    It's official

3 weeks - holy cow - that's the longest i've heard anyone has to do usually it's been 1-2 weeks - wow really hope it goes ok for you. 140 is what i want to lose too so this is good - we're only a month apart in surgery so we should be bandbuddies  the ensure was great for me. my morning sickness really was morning. i lost 35lbs in the first 6 months just from morning sickness. i actually liked them so i don't see having a problem. i did them from about 6 weeks until the day i went into labour so 8 months

well i can't start any sooner then a week before because we'll be on holiday and only return about 9 days before my surgery. however i don't have a specific diet that i have to follow - just high protine low fat. i'm also buying Ensure high protine drinks - i lived off them while i was pregnant because i couldn't hold down anything during the day except that. i already know what it tastes like and i'm fine with it as long as i add a little more milk to it to thin it out slightly good luck with yours. how much do you want to lose?

i made the mistake of reading a very nasty website last night - some fitness jerk going on and on about how lazy people who got weight loss surgery are and dozens of responses from people ageeing with him prazing him for calling out our lazy fat bottoms huge HUGE mistake. i got very upset. i'm the type who can hear 100 complements but only listen to the 1 negative. :tongue2: my mother always thought my stuburness would have overcome that but it didn't and apparently still hasn't the old demons reared up and i ended up eating 3 chocolate bars and toast before i realize how stupid i was being. GAUD i wish i hadn't seen that site.
  5. while i was surfing for information i came across this side from this fitness guy who basically says us losers who chose any form of weight loss surgery are just lazy over eaters who should shut our mouths and get off our butts. post after post from people praising this guy saying how right he was how we're just taking the easy way out. blah blah blah. the fighter in my wants to slap him for jumping to conclusions thinking everyone is just lazy and if we just stopped eating it's that simple but a larger part of me feels like i'm 6 years old again and my stupid teacher is saying everything i do is wrong i don't want to be a failure i do want to be healthy so what if i need help via the band who the hell is he to judge????? those insecure feelings are never far from the top and it doesn't take much to push them out :tongue2:

We have a very busy July ahead of us. Leave on the 3rd, taking the train (first time for dh, dd and myself) to Quebec City with my aunt for 7 days. Back for 4 days of what I expect will be no stop laundry LOL then off to Richmond VA, Savannah and hell - also known as Disney World. I say hell because i HATE HATE HATE the heat and we have wisely decided to go to Florida in the middle of the summer. not only that but we've included 7 days in what i have no doubt will be the busiest place on earth WDW. we've LOVE LOVE LOVE Disney and go every other to every other year but almost always in January. Our past 2 trips with dd have been in April and May so hot but not over 100 and when it was last year it wasn't packed so we weren't jammed in and hot. Then i'm back for only a week before my surgery. My guess is that i'll get the day of my surgery to "recover" then dd will want me to play with her non stop LOL i keep telling her when i find my energy in a few months I'll play until the cows come home. not only does she go looking for my energy but she brought me her toy cow and asked if that was good enough LOL.
  7. the Lap Band and Slim Band here in Toronto? I dont' see anyone talking about the Slimband but are they the same just different name?
  8. kurby

    Are they the same

ohhhhh - ok - so it's the lapband that is given to those going through Slimband?
  9. is this common? i've read a few threads where people are talking about eroded esophagas complications. is there a root cause or was it happening with the older bands?

    I'm here to help...

just a mini update. got a call from Slimband saying that all was set and I will be getting my preop package soon. I asked if it could be rushed since we're going away all of July and I'd only have a few days to get the blood work done and anything else they needed. she said she'd see what she could do to get it to me before we leave.
  11. I've been reading a lot of posts where people are talking about gas pain which i totally understand but why do so many have shoulder pain? what happens during surgery that your shoulder is sore?

thanks for the great advice. no i haven't read through all 700 plus pages :eek: but i'll give it a shot this week Oasis of the Sea - dh and i would LOVE to take a 7 nighter on her. Mighty Ships did their season premiere last week - 1 hour all on that ship and i just fell in love with it. We're total Disney fans - took our first cruise on the Wonder last mothers day and are planning a new years cruise in december 2011 but Oasis of the Sea is definitely one ship I'd love to do next. here i thought the "Freedom" would be our next ship - not now lol
  13. oh that actually makes more sense then what i thought. it would be great if my clinic provides help in the area of teaching how to eat properly like you guys do - should find that out next week. i'm really very bad at eating healthy. sugar, carbs, fat all the good stuff for taste i pretty much lived off of Ensure drinks while pregnant because i couldn't keep anything down. i found out they have a high protine version which i was thinking of taking the week before - though my dr doesn't require a liquid diet like you guys down there but i might do it just the same.
  14. kurby

    What About Bread????

why does it have to be toasted?
  15. i think its funny that you guys in the states have to lose weight before you get banded - if it were that easy to lose weight you wouldn't need to be banded. plus you have to do a psych evaluation - we don't have to do that up here - in fact i still haven't even told my family dr i'm doing this - prob won't until my next visit whenever that is. but it most definitely be after being banded. it's probably because we have to pay out of pocked for the procedure - which is very expensive up here - 16000. there's little wait time too - pretty much only 2 weeks but i'm doing it in August because we're going away for all of July and didn't want to have surgery just before my vacation - i'll use the month of Aug to get ready and recover before going back to work.

thanks for welcoming me. i'll start with a little bio I was 25 and went to the dr for what i thought was a routine check up. My regular dr was taking a year off for family so I had a stand in. She did some tests and wanted me to do more. I had been having some problems with my AF over the past year which was very unusual since you could set your clock by my 28 day 8am wake up call. When all was said and done this dr informed me that not only did i have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) but would probably never have children. This started me down the deep dark depression (3d's) path. For over 5 years I maintained a somewhat social life with my friends but never really wanted a relationship with anyone. I met Patrick in 2002 and when we got married in 2004 I was 100lbs over my early 20's weight. i was somewhat ok with it because i was quite thin in my early 20's but i was hoping to lose some. After the wedding we had made an appointment with a fertility specialist to see exactly what the problem was and if it could be fixed. Well apparently it could be fixed because 1 month later I was pregnant with Cassandra. i lost 30lbs then gained 75lbs and It's been 4 1/2 years since having Cassie and I haven't lost a single pound. In fact I've gained another 15lbs since last year. So.................... Recently I've decided to go for the very expensive Slimband/Lapband surgery. It's a huge step and not an easy out by any means. After years and years of diets that fail I just don't have the energy anymore to get motivated. I want to be healthy for my daughter and if possible have another child which just isn't happening at this weight. My goal. To lose 140lbs. I will say that at 5'8" I will look great if I lose the 140lbs. I've called the slimband clinic and scheduled an August 12th appointment. We are going away for the entire month of July so August is the earliest I can do this. And that's me in a nut shell - some days it's the nut house ok most days it's the nut house.
  17. my dh and i have been trying for 4 years to have a second child and i'm pretty sure it's not happening because i'm so overweight (65lbs since our wedding and getting pg with dd) i'm hoping that after being banded on Aug 12 that in about a year we can become pregnant again but how will that effect the band? will it have to be removed and replaced or just empty with the baby grows does it effect the band when the stomach gets all squished up anyone get pg after being banded? thanks
  18. Last week I booked my appointment for my surgery on Aug 12. it seems like my brain has said - "oh crap you better get in all the carbs you can now" the last few days i've been craving carbs like never before. i've always been a carb freak. bread, Cereal, bread... did i say bread??? i could live of it - well not exactly but you know what i mean. after recovery do the cravings go away or will this always be a huge battle for me?? i hope not because i eat them now without even thinking. i find myself at 10pm making toast and before i know it i'm saying - wow i didn't even realize i'm doing it or did it.

    I'm here to help...

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to this site. Just got my surgery date from August 12 and looking for a buddy. how does this all work? is it an online thing or do people buddy up with others in their city so they can meet in person? I live in Toronto and don't expect too many Canadians on an American site but it would be great to buddy up with someone else in Toronto. I'm 42, married, mother of a very energetic 4 1/2 year old girl, looking to lose about 150lbs with help from the Slimband.
  20. wow - it's a good thing it was caught when it was - sorry you're going through that. - it must be frustrating. you have to pay for each fill? is it different in the states or does it depend on the dr? up here we pay a fortune to get the band but then the fills are included (at least for the first 4 years - not sure what happens after that.)
  21. i did. i was 250 when i got married and pg a few months later. i had horrible morning sickness from 6 weeks to the day she was born, lost 30lb in the first and second trimester but gained it all back plus another 20 lb in the third. after i gave birth i lost 20 lb in about 3 weeks but then from then til i finished nursing at 18 months i gained about 40lbs. my friends had me convinced that nursing would have the lbs melting away but it didn't i let dd cut herself off and i'm very very happy we lasted so long i just wish my friends were right. my fear is getting banded (aug 12) losing weight and getting pg again. with all the morning sickness i had what happen if the band slips while i'm pg?
  22. wow - good to know thanks all for the info. is there anything that helps easy the pain? heating pads, walking streatching? do these work or are you pretty much stuck with it for a week
  23. oh that's interesting. i thought the dr would have removed as much of the gas as he could so ppl aren't in discomfort guess you can't remove it all
  24. no i don't have any pain - i'm not getting banded until August 12th i just can't figure out why so many people post banding have shoulder pain.
