  1. The short answer is: NO (I'm going on all the information you have provided in your post). The long answer is: PLEASE ask your Dr. There are reasons why we are put on a post op diet. This period for healing and the more liquid the food you eat the less "work" your stomach has to do to digest it. Liquid is much more easily digested by your stomach than mushies/purees and they are much easier than solids, hence why you progress through the stages while you are healing. Different Dr's have different post op diet requirements. Other people might respond and say its ok by their Dr's rules. But you need to follow the rules of YOUR Dr and seek his/her advice on this. That is the best way to deal with this. Tell them everything you wrote here and they will be able to guide you. Good luck!

    Sexism Rules!

Great story Leslie! A similar thing happened to me Friday last week. At my work on Fridays we have "casual day" which means we can wear jeans and less dressing stuff if we are staying in the office and don't have to met with clients. I was wearing a pair of tight black skinny jeans, a black tank top with a floaty sort of top over it and really high black stilettos. I felt pretty hot if I do say so myself..... by the way it was only the end of my 4th week working there. Later in the afternoon a few of us were talking about what we were doing on the weekend etc etc and a man who reminds me A LOT of my Dad (in his mannerisms not looks) said in general conversation to me "Oh and I really like your outfit today". I thought it was sweet, not creepy at all and said thank you. Hey, even men close to 60 have a heart beat and eyes, they're allowed to look right? I was flattered!! Whats the point of being all PC and stuffy I say? We should all live a little and loosen up! Life'll be a lot more enjoyable that way! Good on you Leslie for letting it be something positive!!

    Australian Bandsters Chat Thread

The absolute best thing to do is ask your Band Dr what THEY think about you drinking coffee. My Doc has no problem with it (as long as you are drinking lots of Water too so you don't get dehydrated). In fact my Doc has no problem with drinking soft drink/soda either. He actually recommends keeping some low/no sugar soft drink in the house in case you get stuck cos the bubbles in it can release a blockage (they can for me, I've tried it). Admittedly I don't drink it often, but I may have one every now and then. But what I am saying is that YOUR Dr might forbid you from having carbonated beverages, these are the things you should be asking them directly. Also, most Aussie Docs recommend quite different things to most American Docs. We typically don't do the whole Protein first, then veggies, then carbs thing. I've been on this board for almost 2 years and all the Aussies I've had contact with have had the same eating recommended as I have - eat a healthy well balanced diet and with everything in moderation and exercise regularly. For most people, there is no use putting yourself on a strict "diet" with the band and trying to cut out a lot of things that you were eating pre-band (some you will have to cut out because you won't be able to eat them - like bread for me, it comes straight back up every time - you'll learn which foods won't work for you by trial and error!). If you could do that and have that will power why couldn't you just lose and KEEP OFF that weight alone? To my Doc, that's not what the band is about. Its hard to break a life time of habits for MOST people, so why force yourself onto a diet where you feel like you are only living half a life because you are SO confined by the diet you are on? Again, I can't stress enough that exercise will be something that makes the difference between being successful and being REALLY successful with your band (I know a couple of other Aussies Jachut and Chickie will second and third that). Of course this is just my (and my Dr's) opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. While most people on this board are helpful and sincere nothing beats speaking to a professional - your Dr - for guidance on how you can achieve the best results you can. They should be able to provide you with a comprehensive do's and don'ts handbook or may have a consultant you can speak to about any problems or questions you might have. Take advantage of that support if it is available, because that along with the support you receive here will be invaluable. Good luck to those of you just beginning your journey. I'll tell you, its not always been easy, but my band is still a blessing for me almost 2 years down the track. I'm thankful for it every day :crying:

Those poor parents being blamed if they are innocent...All I mean is, if the evidence is conclusive, why not arrest her?? *goes to google this to read more* PS. anyone's husband gain what you lost?

My husband has easily put on 60-70 pounds in the last year or so. It bothers him a lot and we know that there are a few contributing factors - 1. he eats my leftovers most of the time (or goes back fro seconds if there is any) 2. He eats large meals (larger than before I was pre band) 3. He works a job that he can't take lunch from home to and eats a bought lunch every day (he eats a lot of fried chicken a fries). 4. His work is stressful and he works shift work. We're working on trying to find him a new job so he's not so tired all the time, has energy to exercise and can start eating better. I think you need to talk to him about your concerns and help him realise that you wanted for both of you to be healthy. Maybe there are underlying issues that he's not really thought about or not aware of. I think with this one, communication and support are the key, just keep it loving and choose your words carefully. Good luck!

    Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey

So glad to hear your back on the horse again Brandy! Having gone through the whole slip/unfill thing myself earlier this year, trust me when I say that you WILL lose this weight again. I know you're a determined and driven woman and you won't let something like a slipped band backtrack you for too long. It won't take long to get it off either. I'm half way to losing the weight I put on. I was miserable and disgusted in myself as I put almost 20 pounds on but on but just had no control over it, I was hungry and could A LOT. The fill will give you that portion control that you need. (I know you know all this, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone!!!) *hugs*

Hundreds of thousands of Aussie men would cry if they read "footy" and "cute" in the same sentence! :tt2:

I'm a 3 hour drive from Sydney. I really love it there, but I'm a small(er) city girl and Sydney can be overwhelming at the best of times so I don't think I could live there. My husband is VERY unAmerican then too. He hates baseball and football as much as I hate footy and cricket. We're a good match in that respect!

Footy here is AFL (Aussie Rules) or NRL (Rugby League) or there is also Rugby Union. Its probably unAustralian of me to say, but I can't stand any of them....the whole idea of spending a couple of hours watching big boofhead men tackle each other and run after an egg shaped ball just doesn't do it for me. Maybe hillbilly was the wrong comparison then! Your redneck is comparable to what we call a bogan here (minus the gun, of course!). And there is a big difference between a bogan and an ocker. My little brother is in Sydney too and is as ocker as they come, he's a sweetheart though. If you really want to pay some one out, call them a bogan, that'll go straight to the heart haha. My hubby is from Chicago and he thinks our slang words are hilarious! Luluc, Sydney for new years will be great, you'll love it. Its an amazing city, I'm headed there next weekend myself actually.

Wow where is your Aussie from that he actually uses cobber?! Thats kind of cute! An ocker is what you guys would compare to a hillbilly I guess....not necessarily a bad thing, but a really stereotypical Aussie, uses all the slang, has a really strong accent, drinks beer out of a can while cooking a BBQ for his mates when they are watching the footy etc. Think of a modern day crocodile dundee....like this Ooooh I'd like me some cobbler, please.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing Susan! haha Good work Luluc! Ok so now you have to tell me what a cobbLer is? Food of some kind I'm guessing seeing its "yum" (and I'm too lazy to google and find out myself).

Wow, cobber is a really ocker Aussie phrase. I'd never use it myself. But its slang for friend or mate I guess. Did some one use it somewhere?

You could share it with me LJM! So my DH just inhaled an entire burrito in the time it took me to have 2 mouthfuls. I guess I used to eat like that too....ugh.

BBK, I gained over 20 pounds when I was unfilled. I was absolutely disgusted and mortified so I know EXACTLY how you are feeling right now.....BUT I've lost almost 5 of it already in 2 weeks of being back on my game and with a decent fill level. You'll be surprised how quickly you will be able to lose it when you have your band working with you again. If I can lose it, then you most certainly can too!! *hugs*

I kinda hate the "The Gabriel Method" one I get every time I log on (Weightloss Diet Free Lose Weight Story at The Gabriel Method). Its an Aussie site. It claims you can lose weight by "turning off the fat switch". Damn, if only I'd found my fat switch before I went ahead and had surgery hey? What a load of crap.
