    Work after surgery

I think it really varies from person to person and age is a factor too. I am 42. I went back to work at a part time desk job 3 weeks after surgery, with no problem. Some people on here go sooner and some later. If you can work part time from home for a while, I would certainly take advantage of that opportunity.
  2. Mine has not mentioned calories yet, but I am only 3 1/2 weeks out and still on soft foods. I am probably only at about 500-600 calories a day if that much. I have been in a stall for over a week and am going to try to up my calories for a few days and see if that helps.
  3. The gas will be absorbed and passed. I hope that is what your pain is, it is most likely. The BM issue continues to be an issue for me. You have been on a preop diet and only on liquids this week, so there is way less in there. Less in, Less out. Plus narcotics are horribly constipating. However, from the posts I have read on here, due to the decreased volume of food and the decreased amount of Fiber you will have to stay proactive for this to not be a problem. Some swear by Miralax, I have had mixed results with it. I seem to be doing pretty well with Activia yogurt. I would think once the drain comes out and the gas dissipates you should be much more comfortable and will be able to sleep. Try and hang in there. It will be all worth it in the long run.

    PICTURES!!

It is amazing what even 25 pounds can do. I am right with you, I had surgery on 021/17 and am down about 25 pounds. My pants are already getting too big and I just have a ton more energy. I can't wait to see what 50 and 75 are going to feel like.

    2 days out

I am so sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I had what sounds like the same physical feelings, extreme nausea and discomfort. I never wanted to take it back though. I waited too long to get here. I am now only 3 weeks out. I had my surgery on a Monday morning and really started feeling better about Thursday, apparently (from my upper GI) I had a lot of swelling in tummy and that made even sips of anything really hard to get down. By Thursday morning, it must have started going down because it suddenly was much easier to sip. Try to hang in there, it does get better. Everyone is starting at different places physically, so there is no set "magic" time you will start to feel better, but probably within the next few days you should hopefully have some improvement. I hope so. Please keep us updated.
  6. Good luck with your insurance company and on making your decision. I too was concerned about the person I was showing to my child. I wanted to be here to see him grow up and to be healthy and have the energy to keep up with him. I researched the band and the bypass also. I did not like the idea of them rerouting my bowels and I also did not like all the people I read about on the forums that had trouble with the band. There are a lot of people on this board who had the band first and had problems with it. There are many people who then had revisions to the sleeve because of complications. It seemed to me that there were less risks with the sleeve. That was how I reached my decision anyway. Good luck with yours.

    Filing through two offices?

Your insurance will probably only approve for one or the other. My fear if it was me would be it slowing the process down if they flag it or something.

    Scared

    Wow Bloomin, that is incredible.
  9. I too have Cigna. I jumped through their hoops and was approved on the first attempt. It took me about 8 months to jump through their hoops though. No one knows what your financial situation is but you. If I had the option of self pay, I probably would have gone ahead and had the surgery, we were just not in a financial situation where that was feasible. IF you are waiting for the six months though, you can go ahead and get all the other requirements done while you are awaiting that time to pass.

    Itchy Rash!

Did your doctor staple, suture them or use glue? My surgeon used dermabond, a sort of glue. If yours used glue you could be allergic to it. If not, I dont have any ideas. A benadryl should help, no matter what it is you are allergic to.

    6 days post op

I was the same way for a few days post op, but has mostly improved. My doc said was from swelling in new tummy and should improve as the swelling goes down.
  12. Had my 2 week post op yesterday. She told me I could have canned tuna or canned chicken, or the insides of a baked potato or a sweet potato.

i think this is a bad thing

I ate a few Ritz crackers the other day. They disolve into mush before you swallow them. My doctor said a few were fine. They were delicious. salty and crunchy.

I am in Virginia, so though we have not had quite the quantity of snow, it is still sleety and nasty. Made homemade vegetable Soup yesterday. I am not to whole food yet, but pureed mine. After pre-op diet and then 2 weeks of liquids, it was wonderful. Having it again for lunch today. B - Protein shake L - pureed vege soup D - not sure yet S- Protein Shake lots of Water and crystal light. Thinking of making some spiced tea with crystal light and sugar free, for hot spiced tea. Yumm.
  15. Those are some pretty big NSV's for only 2 weeks out. That is great. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
  16. I was sleeved on 01/17 and I think I am only up to about 48 oz fluids. Glad everything went so well Sheila.

Is anyone having problems with bowel movement?

I started to ask this same question, but I am 10 days post op and thus on liquids. Not sure if even Miralax will help at this point.
  18. My surgery is in three days. I am soooo nervous. I have had surgeries before and have never really been very nervous before. I am so scared and I don't know why. I know that I will be at the hospital for 2 nights (all other surgeries have been outpatient) so that should make me feel better. I am liking the idea of the pain pump, but I am still just scared *&$less
  19. You can make a sugar free banana pudding. Get the low fat vanilla wafers (they will be soggy anyway from the pudding, sugar free vanilla pudding, bananas and low fat cool whip. I have been making it that way for years and my hubby loves it.
  20. Welcome. You have found the right place. I hope that everything falls right into place for you. There is a ton on information on here and if you ever have a question, just ask - these ladies (and men) have lots of answers from experience.

    laser skin tightening

Sounds great. $3000, is nothing to sneeze at, but is still much cheaper and sounds much less invasive than plastic surgery. I can't wait to hear how it works for your.
  22. Ibejjo - we were sleeved the same day. Yes Monday and Tuesday were awful. Started feeling pretty good by Thursday. Today, though not normal, I feel ok. I had horrible nausea also. My surgeon says that is from all the swelling in your tummy and the liquids not really passing through well at first, but that when the swelling goes down the nausea usually goes away. Mine does seem much improved yesterday and today. I only took Zofran twice yesterday and non so far today. Congrats on starting on the losers bench. I am happy to be joining you there.
  23. Don't be scared. Just make sure you have done enough research so that you are totally sold on the idea. The VSG is a wonderful tool. The men and women on here have had wonderful results after surgery. I just had mine this week, so I have made any progress yet, but really look forward to it. I can tell you the whole surgery process and the first few days afterwards have not been nearly as bad as I had myself worked up for it to be. I was sore and could not really drink or get anything down the first 2 days after surgery, but now it is much better.

I got approved today from Cigna :-)

Congrats. I have Cigna also and I felt the same way while jumping through their hoops. Once my packet was sent from my surgeon to them it only took about 3 days to get the approval. I had my surgery this past MOnday, came home yesterday and today a lady from Cigna called to check on me.
  25. Wow. I understand the wanting to get the diabetes symptoms to go away, but when your BMI is only 24 to start with, that is a huge risk to take.
