not doing another ugi. As long as ican get fluids down ok today he will let me go home. I just did not know if anyone ekse had this problem and if so how did it resolve?
  6. Soup was listed on my diet as part of full liquids. Unflavored protein powder added would be great though.

Less than 48 hours til surgery!

Ill be right behind you at 11:00 am Monday. See ya on the other side. It sounds like you have things pretty well covered.
  8. Thank you all for the support. My hubby is super supportive, but I don't think he really understands. I am so glad I found this forum. All the experienced advice is really helpful. I am feeling better about things today. Just trying to get laundry done and the house clean. Hubby will have enough going on with the 2 year old and me without starting behind. Gonna pack bag and enjoy a steak tonight. I am allowed a low carb dinner on my pre-op, but don't want to eat anything that heavy the night before surgery, so tonight is my last ribeye for a while and I am great with that.
  9. Thanks guys. I plan on taking the laptop, so hopefully I will feel up to emailing by tuesday at least. I hope anyway. Ill let you know.

14 weeks post op with pics

Congrats. That is amazing. You are doing awesome. Keep up the good work.
  11. I have noticed that some of you do clear liquids post op. My surgeon apparently only does clear liquids until you have your UGI on day 2 and then you can have full liquids for 2 weeks, then on to pureed. Had anyone else not had much of a clear liquid phase? Getting a little nervous anyway.
  12. Sexy Tee, What my surgeon recommends and is the cheapest (and i think the best tasting too) is sugar free carnation instant Breakfast, and add 1/3 cup dry powdered milk and mix with 8 oz skim milk. I think it then has 18 or so grams of protein. It is the cheapest option and does not have that medicine taste that some Protein drinks have. I have only been on pre-op do far. My surgery is the day before yours 01/17. Good luck. Will talk to you next week.

    Food aware

I am so looking forward to not obsessing about food. I am now on the pre-op diet and it is all I can think about. argggg.,
  14. You also have to remember. The point of the pre-op diet is not to lose weight. It is to shrink the liver. Weight loss can just be a side effect of it. My doctor does not really like the slimfast shakes either.

    Kimmes

On her profile it says she is logged in, so hopefully that is a good sign.
  16. I have protein shakes and a low carb dinner. My surgery is on the 17th, I have been on pre-op now for 10 days and have only lost 5 pounds. Really thought it would be more. I hope I have shrunk my liver. I have not cheated, well I probably eat more veggies at night than I should but they said if you were hungry to have them.
  17. Hi All. I was told by my surgeons office that my "packet" went to Cigna yesterday. Cigna is one of 4 companies in VA that covers VSG. Yeah me (I hope) . Has anyone been approved by Cigna? What type of turn around time was it? My doctors office says about 4 weeks, but that seems extreme. When I was considering Lapband I was told by my prior surgeons office (I changed because he did not do VSG) that the turn around time for approval with Cigna was usually 3-4 days. Anyone have any idea? I really need to know about taking clients next month. Don't want to turn away paying clients, but am ready to schedule surgery ASAP.

    5 Weeks out~Down 30lbs!

Congrats on doing so well. It is always inspirational to those of us waiting for surgery to read about results. I know it is for me anyway. Keep up the good work.
  19. There is a ton of information here. I love this site. I am scheduled for next Monday 01/17. Had my pre-op with surgeon today. Glad you found it here. I have been a lurker for about 4 months, while waiting on ins. approval, etc. Good luck with everything. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, etc. or just to keep in touch. It's much easier to talk with other WLS's I think.

  20. I would water it down. One of the things they told us in the preop class I went to was that alcohol is absorbed much quicker, so a 1/2 glass is like a couple of glasses previously as far as affect.
  21. Is there any way they can do both procedures at the same time? I know sometimes surgeons will coordinate to piggyback procedures. That way you only have anesthesia once. It is certainly worth asking your VSG surgeon. He is the one that would possibly have an issue. I can't imagine the GI guy having one.
  22. I would deff. go to a regular bra store and get measured. Bali has stores at most outlet malls, etc. They are super nice and really got me in the right size. I look forward to going again in a couple of months and picking out all new ones.
  23. I have not tried it hot. I will do that. Sounds yummy. Mom, your surgery is tomorrow? Mine is not until Monday. I will be thinking and sending warm thoughts and prayers your way.
  24. Have you asked your doctor for Zofran or Phenergan for the nausea? That might be a help.
  25. My doctor suggested to add dry, powdered milk to things to get extra protein. Tomato soup or sugar free carnation instant breakfast. I am still on pre-op, but I think the instant breakfast with the extra powdered mil tastes much better than some of the other options.
