Interesting US Bariatric Surgery Statistics
I need to update my info here. But I just had my band removed and revised to sleeve June 25th. I see more and more band removals and less bands being placed. I hope they remove bands from the market completely. So far my sleeve is everything my band was supposed to be. And so much happier.

Larger sleeve after Lapband?
I asked my surgeon just before going into surgery June 25 if I would get a nice tight sleeve. He said he would get it tight just like anyone that never had a band. I can tell he got it small. I love this sleeve and so glad that band and port no longer control my life. I asked my surgeon just before going into surgery June 25 if I would get a nice tight sleeve. Lap Band The Right Choice?
I don't understand why your doctor is against the band. I lost all of my weight plus some (115 pounds) in 11 months. I am almost 2 1/2 years out and stabilized with 10 pounds back on. It is definitely work, but I would do this again.

What To Do When Food Gets Stuck?
I was stuck today. In a restaurant bathroom for almost an hour while my kids and mother sat at the table. I slimed, ate papaya tablets and my mom brought me hot wate. As soon as it flushed through I was good as new. Chew and eat SLOW.

Lost About 100Lbs Then Gained It All Back Plus Some So Depressed
It will take time. And adjustments to cut hunger. I am 2 years post op and can't keep the weight off. I have started gaining since working out. I drink Body Form and that's really helping with hunger.

Are Any Of You Bipolar???
I take wellbutrin, it's one of the only that actually helps lose weight not gain it. I wouldn't take ability, my son does and it is a weight gaining drug and it increases blood sugar.

I Can't Drink While Eating. Is That Normal??
This was a rule that I started using before I had surgery so I could get used to it. I lost weight just by changing that alone. I think it is a great thing for EVERYONE to follow. I hate that I was always told on weight watchers and other diets to drink a bunch of Water with your meals to help with hunger. It NEVER helped with hunger because it flushed everything out of my stomach. I have been below my original goal weight for almost a year now and this is the first time I have been able to maintain more than a month after losing weight. Good luck.

I Can't Drink While Eating. Is That Normal??
Stephyanders thanks for the video. That is something all doctors should demonstrate at their seminars.

I Can't Drink While Eating. Is That Normal??
With a Lap-band you are not supposed to drink with your meals at all. That is a big no-no! U are to stop drinking 30 minutes before a meal and not again until 30-60 minutes after.

Minnesota Banders??
That's really cool you are so close! I have a now EX best friend because she had gained a lot of weight while I was losing it and she started distancing herself from me and just got plain mean towards me. I never expected that to happen because I have had some thin years before but something always happened and I gained all the weight back. I think some people see banded people losing the weight and taking control of their lives and it hits them in the face with the reality that they are actually losing control. It's pretty sad. But I love to know there are other people ready to support others while getting the support at the same time. I look forward to making a new friend!

Minnesota Banders??
I am in Hopkins, MN. I don't have any banded friends and it's hard when everyone else is living my pre-band lifestyle. I am always looking for more friends and support. Welcome!

Any Bi-polar (or Other Mental Illness) Lap Banders?
My doctor gave me 2 small pills of wellbutrin and now I am back to the 1 big pill again. I also went off my mood stabilizer about 8 months ago and I am doing just fine. I lost all of my 115 lbs in 11 months. I am struggling with maintenance and have put 7 lbs back on over the last 6 months. But my bipolar diagnosis has been changed to depression with anxiety and ocd. Good luck.

Anybody With Manic Depression/bipolar Been Banded?
I was diagnosed bipolar 5 years ago. I took wellbutrin and geodon. Had Lap-band may 25, 2010. My psychiatrist told me to try going off my geodon and let him know how it goes. I have been off it now for at least 8 months now and only on wellbutrin. He has now changed my diagnosis to just depression and ocd with anxiety. So no longer considered bipolar. I think just feeling better about myself, eating better, and exercising helped me a ton. Good luck!

Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
and i am "normal"! people have foreign objects placed everyday in hip replacements shunts, etc, it is not normal to not have your stomach or to have your intestines rerouted. i have a friend that had the sleeve and she has gag reflex issues because of the surgery, i eat way more normal than she does and i will stress again i am in maintenance and she is still not at goal and we had surgery a month apart.

Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
oh and for the record i can eat a kids meal not just 2 bites. and i can eat anything =i want BUT i CHOOSE not to. until u have the band u really cant say what really happens.

Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
i dont go to the dr every month for an adjustment either. i am in the green zone and have been since april and also since april 20 lbs BELOW my drs goal for me. i am not sure where u got your information but the poch in a sleeve CAN stretch, the band can be adjusted. the gherlin hormone that is a normal body functioning hormone that u need for balance is removed with the sleeve BUT your body eventually figures out how to replace it and then it comes back stronger than before. there is only a window of opportunity called the honeymoon period with the sleeve and rny of about 18 months, there is NO honeymoon period with the band because it is adjustable. this is straight out of a bariatric doctor's mouth at my clinic support groups. and i dont want to seem nasty but i am only out a year and half with my band and i have been below goal since 11 mon.ths, and the wo men with the sleeve and rny in my group out years are still NOT at goal.

Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
- Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
I chose the band because it wasnt going to be a surgery where my body parts were removed or rearranged. and if anything happened it was reversible and then if i couldnt keep my band i could then have a different procedure if needed. i have been at my clinic support groups and heard horror stories about leaks and infections after those other surgeries. ultimately it is up to u though, it is your body and it will also be up to you to decide how much maintenance u are willing to do. the b and has more maintenance probably but that to me is a good thing, it keeps me in check and i think i am more intune with my body because i have to figure out when and if i need adjustments. good luck! dont make a hasty decision if u already had your mind set on the band. - Lap Band vs. Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Gastrectomy
