  1. Hello guys,

I would love to hear how everyone's first week was?!?!? Mine has been filled with a few bumps in the road, several stomach growlings (not all from hunger) many trips to the bathrom ;) and 7.3 lbs gone!!!! I know it's Water weight and big numbers come in the beginning but, i am still stoked. I'm also very concerned about Good Friday and Easter coming up. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE fried fish and we are going to a huge family dinner on Sunday? Any suggestions? I'll be moving to puree's at the end of the week. So enough about me. How has your 1st banded week gone and let me hear those numbers. Also, feel free to follow me on youtube under mrsa9206.

  2. We are tracking the same. Only I have had a case a diahrrea all day. Yuck! My belly is slowly going down, but I have no complaints here.

I was banded Tuesday and now that it is Sunday my stomach is finally retreating. I knew I was bloated, but I kept it to myself. I kept thinking dear Lord am I pregnant and did they miss the baby? Needless to say I had a few moments of the gas easing out last evening-no it was not violent and tummy is going down. I hope that this is not tmi, but I have had my firs b-movement since surgery this morning. I was not too worried about it because I was on Clear Liquids 10 days pre-op through to yesterday. The tightness around the repaired hernia is gone. I am so happy and blessed.

  3. Hi folks,

So, I was banded on the 12th of this month and am 5 days post op. Last night I had a fever into this afternoon. The fever has passed but I have had diahrrea all day. Is that common? I'm trying to take in more liquids to make up for the lost liquid. Should I take something for the diahrrea? I wanted to go to the store, but I can only get but so far from the bathroom and also, any recommendations for a sore booty?

  4. Hi guys,

I'm still pre-op but have been doing lots of youtubing to check out how others are doing with their lap band. I came across a wonderful channel its Anume1109. Check it out when you get a chance. She has lots of WLS recipes. One of the things that she has on there is Trader Joe's Peanut Flour. I just didi a comparison in my cabinet and regular Peanut Butter has 16g of fat and 7g of Protein and the peanut flour has 4 grams of fat and 16 grams of Protein. She mixes it with greek yogurt and agave nectar and it's a whoping 32 grams of protein for breakfast. Just wanted to share that.

Found Anume1109 also and she is my fav vlogger, she is so well spoken, totally accountable and not whiney like some. I was banded 4/11/11, in clear liquid stage and sooooo ready for full liquids. Enjoying your posts

  6. i was banded on the 12th also. my stomach is so swollen. i look like i'm 6 months pregnant. i can't wait for it to go down. i don't have any gas at all (thank the Lord) but my stomach is so bloated. i called the nurse about it and she said it was normal and will be a few days before it goes down. no regrets though and thankful i did this.

  7. I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!! April 12th is my date. Counting down the days and planning for the journey! Let's all stick together regarding updates. I can't wait to get on the other side. Here's something funny, alot of ladies on youtube name their band. I've been trying to think of a name for mine. What do you think?? Let's name our bands people....

  8. Hi there,

I had similar questions. The research that I did was both on here and youtube. Also, check out the lap band site and the realize site. The only difference I saw was that the lap bands inner piece is sections and the realize is one continuous "balloon". I asked my surgeon and he said that he uses both, but has been doing more with the realize. I know that the realize patients i saw got fills more frequently. i decided to go with the realize band. hope that helps.

    Hi everyone!

I am new to the site. I recently got approved for the lapband by my insurance company and am awaiting my surgery date. When visiting my doctor, he asked me which band I preferred, the Realize or the Lapband. I wanted to know if any of you know the difference?

I have more questions but I figured I would start with this one and see how the responses come before I ask anymore.

    Thanks.

  9. i know, my daughter was looking at me like i was crazy. i am going on a mad hunt for some smaller plates and bowls. it's sad to say but nowadays a lot of the dinnerware is so large to accomodate the large portions we've become accustomed to. i'm going to check the thrift stores first. i don't think they will let me keep using their stuff. 2 year olds are so tempermental...lol!!!

Oooooo, that's a good one! I have toddlers, so I have the bowls and spoons to use...I'm going to have to try that...that is if they let me..lol..

  10. It's so funny you posted this this morning. At this moment I am eating oatmeal and slithered almonds out of my kids bowl, using one of their spoons. I had it in mind today to use these utensils more often.

Thanks for the post! We are right on point!

What are you eating this morning? Are you preparing youself for life after your band?

I'm just having a Carnation instant breakfast (vanilla, altho I like the SFchocolate better) and some fruit...trying to get ready for my (non required) pre op diet.

Those on pre op diet, feel free to post what you're eating (drinking) too! Give us some good ideas!

  11. Take a deep breath and remember: once YOU are banded and your weight is falling like autum leaves, you have have a whole new perspective. You will also be a lot calmer because you will know the TRUTH from first hand experience and you will calmly set them straight.

Don't let them get to you, just consider the source. There are so many people that don't have complications (like myself) and are happy and living a much healthier life because of the band. Concentrate on preparing yourself for your upcoming new life. It's going to be great!

    All the best to you!

Thank you so much for your kind words. They help so much. I can totally relate to where she was coming. I just get tired of hearing about the "they said" or "someone heard" stories. They drive me nuts.

  12. i didn't share with her that i was getting banded soon. only a few people know. but i'm going to hang in there and do what's best for me. Thank you for your kind words.

I was really reluctant to tell my thin friends about my plan to have the surgery for this exact reason, but guess what? They both knew of people who had had it with WONDERFUL results... such a pleasant surprise!! Hang in there! We're doing what's right for us. Maybe they are jealous?

  13. I get so irritated when the topic of WLS comes up and someone blurts out about "someone" they know or they "heard" that someone had some horror story about the band. I was having a conversation with someone who clearly needs some weight loss intervention and she kept going on and on being negative about WLS. I kept my cool but it was hard. I am aware of the risks involved with having surgery but those isolated horror stories are not the norm. Sorry i'm so bitter it just makes me mad!!!

  15. Hi everyone,

I'm still pre-op but have been addicted to youtube lap band journeys. I've been trying several WLS recipes on there. I came accross something from a channel i just can't get enough of it's Anume1109. Check it out! She uses Trader Joe's Peanut Flour for added Protein. It's delicous! It's just dehydrated peanuts. I just did a comparison in my cabinet and regular Peanut Butter is 16g of fat and 7 grams of protein and the Trader Joe's Peanut Flour is 4g of fat and 16grams of protein. Hope this helps!

  16. Last night I had this sudden realization- I only have ONE pair of jeans that fit me even closely and they are still a little big and leave me with a saggy butt but I don't go out much so I wear em anyway.

Well, I start college next week. EEK. I'm gonna need some new pants before then. I don't want to wear the same pair to class every day but at the same time I don't want to spend much on new ones and I'm really broke after paying my tuition:( Sigh.

Our thrift stores here suck. I've been there several times but rarely find anything. Who makes a good fitting but cheaper jean?

do you have any girlfriends that you can get clothes from? if not, Walmart and target are great places to look. the clearance rack is always packed with good deals. i am not banded yet but have already started gathering clothes from girlfriends. they are more than willing to clean out their closets. oh, another place is ross. that's my favorite store.
