  1. How often do you weigh yourself (daily, weekly, monthly, never) and why?

P.S. I've been weighing myself everyday since I started my journey. It hasn't bothered me one bit until today because it said I went up by two pounds. I'm still working on my whole "perfection" issues. Just curious what the rest of you folks do...

    Hi-

I weigh myself maybe 5 or 6 times a day ! I know that is border line psychotic but I can't help myself. Somedays when the scale shows a small weight gain I do Protein Shakes for the next 2 days(pre-opt diet).

I am currently in bandster hell, I was banded 6/3 and had restriction without a fill up until maybe the 2nd week in July...now I am working hard at staying on track and sometimes it does not work.....oh well, I am not giving up...I get a fill on 8/12 so I hope it helps.

  2. I was banded on 6-23 and have had no restriction so I thought my band was empty. I have been struggling to eat the right things as I am hungry all the time. I went for my first fill today and the NP said I had 5 cc's in there so she only gave me a .5cc and said to come back in 2 weeks!!! I am so discouraged. I have only lost a total of 9 LBS and I am starting to think I really had this surgery for nothing!!!!!

Hey 9 lbs is great ! I was banded 6/3, my band is empty and as of yet I have not had a fill, I go 8/12 which is the first appointment I was able to get. I am hungry now all the time...I did great for about the first month, I now know what bandster hell is......Just remember the weight did not come on overnight and it will not go off overnight.

I have eaten a few things that I should not have eaten and I also had stopped keeping my food journal....started back on Monday and I already see a difference on the scale.

    Good luck to you !

  3. Hey guys! I was just wondering...sometimes I have to split up my walk..20-30 minutes twice a day instead of 40-60 minutes at one time. I know they say as long as you get so many minutes a day, you're good, but what do you guys think? I work 7a-3:30p and try to walk before work and either on my lunch break or after work. I do notice that if I walk twice a day instead of once, I tend to walk more total minutes a day. Thanks for your time guys! Hope everyone is doing well! Leeanne :bored:

    Hi Leeanne-

I also break up my walking and my dr says thats fine as ong as I get the exercise in. I start work at 6am so I really only have a 1/2 in the morning to walk and then in the evening I walk usually with my 12 yr old son or my husand and that is usually a 45 minute walk on most days. So you are right I do seem to get in more walking by splitting it up.

    Good luck !

  4. ewoodle~ Were you very hungry in the beginning? I know it's mostky head huger I am going thru and the withdrawl of carbs/sugars/etc....but today I was hungry all day I am only 4 days post-op (banded june 9th)and am scared i am going to feel like this everyday. Today I had 4oz of a Protein shake, 4oz SF Jello, 1 cup very thin cream of ckn Soup (thinned out with ckn broth) and some cottage cheese and I am still hungry. what is wrong with me????:(

    Hi-

I am 10 days post op and yes i am still hungry sometimes. This is a learning process, I am still not sure how many calories I should be taking in or how much I should be eating at each meal.

I meet with the nutritionist on Tues 6/15 so hopefully she will shed some light on the situation. I have lost 8 lbs in the 10 days so I am happy about that. Who knows maybe I should have lost more but I haven't and I am not going to beat myself up because of it.

The post op diet for me is actually harder than the 10 day liquid pre op diet I have no idea why.:( I am staying upbeat and focused.

Just remember that everyone is different, and you will lose at a different rate from someone else. Drink plenty of Water because when you start to get hungry that definitely helps !

    Good luck to you !

  5. When I was banded, on 6/5/09, I was at my highest weight ever, 212. Now, a year later, I'm at 190.5.

It took me 10 months to get to a satisifed level of restriction in my band.

Now my weight is hardly budging, despite reducing what I'm eating. I don't always make the right choices, but sometimes I do. Exercise comes and goes, right now I'm not exercising.

I went into the surgery with a weight loss goal of 60 pounds. As it never seems to get any closer (21.5 lbs in a year??!!), I'm really beginning to wonder if this is even worth it.

Right now, I'm basically using the band to help me not gain weight, or at least not gain much weight, and am still having trouble learning how to eat.

I've been eating on my own for 20+ years, and trying to learn how to re-eat is incredibly stressful.

Does anyone else feel the same way as me? My nutritionist is on maternity leave, so the girl that has taken her place is just not nearly as good as the one I was used to. Granted, she does a great job sounding like a text book, but I left my most recent appointment (Thursday) feeling even more upset. The exercise physiologist helped some, but with having to make up some missed time at work, I'm finding it hard to exercise.

I'm having a lot of trouble with this defeatist attitude - throwing up 50% chance at meals/not losing weight/makes me not want to exercise.

Can anyone help me? This is the hardes thing I've ever done in my life and I just don't know if its worth it at all.

    Hi-

I can't offer much advice because I was just banded on 6/3/10, I can say that in everything that I have read and everything that I was told in the support meetings and in all of my meetings with my surgeon they stress exercise and eating healthy.

This was a hard decision for me to make and even though I am hurting and I want to eat food the way that I am staying focused even during pre opt is that I keep reminding myself of why I am doing this. For my health and for my family. Also I would tell you to remember that your weight did not accumulate overnight so it will take some time and some attitude changes toward food to make this work.

Exercise is anything that you are doing to pump up your heart rate. The last month I have been unable to get to the gym do to family and work obligations but I get up in the morning and do the exercises with the tv....early mornings they have all types of aerobic workouts on. Maybe you can try that.

Don't give up and don't be so hard on yourself. We are all in this together. Good luck and God bless :tongue2:

  6. Then pre-op diet for me has been complete hell to be honest. I am on day 4 and I think I am finally starting not to feel as hungry. I wouldnt worry about losing a ton of weight, it is all about shrinking the liver which I am sure you are doing bc your not cheating. I have had alot of trouble with the Protein drinks and keeping them down:drool:. Yes I have thrown up alot, so I called my doc and tried a couple of other things to make me satisfied. The biggest thing I do now if I feel starving I take my chicken broth, warm it up and put 1 cracker in it. Its not much but it gets me through the day. Also the weight will come off just keep chugging. I am having a hard time as well, but we can do it. My surgery is June 8th and I want to be ready. Good luck to you.

Sorry you are having a hard time.

Try Muscle Milk...it comes in great flavors and it is very good....my 12 year old son has started drinking them. They have a mocha latte, strawberries n cream, bananas n creme, vanilla creme, chocolate malt and several others. I get them from GNC, Walmart, target, walgreens......Good luck I hope this helps !

  7. Farm girl-

how are you doing now? I'm hungry alot, but sometimes the thought of food make me feel sick. But i've still lost only the same 5 pounds. I go for surgery on friday and feel like i should just back out since i can't lose weight on liquid, how am i going to lose weight with the band. I've never been a big eater and exercise alot... i'm so tired and sad and feeling like a loser before i even begin. Please tell me you're doing well.. i need to know how everyone else does this...

Don't feel like a loser.....I am on day 6 of the preop diet and I have only lost 5 lbs....its not because I am cheating because I have not. Went to 3 BBQ's yesterday and did not cave in.

You can do this, this preop diet I am sure is difficult for almost everyone.....I get banded 6/3/10 and nothing and I do mean nothing is going to change my mind. We can do this. Stay on track and just remember the reason why you decided to get banded in the first place.

For me I have already booked my flight for December........I plan on being able to use the regular seatbelt and not a seat belt extender.

I have found the people on this website to be extremely helpful and my surgeon's team are wonderful....I feel victory and so should you !:smile2:

Good luck and God bless !

I already love this site and the blogs:thumbup:

  9. I'm scheduled for surgery June 7 and I am really excited. I have read a lot of posts on this site. I can relate to a lot of the pre-op diet feelings. This is day 5 of my 2 week pre-op diet schedule and today was actually a good day. I went through the faint feelings and headaches on day 2 and it has progressively been better thus far. My diet consisted of 2 high Protein, low carb shakes and one frozen entree' that had certain parameters. Next week I will drink four Protein Shakes daily and no solid foods. I can have all the sugar free popsicles, Jello and crystal light along with 64 oz of Water that I want. I just started having popsicles and jello yesterday. I just keep my mind on the ultimate goal. My support system has been great as well. I'm looking forward to reading the postop experiences as well. Good luck to everyone. We should stay in touch and plan some big party in a great place this time next year. I'm ecstatic

This sounds good to me .

Jello wasn't own my list....I have to talk with the nurse tomorrow about that.

I just feel like I should be chewing but I guess chewing is what got me in this mess to begin with huh....LOL:rolleyes:

  10. I only had to do the pre-opt diet for 7 days before surgery, I am on my 3rd day because I started a day early.

I have only lost 5 lbs so far since my journey started at the end of march. I probably shpuld have started then with healthier eating and exercise but I did not. I have come full swing on board the last 2 weeks though.

I hope all goes well for you.
