    August Rush in bandland!

I was at the grocery store yesterday, and ice cream was on sale. I stared longingly at it. Would turn the carton over to look at the fat, carb, and calorie counts to see if I could justify myself in getting it. I stood there for 5 minutes, and I'm sure that people wondered why the fat woman wouldn't just go ahead and grab some. Then I remembered....I DON'T LIKE ICE CREAM. I shut the door, and I pushed my cart to the checkout. Didn't want those 45 minutes on the treadmill to go to waste.

3 days post op. Struggling to eat!

I was the exact same way. I had a hard time "eating" for over a week. I didn't start to feel better until I was able to up the amount of protein.

I can eat tortillas, but you can forget the bread. It isn't happening since my fill.

    August Rush in bandland!

Since having my fill, I've already noticed foods that are hard to eat. Chicken, Beef, and bread. Bread I can't eat no matter how small the bite. Chicken and beef have to be extra tiny, and I mean teeny tiny. We went out to eat with my parents, and I kept apologizing for taking so long to eat. I felt so bad about taking so long, that I finally quit eating. The good thing though is that the table is usually cleaned off before I'm done eating.
  5. I'm watching what I eat, and just making better choices. I know I could lose the weight quicker if I low carb it, but I don't want to. Eventually that is going to get old. If I had wanted to do that, I wouldn't have had this done.
  6. Mine is on the left side halfway between my rib and belly button.

I either drink a shake or eat an Activa yogurt. I'm not a big breakfast eater.

    Gained a pound.... sigh - week 4

I did the exact same thing when I started back on solids. Wish I would have known that would happen because I was stressed and disappointed in myself. ETA - Went to a support group meeting, and I was told that when you start on solids that you will usually gain a few pounds.

Another thing, I don't know how your doctor is, but mine said NO SOLIDS before your fill. If you have eaten, they will not fill your band.

I had my first fill on Monday of last week. It is not any thing bad. They did mine under the fluroscope (?). It was really cool watching them do it. The surgeon found the port in one try. The worst part of the entire process is the needle going in. It is a big needle, and it isn't near as bad as getting an epidural. Once the needle was in the port, they moved the machine up. That way he could see the actual band. The nurse gave me some barium, and I took 3 sips. From what I could tell, he filled the band first. Then he took out saline until the barium went through the band. That was how they can tell your at your max for your first fill. The entire process took less than a minute.

    August Rush in bandland!

Today has been the first day that I have noticed the weight loss, and I was so excited. I was getting ready for church, and I noticed it in the way my clothes fit. They are huge on me. I have 2 pairs of shorts that fall off when I walk in them, so they will now be regulated to my Goodwill pile. How is everybody feeling? Also had some people at church ask me how much weight I have lost. That made me feel great.

I craved pickles like crazy too. I started drinking pickle juice, and that helped. When I got to the mushy stage, I ate the inside of the pickle. It is nice and soft.

My doctor isn't strict with liquids, but I can't use a treadmill for 4 weeks. I'm basically allowed to walk and ride the bike. Any idea when you can start doing sit-ups?

    August Rush in bandland!

Today I can start eating any thing that I can tolerate. This scares me. I had another bandster tell me that I should be afraid of or at least have a healthy respect for food. That I will be careful with what I eat. I hope she is right. She has been banded for over 3 years, and she looks amazing. She said that she still has a fear of food. I ate half of a Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie this morning at 430 when I got up with one of the girls to get them a drink. I'm irritated with myself because I wasn't even hungry. It was habit. The snack was sitting on the counter.

    Water question?

Mine said the 30/30 also. They also told us that if you have to have something to sip on during a meal, fill a cup with ice and drink the water that melts.
  17. I only got sick once when I tried to drink to much Water. I learned my lesson quickly. They make a compounded promethazine that you rub on your wrist. Ask your doctor for that. It is wonderful, and my surgeon keeps us supplied with it just in case a stomach bug happens to go through the house.

I gained weight when I started on mushies. Found out that it is common. From what I have been told at a support group meeting is that your weight will go up and down during the first few weeks after surgery, and don't get discouraged by it.

I get gassy after I eat. I try to remember to take a gas-x before or right after I eat.
  20. Mine was 2 weeks of Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch, yogurt, cottage cheese, and sf popsicles, and then Soup for supper. I also noticed that my body stopped craving sugar and greasy foods during that 2 weeks.

    August rush 2010!!!

Good luck to all of you that are being banded this week. I'm loving my band. Love it! Love it! Love it! I did wonder what in the world I had done to myself the first couple of days, but I'm so glad that I had it done.

    August Rush in bandland!

Had my first fill today. That was a riot. It was really cool watching them do it. I was told that I had somewhere between 3-4 cc of saline put in my band. Had a hard time swallowing at first, but it got easier. Go back on Sept. 21 for my second fill. I can start eating whatever I want on Thursday. Have to do liquids today, pureed tomorrow, soft foods on Wednesday, and whatever I can tolerate on Thursday. Lost 4 pounds since my post-op visit, and I was told that was great. I wasn't thrilled with it, but found out that when you start introducing solids back into your diet, that you can expect to gain a few pounds. Saw a lady that had come in for an unfill, and in 5 months had lost 70 pounds. She looked fantastic. She said that she went from a size 22 to a size 6. Talk about motivation. I know for a fact that I can do this. Hope everybody is doing good.
  23. That is interesting because that wasn't what I had typed. It is the correct website though.
  24. You get them from Graphical Tickers and Trackers: Weight Loss, Trying To Conceive, Pregnancy.... I'm stalled right now too. Well, I actually gained 2 pounds. I started tracking my food intake, and I was only getting between 500 - 600 per day. I have bumped it up to 800-1000 calories, and the 2 pounds have gone away. It is still very frustrating.
