  1. Woaaaah! Fanny so glad you were in control and could get your car away from that darned concrete! So glad you're ok! *hugs*'

LJM - tell DH to NOT do his last run. It won't make that much difference anyway if he's been training for 8-12 weeks. Tell him to go see a physio and get some deep tissue massage (or better yet my beloved dry needling acupuncture, if he can). A friend of mine was in a similar situation when she ran a full marathon earlier this year - thought she was getting shin splints 2 runs out from the race. She didn't run her last 2 runs but felt great on the day and was injury free. Tell him it was me who said all of this too, cos if course he'll listen to me hehe

  2. Look people. Some things, like the concept of "romantic love" and "gravity" are debatable. Some things are not debatable. The fact that Anchorman is indeed the best movie of all time is not debatable.

I have to admit, I'm with you on this one Plain!

  3. We're not picking on the thread at all SMS, I think it has great potential to be a lot of fun if people post with the intended "fun-ness". But if a newbie reads it, I don't want to be part of them getting incorrect information about banding, their Dr's orders and the commitment needed from them....people are very impressionable and to be honest, some will take anyone's word as gospel when they read it here. The truth is a valuable asset in the banding process.

  4. I was supposed to diet for one week prior to my surgery, but I went on vacation instead and ate anything I wanted to. Then the day before my surgery, I fasted and ate nothing. It made little difference in the surgery outcome. I think they tell everyone to diet before surgery to lessen the fatty tissue around the stomach, and to prepare you for less eating ahead of time, but it doesn't matter.

I think my surgeon who went to university for MANY years and is a leading bariatric surgeon in Australia (where banding has happened for many years longer than some other countries, the US included) would beg to differ with your "it doesn't matter" comment. The reason for a pre op diet is to reduce the fat around your liver which lies above the stomach when you lay down. Obese people tend to lose weight from around their internal organs before they lose it visibly externally. Hence why you can lose A LOT of weight on a pre op diet and not notice it on the outside. My surgeon would have sewn me back up on the spot if my liver was too big to move to get to my stomach when he cut me open, and has been known to do that where it has been required on patients who have obviously disobeyed the pre op diet requirements and still have a fatty liver like you did. Moving it in surgery can pose a number of risks if its not less fatty.

I think what you have said DOESN'T MATTER because you don't have your facts right.

  5. i want to smack the crap out of stupid people who say stuff they dont know a damn thing about ...

    Whoooooooo?

yup, LOTS of baby shopping ... his early wardrobe is about 85% complete - - i initially said 95, but hey, who cant use more clothes?? we went to the outlet in Allen ... holy crap i could spend a fortune there. we bought him his first pair of Cons ... size 1, they are about as long as my pinky!!

  7. Susan, your post could have been written by me. I've been up and down the last 20 -30 pounds a couple of times. I come good for a few months get them off and then go off the rails again (like now) and eat crap and skip the gym for weeks on end (I always tell myself I'll go back tomorrow, but there is always another tomorrow isn't there). After my slip earlier this year I gained a heap of weight and worked hard with no fill to not gain more. I am at an ok fill level now, but I still eat more than I would like, and I have put on about 5 pounds so far. My clothes are getting snug too. I still want to get this last 20 pounds off somehow, but I guess in the back of my mind I wonder after 2 years with my band if maybe my body is just supposed to be 70 kilos rather than the 60 I dream of. I just can't seem to get it off and I still feel fatter than I'd like to be most days. This band IS only a tool and sometimes we aren't going to be the perfect bandster. But one thing I did learn from my slip/unfill situation is that when we decide to get back on the horse again the band is there for us to use. Thats the magic of the band. Give yourself space to be imperfect sometimes. You've come so far and recognising that things aren't how you want them to be is the first step. You'll figure out the path that will work for you, and we're all here in the meantime to support and encourage you *hugs*

  8. Yes, well, living vicariously through celebrities offers a sort of "glamourous life" by proxy. Escapism is healthy to a point as it offers a good opportunity to de-stress.

Prescription: Live the "Britney Spears" experience. Load up on psychotropic medicines and Red Bull, shave your head, and forgo underwear of any kind. Repeat as needed.

How many times to I have to repeat Dr Plain (normally in the privacy of your consulting rooms, but hey, we're all friends) that psyhcotropic meds and red bull aren't going to work. That is my reality now, sheesh!

The hair on the other hand, when you get compared to rapunzel, then its not going anywhere , trust me....and the underwear - I'm too classy for that!

  9. Oh sure, now SHE gets all the attention. Did you hear me complain about not being the center of your world? Did you hear me whine? NOOOOO....but nothing for Tap. Good ol' Tap. Good old ignorable Tap. (um...is ignorable a word?) It is now.

Beg for it....I hear that works..... LOL

We need more intelligent men around here....should that be so hard??

  10. I have to say that I feel blessed to have such a wonderful set of women come into my life (even by computer). You all are an inspiration. It is wonderful to know that when/if the time ever comes, I know where I can get words of wisdom, strength, and courage. You are a great bunch.

I wanted to echo this! And say happy thanksgiving (we had pizza and Pasta and too much wine and cognac)....happy days!

But, I wanted to ask this....Plain, why do I never make any of your multi quotes any more???? HUH???? Are we done? We're not friends anymore? Or my opinion sucks?? Is our bandland relationship done? *wonders* :grouphug:

  11. Ha I had this extended conversation at work the other day....if we are picking a lesser of 2 evils, Jennifer Aniston is my gal....... Ange is hot though...
