    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

    BG - keep your chin up, girl! I'm in the same boat - raining here, had to go to the gym which I prefer not to do during the summer - it's really stuffy in there on top of not having ANY windows, so I'm in a not-perfect mood either. Think back 6 months ago. Wouldn't you have loved an excuse not to exercise then? Look at yourself now - all wired up because you CAN'T. That's incredible! LOOK AT THE POSITIVES and it'll help you get through this time!

    I grew up here so I'm used to it - but many people who move here can't get used to it, that's for sure! The nice thing is that the climate is such that you can get outside and do active things almost any day of the year - very few days that are too hot (last week was an example of that!) and only a handful that are too cold. I just am not yet comfortable enough on the super skinny road bike tires to ride in the rain. I'll certainly have to get used to it, eh?

    BG you crack me up - no, no bitterness! And THANKS guys for keeping my spirits up. As you can see, I, uh, still have a little self esteem issue... BUT, that said, I just got back from a 10.5 mile ride. YAY! I was amazed at how good it felt - I hadn't ridden in a week, between being out of town and the HOT weather (yes, I'm a wimp and I do need to get over it!). I feel ALIVE. You guys rock!

    Hi Guys!!! I've been super busy so I've only had time to read the thread occasionally - it feels really good that you noticed I wasn't around! :confused: I was out of town for a few days and work has been busy. The heat finally calmed down today so I'm hoping to be back on the bike tonight - I was still good and went to the gym on the hot days for my workouts, but I really missed my bike! You guys are a great motivation - I *WILL* get on my bike tonight - maybe do 10-15 miles. You know, you guys are pretty cool. I'm on a few other threads, one where I'm with a bunch of gals banded about the same time as me and I sometimes feel bad that I'm doing really well with my weight loss - almost guilty. So I don't post as much as I probably should. You guys just make me feel good and motivate me to do better!!! I like that. Thanks - you probably had no idea that asking about me and encouraging me would have that much of an impact on lil' ol' me, but it does!!!

    Deanna - you and I are really alike - I've averaged pretty good numbers every week and get really irked when my body just says "NOPE, not this week girlie!" - luckily I remain flat rather than going up, but I have had a few plateaus of 3-10 days, then things start moving again. Some folks have plateaus much longer. IT'S NORMAL albeit frustrating! One lb down is still GREAT - I'm CERTAIN it's your body adjusting. What was told to me once (when I was frustrated like in your situation) is that weight loss is much like a staircase - occasionally you hit a landing before you go down again. And I agree with LosingJusme - take measurements and pics! You KNOW you're losing inches since you're fitting into smaller clothes!

    I'd certainly be interested, but not sure on the logistics of how to get my bike there, etc. Somehow when I can't trust an airline with a small piece of luggage I'm not sure how I'd trust them with my carbon fiber "baby" Would I have to ship it each direction? Hmmmm....

    Sweety - they say you should average 1-2 lbs per week so you're at the high end of average! I say WAY TO GO! Also, it looks like you're newly banded which means you're in the oh-so-important healing phase. I think you did GREAT!

    Juli - sorry to hear DD isn't well! Hope she feels better soon! Deanna - 1000 miles on a bike? Are you crazy woman? Anyhow, it's cooler here today (I think high 80's) but I've got an appointment with my personal trainer, not sure if I'll get on the bike or not since I'll get home pretty late. I'm hoping to hit it hard tomorrow after work before I head out of town for the weekend... I'm going to try for 20-ish miles... my butt's recovered from the 27 last Sunday but my legs are still complaining (STILL!) about the hike I did last Saturday. Since the hike did make me so sore (it's totally, completely a "good sore", mind you) I'm trying to decide what to do Sunday late afternoon when I get back into town - another hike, or a bike ride? Decisions decisions...

    Thanks guys! My scale said 180.2 for three or so days, so I was really hoping to see a movement - I hate even three days of "stuck scale syndrome!" (yes, I'm addicted to the scale and yes I know that's not good!) Nice Job on the 1lb Deanna! Jenifur, 3 lbs is GREAT! And Chickatee - hang in there!

    Kirsten - congrats on the new ride and WAY COOL on the scale moving. You work it girl! And yes - 10 lbs this month is so doable! Brandi - you are just rocking and rolling on the fitness and the food. I'm so proud of you not giving up even though the scale isn't rewarding you as much as you'd like. I'd bet money that you're gaining back the muscle mass you lost a few months when you ramped down on the exercise. Are you taking your measurements? Nat girl - check in sometime - if I remember right, you're travelling this week - the fill still going good for you? So it's 100 degrees here. IN SEATTLE. We melt in this kind of heat around here - almost no one has AC in their homes cuz it's a waste of money for the less than 5 days per year it gets hot. Right now, I'd pay big money for AC! My house, inside, is 80 degrees downstairs and 90 upstairs. And that was with me keeping the windows closed and blinds drawn all day in the hopes I could keep the cooler air in! Maybe I'll just go drive around in my AC'd car for a while... I even whimped out on doing my good outdoor cardio and went to the gym and it was even hot in there!

    JC, thanks for the giggle, I needed that! Other than riding later in the evening (I'm at work by 7am so mornings are pretty much out!) and staying well hydrated, any other tips from those of you in warmer climates?

    How do you guys tolerate riding in the heat? It's supposed to be upper 90's here in Seattle for the next few days, 98 is the forecast today, (which is absolutely MELTING for us) and I'm thinking of just hitting the air-conditioned gym...
  22. Julie (and others) - thank you so much for your honesty and sharing your story. I was always a binge eater, too, and it REALLY helps to hear of others, their struggles, what may have caused them, etc. It really helps me think through my head issues when I'm tempted to binge. So, again, THANKS!

    Why are some people slow losers?

    I'm one of the quicker "losers" being that I'm down 100+ lbs and haven't even hit my 7 month "bandiversary". I am pretty strict with my food and very, very active. I'm lucky to be able to make weight loss my #1 priority - I'm single, no kids, have the disposable income to join a gym, hire a trainer, buy a nice bike. Not everyone has the ability to do this - so I would not expect many to lose as fast as I did. The band will work for the majority of the people that are willing to make the changes to make it an effective tool. You CAN eat around the band. It's not magic - you've got to work it. But most will succeed - some faster than others. It's a really simple calculation - calories in vs. calories out. Counting what you eat (if you measure and are truthful!) is easy to do. Dealing with the calories out is a factor of everyone's activity level and metabolism - much harder to calculate. But in the end, it's still all down to Calories In must be less than Calories Out!

    Hi all! So it took a while for my hard head to figure it out, but I've unfortunately got to keep my band a touch "looser" for 3 weeks per month to survive the fourth week when our favorite visitor comes. Had to have an unfill yesterday. Third unfill I've had, and coincidentally, all three times were during the same time of the month. So I'm not the quickest learner.... third time's a charm, right? Brandi - you are doing AWESOME!!!!!! So is everyone else, for that matter. Keep it up - we're in month seven now of our new lives - how has everyone's life changed? For example, I hiked a mountain on Saturday and took my new bike out for a TWENTY SEVEN mile ride on Sunday (averaged over 13mph with average heart rate of 149 for the 2 hours I rode, so I wasn't out for a "Sunday Ride"). Yes, I'm still walking funny today from the sore muscles, but it's a good sore. I would have NEVER, EVER, considered doing that type of stuff 7 months ago!!!
