  1. I agree with you 100 %. Thanks for the prayers, I will keep you posted. Have a beautiful weekend
  2. Hi Stars, Here is a step by step Ticker tutorial. Have fun!:smile2: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/
  3. Rachel~I also had my share of a variety of epidurals which were sooooo painful but they did not help me. I am very fortunate not to have any symptoms due to the cancer. Its a slow growing cancer(Follicular Non-Hodgkns Lymphoma) & most people live a full & healthy life with it. Thats why I agreed wth my team of Dr's to "Watch & Wait" I go get my yearly scan next week at City of Hope but feeling very positive. I was telling my friend that I feel soooo good. I am about 95% pain free. Im down to 1 pill at night but soon will no longer need it. Glad were going on this journey together & I know our fututre is getting healther & soon we will be pain free. The best of luck and lets keep each other posted. Blessings:)
  4. Hi Joyce. I was banded on July 19th I have not experienced the bad taste but I burp alot and I get the hiccups alot right after I sip some liquid or eat something. I chew my food really good but I am aware I was drinking liquid to fast. The burps sometimes catch me by surprise and are quite loud  I start to laugh everytime it happens. I told my neighbor that her 2 teenage boys have competition know. LOL! I hope this is just temporary. Best of luck!
  5. I was banded on July 19th and going thru this exact same thing. Its quite seldom when it happens but always catches me by surprise.:smile2: Maybe the port is settling in. I will ask my Dr on my next appt. Best of luck
  6. Klisa~ I would say more like the stubborness kicked in. It was the first year where one could put their names on their bib but I hated it expecially cuz I was in so much pain. I walked with a towel over my head cuz I did not want to deal with anything. People would be chanting your name and cheering you on & I regreted putting my name on my bib. Rachael~Congrats! on begining your journey. Im going to check out Livestrong.com site. I too have degenrative disk desease. I had back surgery in 1996 & 2005, cervical diskectomy wth fusion in '96,'98 & 2000. I gained my most weight right b4 my 1st surgery. I was in pain for about 7yrs and almost ended quadropalegic. Thats when I finally decided to have surgery and told myself If I come out walking I will train for a marathon. I lost 100lbs on Lindora. 50 b4 surgery & the rest after. I fractured my neck in 2000(fell in my drive way) I dont have 1 good vertebrae in my back cuz I was born with arthrities in my back. I kept the weight off for about 10 years then life surprised me once again. I was diagnosed with incurable cancer. I also have fibromyalgia & in constant pain. I went thru an emotional rollercoaster dealing with the cancer in term of diet. EAT high alkalein(fruits and veggies) no sugar. I went from eating extremely healty organic and everything raw then I broke down physically & emotionaly. With all the steroids and stress I gained 80 lbs and even though I ate healthy and exercised I kept gaining. I realized it was healthy but not balanced. I ate hardly any protein so I was only burning off the carbs I was eating and not the stored fat. I guess What I want to say with all this is your health can & will get better as your weight drops. As your weight drops you will become a more active & you will be amazed how good you feel and how much you can accomplish. Lets keep each other posted on our journeys. Love this site cuz I have met so many amazing and insppring people. Enjoy your journey
  7. I have a great shrink and I see him about 3/mth. We have been discussing Lap-band issues for about 10 mths. My emotional journey since getting banded on July 19th has also been more like revelations. I was at the market yesterday and found myself getting very emotional. It wasnt bcuz I felt I couldnt eat this or that anymore but I had a sense of control. I felt powerful over food (if that makes sense) I CHOSE not to buy something and not bcuz I couldnt have it but I didnt want to. I get my 1st fill on Aug 31st. Dont get me wrong, I dont have any restriction and I do get hungry but I feel sooooo lucky to have been able to get the lap-band. I waited for so long and I think all the prep work I did on my own, with my shrink. & with the help of everybody on this site helped me immensly. I take it day by day and enjoy each new day & the surprise of what can I do today that I have not been able to do in a long time due to my weight. Wishing everyone a beautiful and successful day:smile2:

Hi Tbones, Here is a step by step tutorial for the ticker. Hope it helps.
  9. I first looked into the lap-band Nov of last year and my BMI was 37 & I had no co-morbidities. Once again I tried WW and excercise. I started to get headaches and when I went to my primary Dr. My blood pressure was quite high but my weight was also +15lbs. Not only did I know meet the BMI of 40 but know I had High blood pressure. Your sooooooo close & 8 lbs are achievable. enjoy some delicious meals and drinks lots and lots of water b4 going to weigh in again. Im soooo happy with my Lap-Band. Had surgery july 19th and dont regret it and looking forward to my journey to the healtiher me. Best of luck and please keep us posted.
  10. Hi Claudia. Im sooo happy that you got your 1st fill. Ive known both Dr's for many years and Dr Lourie is really good also just that he did not take my insurance. I called the office today and they told me he know takes my insurance but Im calling them to verify. They also told me they dont know how to contact Dr Martin at this time. If all goes well and verifys with my insurance I will stay with Dr Lourie. Thanks so much for updating us. Yes, lets buddy up. Let me know how it goes with your 1st fill. I get mine on Aug 31st. Have a great weekend. Isabel
  11. Let's cyber run together! I did complete the marathon both times. The 1st time I trained for a good 6 mtns & was a piece of cake. Was not in pain during or after at all. The 2nd time totally different experience. I did not train to much & then I slipped 3 miles in but I was determined to finish. I walked the remainder of the 23.2 miles with leg cramps and I could not stop cuz the charlie horse wld kick in bad. I over hydrated and I finally stopped at 24 miles medical tent & was treated but I finished with ice packs wrapped around my calfs. 7 1/2 hrs. I was in pain for about 2 wks and had busted capillaries from my ankles to my knees. SOOO anyone planning on doing a marathon...TRAIN,TRAIN,TRAIN. It can be an awesome experience.
  12. Hello Ms C. I had surgery on July 16th by Dr. David Martin also. I saw him on July 27th and he told me that the practice was splitting up and he's actually at the same address but on the other side. He told me to call about 2 weeks b4 my next scheduled appt and verify and ask them for his new tel #. Dr Lourie is not covered by my insurance. Let me know what happens at your appt today. Im heading over to the office tomorrow & check out whats going on. Carol had also mentioned to me that the practice was splitting up and thats why your July 13th appt was cancelled. I was originally scheduled for surgery on the 14th and had it reshceduled for the 19th. Stay positive and Im sure things will work out for the both of us. Please Keep me posted and I will keep you posted.
  13. LOL! We have to laugh. The burps just come out with no warning. I laugh each time and still surprised each time it happens. I eat slow and chew my food really good but Ive heard it happens when one is full. I usaully start to burp or hiccup after about 30 min after eating & sometimes they surprise me some time after. Im hoping it eventually stops. That is 1 of my ? I will ask the Dr when I see him. In regards to fills, my Dr sez it does not hurt. Ive asked in the chat room and so far everyone sez its not painful. I guess we will see really soon. Starting my meditation classes next week & looking forward to some healing also. Great talking to you. Have a great weekend and rest up for work on Monday. :)

  14. Hi NCG, Congrats on the surgery & great weight loss. I had surgery on july 19th & my 1st fill is on Aug 31. Ive heard can take 3/5 fills b4 reaching ones "Sweet spot" My Dr told me not to concentrate to much on losing weight the 1st month. Its time to heal and that the weight will come off once I start getting fills but I also do not want to gain back what I have lost. I also feel full with 1/2 the amount I used to eat. Im not getting on the scale cuz do not want to dissapoint myself but I know Im losing cuz my clothes already is fitting loose. I would talk to your nutritionist cuz it would all depent on how much you weigh and what would be best for you. Keep up the good work and look forward to your updates. Isabel
  15. Hi Sandra. Thanks for the friendship request. This site has been such a blessing & excited on going thru this journey with everyone here. I somehow erased the msg you sent me. You mentioned you work in Arcadia ? Im just learning my way thru this site and must have erased it or just cant locate it. I would love to get together for lunch. Arcadia is about 20 min drive for me. Meeting some wonderful & inspiring people.

Your doing great! Love your blog. Have a beautiful & blessed day :) Isabel

  16. So good to hear from you my Band Twin. Congrats on the weight loss. :) My next Dr's appt is Aug 31st when I will get my 1st fill. I decided not to weigh myself due to no restriction & will weigh in at Dr's. My 1 week post-op weight loss was 10 lbs. Little over 2 weeks post-op & I am feeling really good. Ive been exercising and eathing healthy. I dont know about you but when I eat or drink I either get the hiccups or burp (excuse me!). I do not have a fill but I guess there is some amount of restriction due to the band being in place. Im sure you will be ready on Monday. Wishing you the best. Big hugs & blessings to you. Isabel

  17. I used to be a jogger also. Love to get lost in "The Zone" I did the L.A. Marathons 7 & 8 years ago. 1 of my goals is to complete it once again. Starting off slow. My exercise consists daily 3 mile walk with my dogs, Treadmill 30 min evening (also watch dvd & time sure goes by fast) I just started swimming at the gym yesterday:thumbup: but looking forward to starting weights so that I do not stay to flabby. Im sooo excited for all of us. Im really happy to be able to talk and share with all of you. :smile2:

    First Fill

I had surgery on July16th and I am scheduled for my 1st fill on Aug 31th. (6 weeks)
  19. Isa Bella

    Surgery was July 27

Congrats on your weight loss. I was banded on July 19th & had hiatal hernia repair also. I still experience gas pains in my shoulder occasionally. My Dr told me sometimes the port rubs against the diaphram and causes gas. I walk it off. That seems to be the quickest way to releive the pain. Wishing you continued success :blushing:
  20. let me add that I decided not to weigh myself at home. My Dr. told me the 1st mth to concentrate on healing and the weight will come off once I start getting the fills. That does not mean im not watching what im eating just dont want to discourage myself. Keep up the good work!
  21. Hi, I was banded on July 19th also. So glad to hear your doing so well. Im feeling good also. Just increased my walk to 3 miles yesterday and start swimming tomorrow. I seem to have my hunger under control also. Warm tea seems to curb the hunger if it starts to creep up. I get my 1st fill till Aug 31 (6 wks post-op) I take it 1 day at a time and enjoying the journey. I know I will have my challenging days especially since I have not had a fill yet but I will take it as a learning experience & not banster hell. Keep us posted on how you are doing would like to follow along with someone who has same banding date. Good luck & success to everyone recently banded.

  23. I was banded on July 19th. I starting feeling hungry on day 5. Went to my post-op yesterday & Dr told me I can add cream based soups. I get my 1st fill on August 31st. He told me the 1st month is all about the healing process not to concentrate to much on weight loss that will start after the fills. Hang in there and best of luck to everyone :cursing:

    Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?

I was banded on July 19th and went for my post-op visit yesterday. I told my Dr I was getting hungry and said I can have some cream based soups. I had some tomato basil soup (wrong choice) To acidic and gave me horrible heart burn. Scared me from trying somemore foods so know gonna take it slow. Greek yogurt was nice.

    nausea with movement

I was banded on July 19th. I do not have anymore nausea and can roll from 1 side to the other with no problem but I still get occasional gas pain in my shoulder/neck area w/ occasional hiccups. My Dr told me bcuz the port can put some pressure on the Diaphragm and cause the gas. Each day does get a little easier. :cursing:
