    flu shot

I got the flu shot about 12-13 yrs ago and have not had once since. Was the first and last for me. When I got the shot with in an hour I was having a major reaction to the shot, had to go back and they gave me another shot to counter act that shot. I was sicker then a dog. They told me not to ever get it ever again. My oldest son can't have it either since he is allergic to eggs and the shots are egg based. Also wanted to let everyone know at Wal-greens they have the shots for 29.99 and will file with your insurance. No appt necessary either, it's all walk in.
  2. you have to a recovering alcoholic for a year before you can get the surgery. i don't know how it is with everyone else's insurance or drs but this is the way it is with mine. if she isn't willing to take the steps to stop drinking then the band isn't going to help. you have to have self control with the band and not eat or drink. i'd def go in or call the drs office. if you call they might blow you off but if you were to go in person it might be better. but i would open my mouth. she does have to do the other tests like was mentioned so they might pick up on it. good luck
  3. everyone i told was very supportive of me. my mom told me it was one of the best things i've done for myself and she was all for it. i think your aunt's prob is that she had to pay for hers herself. maybe a tad bit of jealousy popping out too. she needs to look at the big picture and not just whats in front of her.

    Expectations

Hmmmm I think we are all on the same page and agree with what he said. Thanks Paul for speaking up and saying it for us.
  8. i'm just a little over 4 months out and am still on my bp meds. but they have lowered them from 20 to 10 mg. it's still on the low side but they won't take me off of them completely . when i went in to have them change it my pcm was out on sick leave so another dr took care of me. hopefully soon i will be off them completely. what a pain to take them...
  9. WOW I think that kinda sums it up. thanks for sharing

    Breakfast Ideas

i'd say anything that tickles your fancy . how about oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, mini frittitas, omelet, bowl of cereal, yogurt with granola and fruit, Protein drink or bar, cottage cheese and fruit, boiled eggs, anything that sounds good to you and you don't have a problem eating. most people can't eat in the morning so they have the Protein Drink and have a snack about mid morning. go take a look over at the food and nutrition forum- lots of good recipes. also do a search on google or yahoo. here is one i found on here: Per Serving: 96 Calories; 3g Fat; 14g Protein; 2g Carbohydrate; 0g Dietary Fiber; 18mg Cholesterol; 588mg Sodium. Exchanges: 2 Lean meat. Egg Muffins (makes 12) 3 3/4 cup Egg Beaters if using silicone muffin pans. If using regular muffin tins with paper liners use 3 cups egg beaters. 1-2 tsp. Spike Seasoning (or salt can be used) 1 cup grated low fat cheese (I like sharp cheddar or a blend of cheddar/Jack cheese) 1 cup diced Canadian bacon, lean ham, or crumbled cooked turkey sausage Optional, but highly recommended, 3 green onions diced small. Optional: chopped veggies such as blanched broccoli, red pepper, zucchini, mushrooms, etc. Preheat oven to 375 F. Use regular or silicone muffin pan, 12 muffin size. If using silicone pan, spray with nonstick spray. If using regular muffin pan, put two paper liners into each slot, then spray liner with nonstick spray. In the bottom of the muffin cups layer diced meat, if using, vegetables, if using, cheese and green onions. You want the muffin cups to be about 2/3 full at this point, with just enough room to pour a little Egg Beaters around the other ingredients. Pour Egg Beaters into large measuring bowl with pour spout, add Spike (or salt), and beat well. Pour egg into each muffin cup until it is 3/4 full. Stir each muffin slightly with a fork. Bake 25-35 minutes until muffins have risen and are slightly browned and set. Muffins will keep at least a week in the refrigerator without freezing. Egg muffins can be frozen and reheated. For best results, thaw in refrigerator before reheating. Microwave on high about 2 minutes to reheat. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/breakfast-ideas-117409/#post1493260 Lap Band Recipes

    Liguid Protein

i buy this too and i really enjoy it. i put a teaspoon of sugar free mocha cappucino in it and blend in the magic bullet.
  12. tonight we had breakfast. they ate toast, bacon and scrambled eggs and i made myself a ham and cheese omelet. was very good too!
  13. my hubby would eat fried meat and mashed taters all the time if i let him. yuck!! not crazy about mash taters and never really have been. unless they are made with all the yummy good stuff lol. we do eat baked cod, shrimp and seafood. he's not crazy about chicken on the foreman. i tried that lol and he said he'd cook it on the grill next time. ok knock yourself out lol. he's not real crazy about oven baked fried chicken but he knows if he wants fried chicken that is what he is going to get here. we have to compromise. what does he not like to eat and what does he love to eat?

    I went shopping

lol seee everyone is different :rolleyes2:. my dr had me on liquids for 2 wks, mushies for 3 then solids for 1 week. then i went for my 6 wk check up. after that i was cleared to stay on solids. liquids pretty much sucked but i was starting to get pretty inventive lol. i think part of me was scared to eat...thought it would hurt and it did at times.
  15. i was banded may 20th and have lost 40 lbs so far. on the above food you mentioned i don't eat any of it. i was told bread, pasta, rice, fried food are off limits among some other foods. some people don't have problem eating them but me personally i'm not about to even try it. i don't want to get stuck and i don't feel that it's really very nutritional to eat it. if i can do without then i do without. yes i do crave some things but i tell myself i am allergic to it. i have a son that has severe allergies to ALOT of foods and wheat being one of them. he can't eat it at all or will die. he went cold turkey so i know if he can go without all these foods then i can too. :rolleyes2: on the fried foods why not bake them? nope it doesnt taste the same but really do you want to eat grease? and on the chinese food try egg drop soup, stir fries or baked egg rolls. i just tend to avoid it all together unless i make it here at home where i can control what is put in it.

    I went shopping

it helps me to make up menu's for a few wks at a time. that they i incorporate new recipes or a new item i am wanting to try. make a grocery list and stick to it. the first few times i went to the store it took me forever because i was reading everything and i was very overwhelmed. i cried when i got home. but now it's a breeze since i do the menu's. did you do the liquids, mushies and then solids after surgery? a week out and on solids i think is a bit fast. i know everyone is diff and every dr is diff but there is no way in heck i could eat solids after a week. if you need some ideas go check out the food and nutriton forum or do a search on google or yahoo for recipes. i found ALOT and printed them off and have made myself a cookbook. even if you find a recipe and you might not like something in it you and improvise and make it to your liking.
  18. i pretty much have what they are having. that way i don't have to cool 2-3 meals a night. last night they had roast and mashed taters. well roast isn't my friend so i pulled out pasta-less lasagna i had made and put in individual conatiners in the freezer for i had that. then a few nights ago they wanted burgers , baked beans and fries well we had that but i skipped the fries and added deviled eggs. tonight the kiddos are having spaghetti, hubby is having shrimp scampi with pasta, i am having the shrimp scampi minus pasta but with steamed broccoli. if they want lets say fried chicken nuggets i will have baked chicken or i will make them eat the baked chicken lol. usually tho if they are wanting something that i can't have i will fix something i want that they won't eat or we will go out to dinner and they get what they want and i get what i want and that way everyone is happy. i also make up menus for 2 wks at a time. i fix things that we can all eat and not just me or not just them. i have changed there eating habits and they are eating healthier (except for the fried foods but they don't bother me anymore). i also make sure the meat is something i can have and the sides i just deal with.

    Zumba

i have the dvd's and yes it's hard. i feel like a major screw up while doing it lol. but if there are steps i can't get i just improvise. might look silly but it's ok at least i am moving.
  20. today i go in for another check up. seem to be doing this every 6 wks. i was banded may 20th and have only had 1 fill of 4 cc's at my first 6 wk appt. sure hope i get something today lol. since my last appt i've only lost about 6 lbs give or take because it keeps going up and down. so we will see...

    another check up today

everyone is different but to me restriction means when i can eat lets say 2 scrambled eggs and i am satisfied and i don't want to eat anymore. i'm not 'full' to the point of being uncomfortable and wanting to puke but i deff don't want anymore to eat. good luck on your surgery.

    another check up today

lol no fill. he/we decided no fill for me this time. he said i was doing outstanding didn't want to do a fill and have my to tight and then have to do an unfill if i have a prob. plus i told him i've gotten stuck twice now ( from eatting to fast and talking lol) so he said well evidently you do still have some restriction lol. it's ok i'll just work harder at it and he told me i could come in earlier if i needed to .
  23. Since you've been banded what are your favorite foods to eat now since your diets have changed? Mine is baked cod with twice baked taters made the low fat way. I also crave beans lol. I could eat them everyday and be a happy camper. I never really was a bean person but now I like them. Weird . So what are your favorite foods?
  24. here is the copycat recipe for wendy's chili. Wendy’s Chili Please note: While Wendy’s may use grilled hamburger patties, I suggest that home cooks used ground meat for convenience. 2 lbs. fresh ground beef 1 qt. tomato juice 1 (29 oz.) can tomato puree 1 (15 oz.) can red Beans, drained 1 medium onion (1 1/2 c.), chopped 1/2 C. celery, diced 1/4 C. green pepper, diced 1/4 C. chili powder (you may want to use less, some people find this is too much) 1 tsp. cumin (if you like real flavor, add more) 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. each: black pepper, oregano, sugar 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper In a frying pan, brown the ground beef; drain. Put the drained beef and the remaining ingredients into a 6-quart pot. Cover the pot; let it simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.
