  6. So an update: we have finally talked. While it didn't go the way I hoped we now have some understanding. She is mad that her opinion seemingly doesn't matter to me. While I have made my decision to go ahead, her opinion does matter, which is the whole reason I told her about it in the first place. She says i'm impulsive, I want things done now and right away. I haven't tried hard enough, I need to try again, i'm taking the easy way out. Somehow, in her head she thinks she has done more research than I have done. She says "if you think you're going to get my approval on this, you are wrong". Well I am an adult, my insurance covers it, and I have talked it over with my husband. I really hate arguing with her, we are close and this really upsets me

  12. Thank you all so much - There is such great support in this forum! Thankfully I do have people who are greatly supporting me in this journey, it just sucks that she isn't one of them

  17. I just need a little time to vent - thanks for listening in advance So yesterday I went to the first of my 6 month meetings with the nutritionist. I was so excited to finally be starting this, because I have been researching this surgery for years, and at last my insurance covers it! I started the process three years ago, was going to weight watchers again, and decided that this would be the right thing for me - to find out that my insurance did not cover it. So I tried it again, counting calories, going to the gym, etc to no avail. But I never told anyone about these diets I was doing, because I was afraid I was going to fail like I had done so many times before. Fast forward to yesterday, I'm so excited walking out of the nutritionists office, who gave me a glowing review saying that I would be a great candidate for the surgery. My mother calls me and I tell her where I was, and why I was there. She proceeds to yell at me, saying I don't know what i'm doing, this is a drastic surgery, there are so many complications, it's not reversible, i'm lazy, I dont exercise enough, do you know that this is a LIFE change, what am i thinking, blah blah blah. Keep in mind, that I am 28 years old, married (my husband is super supportive of whatever I decide to do) and haven't lived with my mother in about 4 years. She has no idea what i've tried and what i haven't. Plus, I have done so much research that I know all the ins and outs. I told her, that this matter is not up for discussion, that she could be supportive or we would not talk about it. She said bye and hung up. We have not talked since. I know she is probably just scared for me but dang, I really didn't think she would react like this.
  18. Sending prayers your way!!
  19. Just voted for you! Best of luck
  20. Same here! I am going to the dr for current labs on Fri then on the 12th I have my initial consultation with the surgeon! Still have a long way to go, still have my 6 month diet to do but hey gotta start somewhere
  21. Hi everyone, I am just starting this process but i'm in the White Marsh area and i'd love to have a buddy close by! Going with Dr Averbach at St Agnes and still have the 6 month diet to get through
  22. Thanks guys, I appreciate it
  23. AHH! Just a quick vent Last month I got married to an amazing man, and finally have awesome lap band covering insurance (after two years of being without health insurance)! I've been to seminars, chose my doctor, started my 6 month diet - to get a letter from the company's HR team that the insurance is changing on the 1st of the year from Aetna to Independence BCBS. Now they say that there are "no plan design changes", but it still worries me! I started this process 3 years ago just to be let down with an exclusion in my plan, praying this does not happen again! PS- what does "no plan design changes" even mean? LOL thanks for listening
  24. Congrats! Best of luck to you
  25. For those who used Dr A - I'm totally at the beginning of this process. What kind of diet did you have to do? 3 month or 6 month?
  26. I'm hoping to go to Dr Averbach's seminar next month. So excited to finally get this process started!
