  1. Let's keep each other posted & see how we do with our next fills. We each have different reasons for choosing the Lap Band. Some could lose the weight but not keep it off while others struggled wth food choices on a daily basis & need the restriction factor to minimize intake altogether. So no matter your starting point on this journey we are on the same road now & want to cross the same finish line. Sometimes just posting my struggles on this forum & reading the feedback gives me the motivation & kick starts my will power into full speed. I dont feel alone here. Looking forward to hearing from all of you during both the struggle & victory's.

    What are you craving???

Iv'e had a bad craving all week for Yellow cupcakes w/chocolate frosting or b-day cake w/icecream. Was at my sisters last weekend for my nephews b-day & not only was there B-B-Q & all the sides but cakes, icecream etc. I did not have any. I picture myself eating some when I am thin and enjoying it even more.
  3. I was banded on July 19th. I had my 1st fill on Aug 31st. Dr put in 4.5cc during surgery & a little over 1.5cc on Aug 31st. Soooo total a little over 6cc in a 10cc band. I have no restriction. I have lost total 20lbs in 7 wks but 10 was from 1st wk of liquids. Im on pure will power and struggle everyday to make the right choices. I feel hungry all the time but take it day by day & make healthy food choices & exercise regularly. I dont now how much will power I have left. I have been craving cake, icecream...all the bad stuff but so far have not given in. My next fill is Sept 30th & sooooo hoping to get some sort or restriction. Wishing all of you luck. It does sound like you both need another fill.

    Questions about labwork?

1 more thing. My pharmacist told me that most people need approx 4000 units daily not 1000. I was on 1000 after I finished the 3 mths of 50,000 units & my Vitamin D dropped once more. I am taking 4000 units daily per my Dr. & have maintained within range.

    Questions about labwork?

I also had less pain once I started taking them. Probably bcuz Vitamin D difeciency also prevents calcium absorbtion. So Not only did we start feeding our body Vitamin D but started absorbing calcium better.

  7. Hi Claudia,

Dr Martin's support group meets every 3rd Wed evening 7:00-9:00 Its at Huntington Hospital in WEST TOWER MEMORIAL Room 5. This will be my 1st one but hope you can make it. Hoping restriction kicks in soon cuz Im starving all the time. Today went to lunch ordered salmon wth veggies came w rice. Ate it all no problem. I get my next fill on the 30th I dont know what Im suppose to feel when I eat. obviously no restriction yet. have a great weekend :)

  8. Hi Claudia.

I got my 1st fill. I apparently had 4.5cc from surgery & I got a little over 1.5cc soa little over 6cc in a 10cc band. On soft foods today was starving after liquids for 2 days but feel no restriction. Maybe when I start to eat solid foods. Sun we BBQ & my sisteres. All kinds of munchies. I went swimming so I could burn some calories but I just got hungrier after swimming I did not eat bad but felt so guilty when I ate some chips w/guacamole & baked beans. I took my snacks (celery, carrot, etc.) but completely forgot about them. I really struggled but overall not to bad. I hate the struggle & feeling hungry. Are you going to the support group this month? How are you doing? How many cc's do you currently have? Do you feel any restriction? any difference at all? Let me know how your doing & hope you can go to support group meeting. Take care Isabel :)

    First fill today. Eeeharr!

I had my 1st fill yesterday which was 1.5cc & I already had 4.5cc from surgery which gave me no restriction. So I have 6cc in a 10cc band. I lost weight on my own will power. I have been really struggling since this past weekend. Had a wedding & a family BBQ. Im feeling good and know it can take anywhere around 3/5 fills b4 reaching sweet spot but hope this gives me enough to get me to my next fill in 1mth. Keep up the great work! Im just really happy I got the lap-band.

    First Vomit

Hi Rachel, Glad to hear from you. We all have our moments. I had a wedding & family BBQ this weekend & struggled. Not to bad at the wedding. I did have few sips of wine & bite of cupcake. SUNDAY my sisters makes the best pulled pork with all these yummy sides. I took carrots sticks, celery, jicama & hummus but forgot I even took it. Did not eat too bad but gave in to few chips wth guacamole & baked Beans. I swam most of the day but i felt horrible. I kinda slacked on my exercise this week also. I used to walk my dogs 2miles am & 2miles eve & go swimming 5 times a week. Well....I have not done the eve walks & swam 3 times this week. I need to kick start the cardio. You have done well. You have lost 19lbs since your surgery, thats awesome. You are averaging 2lbs a week which is how you should be losing. Stay positive. Take it one day at a time. Im going to start my evening walks again & you will start your daily walks again. I love to walk outdoors. It really makes me feel real good. It's the "feel good" endorphines working. sooooooo lets get started on our walks again together. As I always say. "we can do this together one day at a time" You are really doing a great job! Isabel

    First Vomit

Yay!!!! I got my 1st fill. I just found out I had 4.5cc put in at surgery & he added a little over 1.5cc today. That puts me just over 6cc in a 10cc band. When I took my sip of water I felt the difference. So liquids for 2 days then mushie foods 2 days & then SOLID foods which Im quite nervous. Ive lost 19lbs since 1wk b4 surgery & 1lb away from my Labor day challenge. Sooooo very happy  Had to share!

    Breakfast Problems

My Dr told me that most people have difficulty getting something down in the morning cuz the band stiffens overnight. He told me drinking some warm tea helps.
  15. Ebony~ Your doing great. I also tell myself if I lose 1 lb a week that's 52 lbs a year. I would be happy with that also. Im going for my 6 wk post-op & 1st fill tomorrow. I have not weighed myself at home so Im anxious & excited to get on the scale. I have increased my exercise & have been eating healthy. Yesterday I kinda went off diet but not to bad but that was my fault. I did not have lunch & went to my sisters to celebrate my nephews b-day & we were swimming and playing football and I was starving & was eating fast and wanted a little of everything. Today is a new day and I will let you know how it goes tomorrow. ***keep up the great work everbody*** We can do it 1 day at a time ******

"Should I Stay or Should I Go"?

I had to stay the night & at first was upset cuz I wanted to go home but was soooooo thankful to stay the night. I was treated like a queen. They not only gave me my meds on time but I had the morhine drip if I needed it. I could not sleep so they offered me something to help me sleep. I was nauseated & they would give me something that wld cut the nausea instantly. I also got heperin injection's in my belly to prevent blood clots (They did not hurt a bit) I had a catherter so no bathroom issues but I was going thru ice chips like they were going out of style & they kept my cup full 24/7 The nursing staff was the best. soooooo I would say stay :cursing: Best of luck & keep us posted
  17. Call your insurance co & have them give you a list of Dr.s that do psych evals but let me tell you that most insurance co's cover only for approx 2 hrs & some run about 4 hrs just the visit & not the time it takes to type up the report. The report is quite lenghty one also. You might get lucky & find a Dr that will take the insurance pmnt as payment in full like my Dr. Best of luck
  18. Hi Claudia, I dont know if you can read this but wanted to let you know they changed my appt from 9:00 to 10:30 tomorrow Tues. Hope you have a great week. I got thru this weekend. The wedding was no problem but yesterday at my sisters was hard. Cant wait to get some restriction tomorrow. TTUL!

  19. Good Morning Claudia,

Im glad you got that resolved. Glad we both got this resolved & now continue on our journey. I see him on Tues @ 9:30 am. I think I will get thru this weekend just fine. Cant wait to get my 1st fill. It has been a long 6 weeks. Ive been doing ok wth my eating but starting to struggle at night. Keep wanting to snack but stop myself so Im really hoping this fill will give me some restriction but most important keep me feeling full longer. Let me know what time your appt is at maybe we can connect. Have a great weekend. The weather will be really nice :)

  20. Welcome & congrats on your upcoming Lap-Band. This is a great place for info and support. Wish you the best & please keep us posted on your journey.
  21. Hi Claudia,

I did walk into the office today & I am staying with Dr Martin. I signed a release for my file and walked in over to Dr Lourie's office. I have my appt on tues for my 1st fill & im very excited. Glad to hear you are doing better. Ive been doing pretty good but cant wait for the fill. This heat has drained me and have not exercised much. This is going to be a challenging weekend. Have my cousin's wedding on Sat, then on Sun we are having a family get together B-B-Q for my newphews b-day. Have been able to stary away from temptation but cant avoid this weekend. Im feeling pretty strong. My mom & sisters are the only ones that know about the lap-band & I told them to keep me in check if I start to stray. Let me know the outcome when you call Dr Martins office. Your doing great! Keep up the good work. CHEW!!! CHEW!!! CHEW!! I know I need to practice slowing down. chat with you soon :)

    LapBand and chemo?

Jacqui~ I Know what your going through & I will be praying for you. As so many have said you have the will power, mental & physical strength to get you thru this. I was diagnosed with Follicular Non-Hodgkins lymphoma 5 yrs ago. After I had my Hysterectomy I found a lump in my groin & was diagnosed wth a small hernia. Dr's thought I started exercising to soon after surgery. I was quite healthy 145 lbs ate pretty much a vegetarian diet & was quite active. Had completed the LA marathon 2 yrs in a row when suddenly the rug was pulled from under my feet in an instant. I went in for Hernia repair surgery & was told upon waking it was not a hernia & they wld run a biopsy. To make an already long story short. My cancer is incurable, there is no treatment. Im a stage 3 & was told anywhere from 4 to 12 yrs life expectancy (12 being stage 1) I did the math & I had 1 huge panic attack that seemed like it lasted for months. Telling my family was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. I am a patient at City of Hope & have a great team of Dr's. My cancer is a slow growing cancer & was told I would most likely live a full long life. I get tested every 3 mths bcuz it can change to an aggressive cancer at any time. My faith, my family & friends support got me through this & you will get through this also. Listen to your body. Keep hydrated. Rest & eat healthy & nutrtious foods. High alkalien food (Greens), Cancer thrives on sugar. You will be in my prayers.
  23. Hi Ms C,

I called my insurance co & they could not verify Dr Lourie or Powell. Im stopping by the office tomorrow, Since they are right next door to each other I will speak to them both but looks like I will be staying with Dr Martin bcuz I know he is covered by my insurance. I will know more tomorrow & will keep you posted. Im getting my 1st fill next tues & am very excited. (have appt scheduled with both offices on same day just in case) Hope you are doing better. Take it 1 day at a time and dont get stressesd out. Stay cool in this heat. :)

  24. I had the same problem. I use benefiber unflavored also. I add it to my crystal light, plain water & protein drinks. It should do the trick.

    Advice needed!!

I was banded on Monday July 19th & went to my cousins wedding shower the following Sat. I was feeling really good but was easily ehausted bcuz was on clear liquid diet. I was only able to stay for about 2 hrs & that was pushing it. I was starting to feel faint after 1 1/2 hrs but pushed it a little to much. I was absolutely drained. Once I got home & rested I felt better. Hope all goes well for you. Get lots of rest when you get home from the hospital and drink all your liquids walk so you can get rid of the shoulder pain which will be due to gass. Wishing you the best
