  1. Sorry everyone I have been so busy, I just wanted to follow up. I went in for port revision surgery yesterday at noon. They put me under sedation (no breathing tube) and I was done with surgery within an hour, discharged by 3pm. My surgeon also did a 1cc fill. I don't know yet if I have any restriction.

He cut into my large incision and extended it a little bigger. I was told no shower until Sunday! Ugh! Doctor called me a few times yesterday but I was sleeping drowsy off the meds. He called me today and said the port was flipped, that the anchors only deployed 2/3 way (Yes it is a Realize-C band). He said he used sutures this time to anchor the port and it should not be going anywhere.

I think the port flipped the day of surgery, I am a side and stomach sleeper and I slept on my side since day 2 post-op. I remember checking out my tummy area after surgery and noticing a bulge where my port is, I think it was on it's side at that point.

Other than that the revision surgery was a piece of cake, I am a bit tired and on liquids for two days but other than needing a good shower I am doing well!

  2. Hello,

I was banded on 09/21/10, and since then I have lost only 20 lbs.

GIRL !!!! I was banded a day after you, I am also down 20 pounds but I am psyched! 20 pounds in 5 weeks that is like 4 pounds a week. It took me 3 months to lose a solid 7 pounds pre-op.

20 pounds is a big deal, go to the store and grab a 20 pound bag of dog food and walk around the store for 15 minutes!!!

  3. When I was considering whether to get banding or bypass, I was told by my surgeon and the head nutritionist at the weight loss center that I should NOT get banded if I am a grazer. I am not a grazer, I have Portion Control issues. I was told grazers have a hard time losing weight with the band because they often find ways to cheat by snacking throughout the day.

Unless you are willing to give up your snacking ways you will probably struggle. You should have a protien drink twice a day and 3 small (satisfying to your cravings) nutritious meals (protein first).

    You can do it!

  4. Cyber Bullying is not a new phenomenon. It is amazing what some people say under the cover of anonymity. The ironic part is most of the people here were probably subject to being picked on and ridiculed due to former or current obesity issues. Shame on them.

I wouldn't leave, ignore what they say, and stick to the topics that help you. I am annoyed myself about the anal sex topic, I find it offensive and childish and will not even read topics like that.

  5. My husband has told me so far

Babe I can tell you are losing weight, you used to have this huge fat bump on the back of your neck and now it is gone!

After having sex he told me my legs lost weight because when I used to bend over the fat in my thighs used to squish my vajayjay together and now it is more spread apart!

I can tell your losing weight, your neck and chin used to be HUGE and now it is almost gone!

    WTF, MEN!!! :w00t:

  6. This is what I do to take my gallstone medicine, I have tried to mix it with a few different things and it is nasty.

Take a small shot glass with an ounce or so of warm Water (very warm if possible but not HOT)

Dump the crushed medicine in the shot, swirl it around, give it some time to dissolve.

Take the shot, rinse out your mouth afterward with warm Water and spit

    Hope this helps!

  7. I can totally relate to this. All my life I have been teased or insulted for being "fat." Even in HS when I was playing 3 sports and in the best shape of my life I was still at best a size 14. I WISH I HAD THAT BODY NOW!!!! :)

My sister was the slender one, I took after my dad. When my father died, he could not fit in a normal sized casket, but he wanted to be cremated anyway. The point being he was a LARGE man.

When I went in for surgery, my mom cried so much. She kept saying how proud she was that I was doing this and how beautiful I will be when I lose weight. She told the nurse how beautiful I was when I was younger, and the nurse said "She is beautiful now" My mom still said "yes but she was much beautiful not so overweight" UGH, they never get it.

Oh and my mom said I "let myself go" to my surgeon at my first appointment. Actually, I have lost 50+ pounds at least 4 times in my life, I just always gradually put the weight back on, and then some!

Don't let it get you down, we are all doing this for ourselves.

PS. Someone told me the other day "I hope you did this surgery for yourself and not for vanity reasons, because, you got it going on already" :)

  8. adult acne can be set off by hormonal changes and stress, hopefully over time your body will adjust and the acne will settle down.

I was also taking sprionolactone for hypertension, I also have PCOS. This medication is a mild diruetic and it is also used to treat acne problems. I noticed while I was on it my acne was almost non-existant. I have not taken it since my banding because I am worried about dehydration, but I have been debating going back on it. I am supposed to take 25 mg a day and usually I just take it every other day.

  9. Obesity is not a disease, it is a condition. It is also a compounding condition, being overweight makes it harder to lose weight because of hormonal issues, energy levels, metabolic issues and the way our bodies process insulin.

Sounds like you should at least explore getting converted to bypass surgery, you should at least find out if your insurance will approve it if you continue to have co-morbidities.

Depression meds can cause you to gain weight too, you should evaluate that issue too.

Don't give up on yourself so easily, the hardest part is getting the initial momentum, and then once you get going it gets easier and easier. Obesity is a lifestyle choice, and you don't have to make that choice. Just work on it one pound at a time.
