Ok, Gym Rats. I Need Advice!

I kind of think the whole low weight vs. high weight thing is BS. I think ouroborous made a good thread about it a few months ago, with some good examples. I lifted heavy for years, but the one year I put on ridiculous muscle mass was when I seriously got into competitive boxing, which involves zero weight training, but is like textbook high reps (pounding the bag for hours and lots of push-ups/crunches). The only difference is that with low weight, you won't improve your strength, which to me at least is 1/2 the equation.

How Does A Blood Clot Looks Like?

You mean, the symptoms? The classic symptoms are pain and swelling in ONE leg, it may also change color. The symptoms once it breaks off and goes to your lungs is sudden chest pain and difficulty breathing, it's usually very dramatic.

    This Weeks Sleever Challenge!

This is not so much a new recipe - because not much cooking is involved - but this week, I'm trying a new food.....LAMB TONGUES! I like lamb and was going to buy some at the farmers' market, but it was pretty pricy, and then I spotted the tongues, which were only a few bucks a pound. SOLD!

    Brazilian Butt Lift

Let me know how your consult goes....mine is not til January! I'm thinking thigh lift vs. inner thigh lipo; I don't really have that much skin, so a lift seems excessive given the scarring, BUT I have stretch marks, which can worsen lipo outcomes, so I'm kind of in limbo.

Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

This is not vegan, though, quite the opposite...I'd never do raw, either (well, non-vegan raw would be tough, anyway!). I generally find it impossible to go a single day without dairy or meat, so anything vegetarian, let alone vegan, was never on my list.
  8. I'm sure this is a common problem, but clothing stores seem to have yet to catch on to it. I have a small waist and big thighs, and it's very hard to find jeans unless they are stretchy - and I don't like stretchy jeans. I tried on the Sweetheart jeans at Old Navy today - which are apparently cut specifically for "smaller waist, bigger thighs!" and there was still a giant gap in the back. Anyone here know of brands that might fit my body type?

Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

Cool! I'm about 2/3 through it. I just bought another book, The Paleo Solution by Rob Wolf, I've heard a lot about it, apparently it has lots of good sources and explanations for their theories and is an easy read. We'll see how it goes. Day 3 went well, although we went out for dinner tonight and my boyfriend wasn't interested in the 2 restaurants I suggested (that I knew had grain/legume/sugar-free options I would like), so we went to a different place. The menu wasn't too helpful - good thing I asked the waitress, because the "lean chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and marinated in basil" was apparently deep-fried and breaded! She went and asked the cook for what was grain- and sugar-free and I was given like THREE options, one of which was a dip....lol even I won't eat dip without chips or something! I ended up just ordering assorted sliders without bread. I don't know for sure if the burgers had any bread crumbs or something in them - didn't seem that way - but I did my best. The only other reasonable option was salad, but none of their salads had any Protein on it.

    Omg

You don't need 1.5 oz in one sitting this early. When I was at your stage, I'd have 1/2 a soft-boiled egg in one sitting.

    Sleeping Too Much

That's normal, your body is recovering from pretty major trauma.
  12. Also, I've heard they are working on a pill to try and block ghrelin somehow. That's something I'd definitely be interested in. However, that'd do nothing for emotional eating and binging.
  13. I've heard that, too, but since we have a very limited stomach capacity and our stomachs will hardly stretch, I personally don't feel comfortable trying that. Maybe only a very small amount, like a teaspoon of seeds? I'd hate to end up with a bezoar or something.

    Brazilian Butt Lift

Some butt lifts involve implants, also. Personally, if I were to get a BBL, I wouldn't get implants, I'd be too worried about scar capsules and discomfort when sitting. Fat transfer seems like a reasonable idea, I'd just wonder if you might end up with awful cellulite after. Smooth fat looks fine, but nothing's worse than lumpy fat!

Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

Day 2 went well. Some roast chicken and veggies, steak, trail mix, fruit, Greek yogurt, a latte, and lots of sashimi. No Protein shakes/bars, yet 150+ grams of protein! Zero cravings, I'm pleasantly surprised. Workout went ok, too, I didn't notice any drop in energy levels or endurance. If anything, I was really wired all day yesterday, to the point of having trouble falling asleep.

I say, revel in it! The reality is, people are going to talk about it, anyway. Might as well give them the facts.

    Social & Business Meals Out

Salads are a good option if you don't want people to be aware of how little you ate, especially if they have a lot of mixed greens - they take up a lot of space on your plate, but very little in your stomach.

Hungry After Working Out! (What Do I Eat?)

That's interesting, I have the opposite problem - if I work out in the AM, then it means an entire day of non-stop eating.

    Sashimi Lovers - Poke Salad

Sweet! Another modification I've seen is to sear the tuna (tataki), but keep the rest the same.
  20. That's such a stupid question.....I mentioned to my fiance that I was thinking about seeing a plastic surgeon about my inner thighs and gluteal folds to see whether it can be fixed with lipo or a body lift and to decide whether it was worth it. His response - "I like it, and who's gonna see it besides me?" URGGGGGH. Thanks, but I see it every day and I know I'd prefer these areas to look different. You are only 47! Now that you're sleeved, you've probably added another good 15-20 years to your life expectancy. It's not going to get better, your skin is just going to sag more and more as you get older, and cause you more trouble (infections, getting in the way physically as you become older, etc). Plus the longer you wait, the tougher your recovery would be because of aging. I say, if you want it done, do it! Don't write yourself off as not worth the effort at such a young age.
  21. I'd get Botox; a filler might work, also, as they are quite deep. The plumping moisturizer is not going to do anything, it's only reasonable for very fine lines. I don't think it's stupid, it's just 1 spot and if bothers you enough, why not do it?

Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

So, I'm on Day 2! One thing that pleasantly surprised me after totalling up all my food from yesterday was how much Fiber I had....that was actually one thing I was worried about with cutting out all grains and legumes. I only had like 1400 calories, yet 37 grams of fiber! And the vegetables I had aren't exactly considered high-fiber - tomatoes and cukes. So there you go, so much for "you need to eat lots of Beans and whole grains to get enough fiber." Started Day 2 with a latte, an egg, and a cucumber. Got a chicken roasting in the oven with some onions, carrots, and beets. Nom!

    I Can Eat Anything

I find one good way to deal with this is to have non-addictive sweets in the house, ones that will satisfy the sweet craving, but you won't go nuts for them. For example, I found out the hard way that I CANNOT keep Toblerone in the house. It's my absolute favorite kind of chocolate and I WILL consume inordinate amounts of it if it's in the house. But I don't care that much for, say, dark chocolate, or Turkish delight. Therefore, I keep those in my cupboards and when I feel the urge to have something sweet, I have one or two pieces of either and it takes the edge off without spurning a binge. I bought some giant Toblerones on sale after Easter and I have to admit that last weekend, I brought the two that survived with me to the gym and gave them to a guy who has a young son (they are just too good to go in the garbage!).
  24. I always have the same thoughts when I read a post about how someone finds it impossible to get in 800 calories!

    Pilates Anyone?

I definitely wouldn't describe Pilates as "fun and energetic," but that's just me. I tried a few classes and wanted to put an icepick through my eye.
