I feel like we are waiting for the good news! Lol... -
Congratulations on your weight loss! The band can be so unpredictable! Staying in tune with your band and body is so important! It definitely seems like you understand that! Good luck with those last 20 pounds!

Day 4 and not doing so well
laurigee replied to Lionbird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have super mom syndrome! Stop!!! You are allowed a break!! The house, kids and your mother-in-law will all be there when your feeling better! The more you stress about it the worse you will continue to feel! Relax, sometimes life CAN be about you! Feel better!!! -
Boyfriend didnt agree with surgery
laurigee replied to katiedee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I said the same thing to my husband on my recent hysterectomy. He laughed at me, gave me a hug and kiss, and told me there was no way I was going to be in the hospital without him there. He knew my mom, sister, kids, and 2 sister-in-laws where there but it wasn't about them taking care of me, he wanted to!! A crappy, disappointing boyfriend makes an even worse husband!!! I wish girls would learn that before they get married! I hate to be blunt but if he has no empathy for you, your not his "forever"! Living with a person that does not put himself in your shoes will lead to a long life together of disappointment! It's not a trait you can instill into him. As a matter of fact, maybe he does have it, but not with you! Demand more for yourself, life is to short to try to turn Mr. Wrong into Mr. Right! Woman spend to much time trying to make a man understand what they need or expect from them. The right one will know exactly what you need or want without being reminded because they have taken the time to actually listen to you and listen to your needs, not just their own! This is my tough love speech! LOL -
Today started off less than favorable...

Pain meds that are extended release, they are not made to be absorbed into the system all at once! We had a kid in our area that crushed pain meds to take them for a high and died of an overdose! Extended release drugs should never be crushed! I hope your feeling better soon! -

That is one of the reasons I never take pain medication! I know that it's not proper, but when I have this problem and nothing seems to work I shake up a regular coke or pepsi so it doesn't have any carbonation and drink it. It seems to work faster and better than anything else. I use it as my last resort but it never fails me. This is just a suggestion, I know most people won't agree with it, but I'm just throwing it out there! I hope you feel better soon! -

Please encourage me with YOUR "back to the business of weightloss" story

I don't want to be the downer here but it's really hard to be healthy for only 6 months out of the year! Lol.... I know that your super busy and stressed but your going to have to put yourself a little higher on the priority scale. You have to be able to take an hour for yourself and exercise! It clears your mind and distresses you and gives you the energy to be able to control your life in every area! The healthier your mind and body the better you are able to deal with the priorities at the top of your list! You have to remember your health is important all year, not just when you have time! It's hard to get into a routine and make healthy choices a habit when you have a preconceived timeline in your head of when your going to be too busy to continue! Your worth it, take time for you ALL year!!!! -
I think for me personally the most important thing is exercise! I have not lost a pound since I have not been able to exercise for the last 1 1/2 months. I had a hysterectomy, broke a rib, and had the flu. My doctor has not yet cleared me for more intense workouts. I have been walking, but not at the level it takes to lose weight. You can go to the gym 7 days a week and if you don't get your heart rate up enough it's just not going to give you the results you desire. This is just what I have found personally! Everyone's bodies react differently. Some can just eat less to lose, I don't feel that is as effective for me. Your going to have to mess with your foods and exercise and see what your body responds to! Good luck! It is just another part of the process of getting to know your own body!

First Fill Today-Maybe a potential issue :(
laurigee replied to Spaness2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sending you my thoughts and prayers that everything will turn out fine! One thing I have learned in my many years on this earth is that there is no point of getting upset or worrying about things! Whether you spend the next week on pins and needles worrying about it, it will not change the outcome! Don't worry about it until the doctor tells you to. You could spend your whole week upset to find out it was a waste of time and energy and everything is fine! Life is to short to spend time worrying about things that are out of our control! -
Banded yesterday, ahhhh! I did it!!

Congratulations!!!! Now your journey begins!!! -
I always feel hungry! I'm just glad that I no longer feel like I'm starving! However, I have never been able to tolerate fills. I'm working with my surgeon with that right now. I agree with everyone else, protien is the key. Stay away from the foods that don't keep you satisfied for very long! I love my sugar free Popsicles and sugar free pudding between meals when I get hungry. It makes me feel like I'm cheating without really cheating!

No hair loss here either!

Your right! Everyone's journey is different! I have been banded since 2006 and was at goal for only a few years. Things happen with the band, life happens, and other health issues arise. You've lost over 60 pounds! Who cares if your not "at goal"! Your not 280 pounds anymore! I don't think the ONLY form of success is that you see a chart given number on your scale! Keep up the good work and never give up! Your no less healthy than a portion of the people on this site that reach their "goal" by getting their bands so tight that they suffer from acid reflux every day and don't eat enough to get the proper nutrients for their bodies to be healthy! Every persons journey is different and everyone's goals are different! I personally think you have been successful. You haven't quit or given up! Keep going, I'll be rooting for you!!!

I hope that removing some fluid will help you feel better! It's hard enough to figure this whole process out! It makes it even harder if your physically not feeling well! Keep us posted on how your doing!
-
Had surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. I can honestly say it was pretty painless except for some shoulder discomfort that was relieved by walking and a heating pad. I never even needed the pain meds. Everyone is different, unfortunately your not going to know until it's over. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!!

Im so sorry to hear your bad news! I will be sending prayers your way!

Confused, need some input
laurigee replied to jennygirl37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that certain foods are better than others at keeping us satisfied longer. This could be why sometimes you feel satisfied and sometimes you don't! If this is your first fill it is probably pretty unlikely that you are in the green zone. Don't be afraid if things don't seem right with getting some fluid removed. The smallest amount can relieve symptoms and still give you the same restriction. Getting and removing fills can be a very tedious process and very frustrating and confusing! If your doctor feels you should get some removed I personally would listen to him. Good communication between you and your surgeon is key to your success! Good luck! -
Whoever told you that you would fail the liquid diet is not very supportive! Lol... Stay far away from that person!!! Our stomachs and bodies go through so much during this stage! It gets better every day! Not because it gets easier, but because it is one step closer to being over!! This is the time that you need to dig deep and find out how much you want this!!! I have faith you can do it!!! Keep coming here if you need support, we will try to help you get through this as much as we can!! Stay motivated!!

Post op is making me feel lazy
laurigee replied to Frederic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor okay'd me after 3 weeks. I released my nervous energy by walking on my treadmill. By the time I was released to do more I was able to walk at 4.2 on the treadmill with a 2 incline for 45 minutes. Every day I just stepped up the pace a little more. -
Does anyone besides me have a problem with back fat?
laurigee replied to marfar7's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I haven't had any problems with loose skin, however, I try to reshape my body through exercise. I find if I target certain areas specifically that I don't like, it usually works. The back is definitely something that needs specific work. Most exercises we do don't target that area. Good luck ! -
The proper amount of protein and drinking my water are important for me! Maybe reduce your calorie intake a couple of days per week, that also helps. Your doing great! Even if it took 17-18 months to reach your goal that isn't unreasonable! Remember the day you looked at your surgeon and said you realized that the lap-band is not a "quick fix"! Your doing great, embrace it and enjoy the ride!!!!
-
I would have had her repeat that comment so I could record it! Then I would listen to it every time I felt like I was getting down on myself! Lol... Nothing better than positive encouragement! Congratulation, you know your a success when you can rock a hospital gown! Lol...

Feeling kind of down...
laurigee replied to GeorgiaGirlie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will guarantee that everyone else notices those 75 pounds! I think when we work so hard to lose the weight that we expect to look great in photos! Embrace your journey and realize how far you've come! Don't let your brain and that photo discourage you and make you feel that you haven't done enough! Maybe approach this journey differently and start asking how long will it take until my body gets healthy through proper eating and exercise. Don't be obsessed with the photos or your clothes, start to notice being able to workout longer, eating more healthy, eliminating bad habits! Give yourself other goals than appearances! congratulations on your weight loss! By the way, I hate how I look in pictures too! I've excepted that at 140 or 280 I'm just not photogenic!! Lol..
