  1. i know how you feel. i've known about the slimband for about 2 years and thought and thought and thought about it. kept putting it off because of the cost but my mom happened to mention a commercial she saw a few weeks ago and that's all it took. within 2 weeks i had already had my first meeting to find out all the ins and outs, paid the deposit and book my appointment. it's amazing how just a simple bump starts things rolling. i think the timing is right in other ways too because dh and i have been trying for 4 years to get pg again and have a second child. i think my weight has played a huge part in not conceiving so maybe in a year or so i can report that we're expecting our second child.
  2. Hi Kittykat. Great to have someone join me in the month. Hopefully more will join as the weeks go by. good luck with your appointment - we don't have to do any of that here but then we have to pay 16,000 out of pocket for it too so i think i'd rather wait 6 months and have it covered  i tried to edit my second post to add you but the edit button is gone - wonder if you only have a short number of days to edit a post before they remove that option.
  3. we're going to Quebec City for a week, Richmond Virginia for a week, Savannah for 4 days and Disney World for 7 days. I just don't want to be too far from home right after in case there is a problem. if i were to book now it would be for the last week in June - too soon for me. thanks for sharing your experience

    Excess skin

I'm assuming after losing 150lbs i'm going to need a tummy tuck to get rid of the excess belly skin that has stretched over the years. or does the skin shrink as you lose weight? does it make a difference if you lose quickly or slowly? did anyone get a tt or do you just live with the loose skin?

    It's official

i'm glad you know what i'm feeling. i haven't had any surgery ever do i'm a bit nervous of how this is all going to end up. but this time next year we'll be in the final stages of prep for visiting my aunt in england and i can't wait to finally be able to fit my fat butt in the seat and not feel pain from the seat belt.
  6. i just booked my surgery for August 12th but what happens next? We'll be away for the entire month of July and only back the week before my op date so i'm guessing any appointments i need will have to be in June. can anyone advise me as to what i should expect to happen and how quickly it will be thanks
  7. LOL it's ok - i've been calling it the 2011 new years cruise because we leave in 2011 so i'm the one who's being confusing
  8. So I guess it's a good time to introduce myself. I've started a blog (On the road to being fit...again.) which I hope will help keep me on track I haven't booked an appointment yet because we're going away for the entire month of July and I'm looking at the calendar for August but hopefully it will be the second week of August. I'm hoping to lose 140lbs and stay healthy and happy for myself, my hubby and most of all my daughter. I don't want her to lose her mummy before she's even a teenager. Thanks for reading  cheers

    Excess skin

i have some streatch marks on my lower belly but mostly it just expanded not too many marks on my upper belly  i guess i'll wait and see what happens :smile2: i'm paying enough for this to then pay for a TT won't be any time soon
  10. The cruise sails Dec 28 2011 returns Jan 2 Sooooo ok new years 2012.
  11. ohhhh no - not THIS new years. we are planning a 2011 New Years cruise not 2010. goodness i wouldn't even think 70lbs is doable for this new years. plus 140 is my total goal. i don't actually have a goal for the new years cruise. as long as i keep losing i'll be happy and when i reach 165-175 i'll buy new clothes as my reward. used to be a treat of the candy kind - guess i'm learning  thanks for your concern though i should have made myself more clear.

oh i know 2.5 months isn't instant - i'm meaning one day i'm this way the next i've had surgery and my life changes. thanks for the advice about the dishes - i wouldn't have thought of that. i'll have to go out and buy lunch plates and smaller bowls. it's totally a mindset thing - smaller plate smaller portions.

  14. I'm so happy i found this thread. I have just decided to go through this and am looking at dates in August since we are going away for the entire month of July. I'm reading all your stories and looking at your tickers. You have all done a wonderful job. I'm still reading posts from last august so i haven't come to your surgery dates but when i look and see how much weight you've all lost in just 8 months it's wonderful. congratulations to you all and i can't wait to keep reading and hearing how all the surgeries and post weeks went.
  15. i don't understand the preop liquid diet to shrink the liver. is it too close to the stomach to get the band on unless it's small? how big are livers anyways? can someone explane that one to me - thanks.
  16. thanks everyone. i called the dr office i'm doing it at and she said they don't suggest a specific "diet" for preop just high Protein low fat. a week before and no going all out on a "last chance brouhaha"

    calorie counters for your phone?apps.

Lance Armstrongs Livestronge site has an app too. it's really good because it not only keeps track of cals but fat, carbs etc. you put in how many cals per day you need and it lets you know all kinds of food including many many major restaurants like mickey d's, apple by's, and more.
  18. Hi, I'm very new here and have looked but can't figure out where to put this question so please move it if this is the wrong spot. I've decided to get the band done but not until August. we're going away for the month of July and having it done the second week of Aug would give me 3 weeks to recover before i have to head back to work in Sept. my problem is that my AF is very unpredictable because of my weight and i've never had surgery before so what happens if AF comes at the time of my surgery date? does this interfere with getting it done or do we just go ahead? sorry for the TMI and thanks for answering.
  19. I knew he would say ok if that's what you think is best but he's very supportive of my decision. - this is my younger one - haven't said anything to my older one yet. i talked to him last night and told him it's something i have to do and he might not understand (he's slim) he say no go for it if you think it's what's best - he has a friend who went to Mexico 2 years ago and is thrilled with his results. my brother even said if i need any help paying for it that he would do it no problem. i love my brother and i'm so happy he's behind me.

    Where is your port?

can you request where it goes? i wouldn't want it on my chest or shoulder the belly is the logical place.
  21. the one person i'm a little afraid to tell is my aunt in england. she's a dr (retired) and i just don't think i could handle a "just cut back on what you eat and don't eat sugar" speech (i actually don't know what she'd say) she's been concerned with my weight for years but i don't know how she'll react. i'm hoping to get banded in August and she's coming for a visit in September. not sure if i should talk to her on the phone before or just wait until she comes and tell her what i did. you don't owe anyone an explanation before or after your surgery - i find it very interesting that people think they have the right to tell you your wrong for doing somthing when it comes to weight but if you were a druggy or alcholic they'd applaud you for taking steps to become healthy.

    Pre-op diet kicking my butt!

hi, i've just decided to get the band and have just found this thread. hope you do well and hang in there but what drink are you talking about? is it like Ensure? i actually lived off them during my pregnancy (couldn't hold much down) or is it something else?

    Slimband?

Hi, I just had my first consultation with Silvanna at slimband. she's very nice but i'm very overwhelmed with all the info and reading so much on the boards. I thought i read last year that the procedure was going to be covered by our health card soon - i'm guessing it still isn't but does anyone know anything about OHIP covering the cost? i did read that they did cover some people if they went to the States to get it doen - seems counterproductive to send the money out of country instead of keeping everything here. i've got a lot of reading to do with all these threads.
  24. Hi Thanks for responding. I've looked at the slimband site but can't seem to find the forum section. i can only see the blog sections. I thought i read last year that the band might soon be covered by our health card but can't find anymore info on it. so i'm guessing that it's still not covered - is that right? what about these ads at the side that say $4200 for the band $5200 for the sleeve. Is the clinic down town the only place who do it or is it just the best place? i'm wondering why the difference between the $4200 and $16000 how much could i expect to loose once I get the band in?
  25. Hi everyone, Is this thread still active? I just had my first consultation yesterday in Toronto and have some questions but only if this thread is till going. :smile2::confused:
