  1. Hi Friends, I had my surgery 11 days ago and have noticed on two occasions (after drinking too much Protein shake) a crazy wave a nausea - almost to the point where I feel like I'm going to pass out, kind of like having the flu. In both instances it seemed to subside in about 10-20 minutes, but maaaaaan! I just want to check in and see if others have experienced this. Each time was immediately after a "meal" where I consumed an entire Protein shake (rather than half at a time). thanks!
  2. I can hardly believe it! (Actually, I've kept myself so busy, I haven't given myself time TO think about it). But tomorrow I'll be hopping on a plane to San Diego, crossing the border and having most of my stomach removed by Dr. Rodriguez. Oh -- and that pesky band removed too! Can't wait to see what happens next! Thank you all for taking the time to answer my questions to get me to this place. -K

    Tomorrow it's MY Turn

Hi Friends! I'm back and feeling pretty darn good! All things went well during my revision surgery and I am back from Mexico - safe, sound and sleeved! Woohoo! That first hour after surgery was a little rough - throwing up blood, feeling generally icky and wondering what the hell I'd done to myself. But that all cleared up pretty quickly. Already down 6 lbs just 5 days after surgery, so that made me feel good :-) Thank you all for the continued kind words of support. We are SLEEVER SISTERS now! Wooohooody-hoooo!

    Count Down is on...

Hey, I'm getting sleeved on Tuesday as well! We'll be sleeve sisters!
  5. Oh no, you're not the only one. I was banded in January and have lost just over 15 lbs. I am supposed to have 10.2 in my band, but actually only have 8.8. So either I have a leak or . . . I just had an upper GI and everything looks great! It just isn't working for me. I'm either PB-ing all of my food, or everything is sliding right down. Not what I was hoping for. And guess what? I'm getting a revision on Tuesday the 19th. I'm tired of this thing! I thought I was crazy for even considering it when I first started investigating in June, but the more I researched, the more I just want this damn band out!

    Getting so scared

I'm right there with you. My revision is in 14 days - god I can't believe it! I am freaking out and having second thoughts just like I did with my band: maybe I can do it on my own, maybe I should just buy an elliptical trainer, maybe . . . But I know this will be a good thing.

    Worldwide Sport?

I really like these for taste, Protein content and portability. i'm assuming these would work once you get to full liquids. Protein shake Frosty chocolate by Worldwide Sport - WP-1070 - at The Vitamin Shoppe Any input on the quality of protein, et?

    Why do People NOT Lose?

Just wondering. I'm so afraid that my sleeve experience will be similar to my band experience (read: no weight loss). I want to ensure that I do everything I can to lose.
  10. I know that many years ago, there was talk about getting your stomach stapled. Is the sleeve the same thing? Or is getting your stomach stapled like having a tummy tuck?

Is the Sleeve the Same as Stomach Stapling?

I was thinking that that was an outdated procedure, but just thought I'd ask. (I guess I could have googled it)
  12. To say I'm excited is an understatement! I'm finally getting this damn band out. I've only had it in for 8 months, but it has been no fun for me at all. Thanks to everyone for all of your assistance as I researched and researched within these forums. I think I've read every single post on this site. I'm feeling really good about my decision. Anyone else having surgery at the same time?

I've booked my date! Oct 19, 2010 Dr Rodriguez

Thanks for good lucks! I'll take all I can get. I am getting my surgery in TJ. I'm not sure that if I would have learned about the sleeve first that I would have selected the sleeve over the band. I really liked the non-invasiveness of the band and the non-permanence. Looking back, I have no idea what I was thinking. Why wouldn't I want this to be permanent? And gosh, with the band, there is this annoying thing that you have to contend with every time you eat - ugh! So glad to be moving forward toward my sleeve.

    Juarez?? Confused??Scared??

I'm scheduled with Dr. Rod in TJ on the 19th. I've been researching doctors for quite some time and am feeling very confident in my decision. My BMI is about 32 and I would LOVE to lose 40 lbs. My fear is that I won't lose any. (I'm a band to sleeve revision and my band has not been kind to me).

Big Fight with my Personal Trainer

It's super important to work maintaining muscle mass for WLS patients, and for all "dieters". Take a look at Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. It's all about losing fat while maintaining muscle. It is difficult to have more than one goal at a time. You can focus on building muscle (eating lots of Protein and lifting heavy weights for muscle failure), you can work on building your endurance (long exercise sessions, marathon training, swimming, high reps lots of constant fueling of the body) or you can focus on fat loss (low calories in, burn more calories than you take in, maintain muscle mass). Focus has always been difficult for me.

    Biggest Loser last night

I watched the BL and I think the girl that got sent home this week was the girl that had the surgery when she was 14. I thought that giving a 14 year old such a drastic surgery was a bit harsh, but that's the same mom that had the chocolate out after the daughter had asked her to get it out of the house.

    difference between mushy and soft?

Hmmm. Good info on the Protein powders for clear stage. I always mix my chocolate protein powder with milk and ice in the blender because that's what it says to do on the directions. I tried it once with milk and was like, "wow, that is some good stuff!". So . . . any protein powder mixed with Water should be fine for the clear stage? And protein bullets should be fine as well? Thanks. Not sure why, but this is confusing for me for some reason.
  19. I'm still pre-op and (clearly) I really enjoy eating. I'm afraid I won't be able to enjoy food again. I like to say I "eat for sport", although my lap band has already eliminated the fun in that, for sure. Good to know I'm not alone in my fears.

    difference between mushy and soft?

So does this mean that flavored protein powders mixed with water are OK for the clear stage? Is this pretty typical?
  21. I don't know where else to put it. can someone please tell me how to get my picture to post next to my postings? I can't find anything that tells me how to do this, and I like to think that I'm a pretty tech savvy person. Thanks, K
