  1. Hi Net,

Sorry for the delay, think there was something wrong with this site.

Anyway dont be nervous, if you really want to do this you will know. I did a lot of research once I got my date for surgery, also was scared, I know you have seen your doctor already, but jusy be straight with him tell him your concerns

Remember this is a life changing desicion you are going to make......what I can see is you have quite a bit of weght to loose. I can only tell you what made me decide to do it. I have been on so many diets in my life, have lost hundreds of kilos and put back hundreds more......just couldnt keep it off. I am 58 years old very fit but some problems with arthritis, the problem comes in when you get older.

I was scared for the pain, do have some, but not too bad. If you go ahead with this make sure they give you pain relief to take home. With me they didnt ny husband had to ring the hospital.

The band is only a tool to help you .....you need to watch what you eat .

Hope I have answered some of your questions, please keep me posted

    Good luck and take care

    Desiree

  2. Hi, im getting banded on 10th Feb by Dr Dolan at Joondalup hospital.

I am in my 2nd week of Optifast, surprised I must say, not going too bad. I am having a shake for Breakfast, bar for lunch and Soup for dinner, jelly and broths inbetween, oh plus. two cups of veggies and one fruit.< /p>

A little bit anxious about the pain part, but feeling very positive for the future.

Any body out there who live in Perth, I would love to hear from you.

And any body else where ever you are.

    Desiree

  3. Ok, so I'm all ready to get the lap band... I'm just waiting for the approval from insurance and then all the pre-op testing to be done; however.... I have this friend who is putting doubt in my head about my surgery. She has had the Sleeve done and is sending me all these sites that bash Lap Band and sites where people have crossed over from the band to the sleeve due to complications!! I've already decided that the Lap Band is something that could really assist me in my weight loss journey but the more I'm reading these things the more I'm doubting my decision and considering the Sleeve...

Please HELP!!! Should I actually change my mind and request to have the Sleeve done or stick with the band and "hope" it works for me w/out all of the possible complications and risk not losing weight and risk having to do a cross-over surgery later????

  4. Hi , I am new to this, i have not been banded yet only in Feb.

What I can see is you have done just fantastic.......... so what did you do to get to this point? You know the answer, be proud of what you have acheived, keep going and well done!

This is a amazing blog we have all the info and support .....

Take care and have a awesome day.

  5. Hi Bardy,

Thahnk for all the info, yes there are a few concerns I have , mainly the gas, and also the two weeks on Protein drinks. Lets face it no one likes to be hungry.

I see you said you only lost 10 lbs before your op, thats really good, you are doing well, just remember us more mature ladies have got a battle loosing weight , every thing is not as good as they used to be.

You are doing a great job so hand in there, just remembet we are all in this together

Take care and I hope you have a awesomwe day!!!

  6. It's great to get started with planning for your date -- I did just that when I started researching this procedure back in April and actually only lost 10 pounds before my surgery date which was just this last Friday, December 3. The first day after was the toughest with soreness and the gas pains, but I'm feeling better each day. The liquid diet is a challenge and I feel hungry and have a headache -- guess that will go away as my body adjusts. I have Soups and Protein drinks and have mixed in the Beniful fiber for the digestion issues. I check in with my doctor in two weeks so we'll see how it goes. I am already down 4 pounds since the day of surgery! I'm glad you area all here so I don't feel so alone. Sometimes it can get discouraging especially if you're hungry. tongue.gif

  7. I did just what I said and lost 95 pounds in the 5 months leading up to surgery. The surgery came and went as if it were just another day.

If I can do it anybody can. I am not superhuman and my will is as weak as the next person's.

Most of all, keep a positive can-do attitude about your ability and try and leave all shame and guilt behind. If you faulter, don't quit! Just try a little harder.

  8. Hi all,

Just another person to add to your list. Firstly let me tell you about myself....... I am a fifty eight year old female, who has pretty much the same story as many of you guys, tried soooooo many diets and have just gotten no where.

I have lost hundreds of kilos, but have put on hundreds more. I have now decided to take the plunge and get some real help.

My banding date is 10th Febuary, excited , but also nerveous, my main problem was how am I going to handle this mentally.......what does anybody do when you get sugar cravings? and does this go away at all OR ever.

My second question is ; has anybody ever heard of total restriction on banding?

Any way guys and dolls, just want to say this is a great blog and thanks for all the info and inspiration you give to us newbeys. Well done for making a choose and keep it up!

  9. I told heaps of people. Almost everyone from work knew, my whole family knew. Friends, cousins, mere acquaintances. Everyone.

I got it all. "You're not big enough to need surgery, just diet and exercise', "you're taking the easy way out', 'if only you didn't eat so much, you'd be fine' and the best one 'why have surgery, risk your life like that, when you could do it on your own'

Lazy, I am not. I am a mum of 4 kids, do all the housework in my house, work full-time, was studying part-time and have a full-on life. I do not sit on my arse all day pigging out.

And you know what? Having the band means that I eat the equivalent of a 3yo child to lose weight and keep it off. How exactly was I supposed to maintain that for the rest of my life? No wonder every other diet I tried failed.

I also had food addictions. How many addicts NEED to use their addictions 3 times a day like food addicts do? Make a heroin addict take heroin 3 times a day and ask THEM to break their addiction and you'd be sued for cruel and unusual punishment! The band helped me break my food addictions, because when you can only eat so much, you choose more carefully.

I always was active. But truly exercising only became easier when I started losing significant amounts of weight. The band worked in conjunction with life-style change and made it easier for me to make those positive changes to my life.

So you know what? I let the haters hate. And now I'm lighter than most of them. 38 years of my life I fought a battle I couldn't win until I had the band. There will always be people who don't understand. Ignore them and make the best decision for you.

  10. After tons of stress about pre-existing conditions and being turned down by insurance company was finally approved last Monday for a Dec. 20th Surgery date. I'm a Type II Diabetic and am hopeful to put that disease in remission and start felling good again. Start liquid diet on the 6th and I'm anxious about it-two weeks on liquids alone feels like an eternity to a guy who is always hungrier than a runaway slave-lol. I'm excited and scared all at the same time-I'm thankful for this community. I'm open to any feedback/advice.

  11. I feel exactly the same........ just wondering what I am doing to myself, at 58 years of age. I am sooooo tired of been fat but at the same time I know this is going tojbe life changing, also wonder how to handle going out with friends? I have been reading this blog for some time now and get mostly positive feed back, so I think this is going to be worth it in the end.

Good lucK with your op, mine is Febuary 10th

  12. I just finished reading the BandWagon book and it was great. I have my appointment with my surgeon to discuss the surgery on December 1st. I am going from; I can't wait to be healthy and feel good, to; I can't believe I can't lose 50-60# on my own and then if someone asks us to a steak dinner I can actually eat steak, or a hamburger cook out. I hate when these thoughts creep up on me because I know I will be so glad to have this done but I am also sure that I will be mad sometimes because I did have it done. Does any of this make sense to anyone out there?:(:)
