    September Bandsters

LisaLee..It only took you 45 minutes. Your a computer genious, it took me about 2 hours to get the two tickers I have. Wish I would have seen MimIN instructions sooner.
  2. Ginatae55..I really didn't take much with me to the hospital. I was in the beautiful robe they give you until I was released. Which was a day later. I would suggest that you wear clothes that are easy to slip on and don't wear shoes that you have to tie. Slip ons are the best. Like said above a pillow for the ride home is nice. I actually took my favorite blanket also and kind of snoozed on the way home. Make sure you have alot of things such as juices(I was allowed cranberry and white apple), and anything like motrin so you don't have to worry about leaving the house after the surgery. I also had alot of magazines, crossword puzzles, etc. in the house before hand so I wouldn't get bored. Now is the time to catch up on alot of reading. I also printed off alot of info on lap band that I kept reading over. Just enjoy doing nothing for a few days. Good Luck again and if you need to just talk or have any questions feel free to ask.
  3. Good Luck On Your Surgery Tomorrow. The Surgery Was Not That Bad. I Would Stay Away From Perscription Pain Killers They Can Make Your Stomach Queezy. Motrin Worked For Me. Staying Positive And Knowing That It Will Still Be Work Are The Sure Signs That Your Ready And That You Have Realistic Expectations. Its A Great Tool That Can Help Many People When All Else Has Failed. I Am Glad I Did It. Good Luck, Don't Be Nervous, And Let Me Know How Your Surgery Goes. Take It Easy And Let Your Body Heal At It's Own Pace. Remember Some Take Longer Than Others. Don't Base Your Recovery On What Others Say Their Experiences Where. This Will Be The First Of Many Times From Now On That You Will Have To Listen To Your Body.
  4. Hi Deb...i Too Am From Wi. I Live In Cambridge. It's About 20 Minutes From Madison. I Was Self-pay And Had My Surgery With Dr. Erickson In Fort Atkinson,wi. It Cost 17,500. Mexico Is Definately Alot Cheaper. I Can't Help You Out With Your Doc, But I Just Wanted To Welcome Another Wisconsinite To The Lap Band Forum. Good Luck On Your Lap Band Journey, It Is Well Worth It.

    Banded in September

Catfish... I Think Your Doing Great. I Was Banded On The 5th And I Have Lost 36lbs. I Have Even Had 2 Fills Already. You Haven't Had Any So That Makes The 40lbs Even More Impressive. We Would All Like To Lose It Faster But Remember Slow And Steady Wins The Race. Good Luck And Keep Up The Awesome Work.
  6. I Would Like To Say That The Band Has Stopped My Binges But It Hasn't. I Just Get Sicker Now Afterwards Than I Did Before. I Wish I Would Have Worked More On The Issues Around Why I Binge Before I Had My Surgery. Now I Worry Every Time I Binge About Whether Or Not My Band Will Slip Or If My Pouch Will Stretch. If Either Would Happen It Would Be A Very Costly Mistake For Me Being That I Was Self-pay And It Cost $17,500. I Don't Think You Should Cancel Your Appointment, I Just Think Some Soul Searching Would Be A Good Idea Before Hand. I Have Lost 36 Pounds And I Definately Don't Think I Could Have Did It Without The Band. I Just Wish I Didn't Abuse The Tool I Have Been Given. You Can Obviously Tell What My New Years Resolution Will Be. Good Luck On Your Journey And Just Remember To Be Truly Healthy We Have To Work On Mind And Body.

    Sabotage?

Kat I Would Just Tell Her That Your Husband And Yourself Are Watching What You Eat And That You Really Appreciate The Thought, However, The Food Isn't Getting Eaten And You Feel Horrible Having To Throw Most Of It Away. Tell Her You Know How Much Time It Takes To Prepare And That It Should Go To Someone Who Is Able To Eat And Finish It. I Would Also Let Her Know That She Is An Awesome Cook And That You Appreciate It, But Its Just A Shame Its Being Wasted. Good Luck. Try To Kill Her With Kindness. That Usually Works Every Time.

    Considering Surgery

Different Doctors Have Different Pre-op Diet Restrictions. Mine Was Full Liquid And No Sugars For 10 Days Before Surgery. Alot Of Docs Don't Require Any Special Diet. You Will Have To Consult With The Surgeon To Find Out His Or Her Diet Requirements. I Will Not Lie And Say That It Is Easy. Until You Change Your Mind Set About Food Nothing Will Change. I Am Still Struggling With That. I Have Only Lost 36lbs Since September And Most Was Lost On The Pre-op Diet. Every Day You Have To Choose To Commit To Change. I Will Say That I Don't Think I Could Have Lost What I Have Without The Band. Don't Think This Is A Miracle Way Of Weight Loss, Every Pound Is Still Hard Work. Make Sure That You Have No Hesitation At All Before You Make The Choice Of Lap-band. Just Like Anything If Your Not 100% Sure It Just May Not Be The Right Time For You Just Yet. Again, I Love My Band, But I Was 1,000% Sure It Was The Right Time For Me. Good Luck On Your Journey, Whatever You Choose, I Wish You The Best.

Hi Everyone. I am so excited to be in this challenge with everyone. You seem to encourage and support each other so much and I definately need that. I don't really know if I ever really introduced myself. I am very ignorant to doing anything on the computer. Like I said before I was banded on 9/05/06 in Fort Atkinson, WI. I am a stay at home mom of two boys 12 and 14. My husband and I own 2 car dealerships in WI. I have been married for 15yrs. Been overweight since my children were born. Which has been a very long time.If I haven't tried the diet or diet pill it doesn't exist. My husband actually thought the surgery would be a good idea so he would get his old wife's personality and smile back. I actually missed it to. Has turned out to be life changing and has put the smile back on my face. Thanks for allowing me into this wonderful family and I hope I can return the inspiration that so many of you have given me. HERE'S TO A GREAT NEW YEAR FOR US ALL!

    For Women only...sorry guys!

Angela I Haven't Had The Breast Discomfort But I Definately Have The Shoulder Pain. I Too Get It If I Eat Something That Doesn't Agree With Me Or I Eat Too Much. Exercising Every Day Helps Alot. I Have Been Banded For 5 Months And It Is Still An Issue. Good Luck, I Hope This Helped.

When will I start losing again?

Mypov I Lost The Most Weight Right Before Surgery. I Have Had 2 Fills Now And Still Have Only Lost About A Pound A Week. I Think Everyone Is Different. I See Alot Of People With My Same Surgery Date That Have Lost Alot More Than Me. I Haven't Really Did Alot Of Exercising Lately So I'm Sure That Has Alot To Do With It. Hang In There. At Least The Scales Are Going In The Right Direction. Good Luck.

    22 days until LB!!

Congratulations On Your Upcoming Surgery. Everyone Is Different But I Could Pick Up My 13lb Bichon-shih-tzu Mix The Day After Surgery. I Did Have A Problem With Him Trying To Jump On My Stomach When I Was Laying Down. Ouch! Good Luck!

    A Lapbanster's Christmas Confessions

About 5lbs Here. I Went Back To Everything I Did Prior To Having Lap Band. Rather Ashamed Of Myself And Having A Hard Time Getting Back On Track. I Feel Like Every Day I Am Saying I Will Start Tomorrow And Once Tomorrow Is Gone I Say I Will Start Monday. Bad Habits Are Hard To Break.

    Complications Arm/shoulder

I Have The Same Thing. I Have Noticed That With Certain Foods It Tends To Get Worse. I Can't Drink Anything Carbonated. If I Overeat It Seems To Worsen Also. Alot Of It Actually Went Away After My 3rd Fill. Doctor Couldn't Explain Why I Had The Pain Or Why It Diminished Some After The Fill. Who Knows, But Your Not Alone. Good Luck And I Hope It Gets Better For All Of Us.

    I'm Syrah

Hi Syrah Welcome And Congratulations On Your Upcoming Surgery. I Think That With Recovery Time It Is Soo Different With Everyone. I Had No Problems And No Pain That Motrin Didn't Take Care Of And I Was Only Down For 2 Days. The Day Of Surgery And The Next Day Until I Was Released From The Hospital. Mowed The Lawn The Next Day And Started Walking Every Day Immediately Afterwards. I Think I Was So Excited About Finding An Answer And Doing Something About It That No One Could Keep Me Down. I Think I Have A Pretty High Pain Tolerance Though. Again, It All Depends On The Person. Don't Rush Yourself, Just Listen To What Your Body Is Telling You. There Is No Prize Won For Recovering Faster Than Anyone Else. It Truly Is Up To Your Body. Take Care And I Can't Wait To Here From You Again To Let Us Know How Things Went.good Luck

Linda I Just Noticed That You Had The Same Starting Weight, Goal Weight And We Are Currently Only 3 Pounds Different In Weight. We Will Have To Encourage Each Other To Stay On Task And We Can Both Hopefully Reach Our Goal Together. What Was Your Surgery Date? Good Luck And I Look Forward To Watching Your Progress.

    September Bandsters

Hi Everyone. I Was Banded On 9/05/06 And Have Watched All Of Your Amazing Weight Loss For The Christmas Challenge. You Guys Are Doing Soo Much Better Than I Am. I Lost Quite A Bit Quickly Now It Is Down To Barely Anything. Anyway, I Would Love To Join Your Next Challenge. What Exactly Do I Do? Do You Weigh In Once A Week And Report Back Here? If So, Is There A Particular Day? I Hate To Admit That I Am Completely Computer Illiterate And Haven't Figured Out The Ticker Yet Either. Oh Well. Wt Before Surgery 251 Current Wt 215 Goal 150

    Banded 12/20/06

Hi and congratulation on your surgery. This site is great. You can always find someone who is going through the same things you are and that can be a great comfort in knowing that your not alone. Can't wait to see your progress. Good Luck and just take it slow. If you don't like taking pain pills just maybe see if motrin will work for the pain I know it did for me. I can't take perscription painkillers without getting sick and that was enough for me. Good Luck again!

    No liquids required! Cool!

Jachut I wasn't the one who first brought up two classes of obesity it was sussanah and I just agreed. I don't know why you are being so defensive. I think we must be misunderstanding each other. My point was just that you don't have to wait for your band to be in to start a healthier lifestyle. I think I am able to safely say that there is a reason why most doctors in the US don't do the surgery for BMI's of less than 40. I don't have a problem with that since I was only a 41 prior to surgery. Personally I think every surgery thats done on anyone needs to be necessary. Of coarse every doctor and insurance company needs a cut off point and I think the cut off is very fair. Again, that is just MY opinion. I may have not came across as clearly as I should have and I apologize for anyone who was offended, which you seem to be. SO TSK, TSK ON ME.

    Chinese Food

Chinese Was My Favorite Food Before Lap Band And Unfortunately I Have Tried It Twice And Both Times I Got Horribly Sick. But Everyone Is Different. I Don't Miss It Because Of How Sick I Actually Got On It. There Are Only A Few Foods I Can't Eat And The Others Are Any Type Of Bread And Cakes. The Funny Thing Is These Are The Foods I Thought I Couldn't Live Without. Who Knew I Actually Would Be Ok Without Them. Well Best Of Luck. I Was Also Banded In September And Have Lost About The Same As You. Good Luck To You And Have A Great Time Hopefully Eating Chinese On New Years.

    Hunger after surgery

Maurdan I Was So Excited About Being Banded That I Didn't Even Think Of Food For The First Week. Actually I Was The Best With Exercise Also Because I Felt Like I Had A New Toy. It Was Much Easier After Surgery Than Before. I Was Starving Just Before Surgery On The Liquid Diet. But Like Flabuless Said Above It Does Truly Depend On The Person. Good Luck To You And Keep Us Posted.
  23. Wendyjoy My Doctor Made Me Have Documented Weight From My Doctors Office For The Last 5 Years. I Wasn't At A 40 Bmi For All 5 Of The Years Either. I Also Had To List The Diets And Bring In Any Info I Had From Weight Loss Centers Documenting The Amount Of Time I Went And My Weights. I Needed This Info And I Was Self Pay. I Think You Probably Have To Jump Through More Hoops If Your Insurance Is Paying For It. Unfortunately, Mine Doesn't Cover Lap Band But Would Have Covered Gastric Bypass. I Just Thought The Lap Band Seemed Like A Much Healthier And Less Dangerous Way To Go. Good Luck On Your Journey And I Hope You Are Approved For Surgery. Hang In There It Can Be A Long Process Just Getting To The Surgery Date But It Is All Well Worth It.

    Hello!

i have dean care insurance and it is funny how they have a program set up for lap band but they refuse to pay for it. they would pay for gastric bypass but refused to pay for the lap band. i hope some day they change their policy when they see lap band is an effective way of weight loss and less dangerous to peoples health than GB. congratulations shesha and good luck with your surgery. the price seems great in Denver. I was self pay. had mine in fort atkinson and paid 17,500. this included doctors visits and fills for a year, psych visit, and nutritionist visits. Can't wait to see how you do. congrats again.
