    Exercise

My doc told me to walk around the house as much as possible to keep circulation going and prevent blood clots. She told me I could start walking/light jog after two weeks post op. Only do what you can tolerate right now. Your body is healing and you don't want to over do it and hurt yourself. Take care!

    Exercise Goals #4

So far this week I have done 252 minutes with one day left. I have noticed that I have been losing more weight since I started exercising. This is exercise week #11 for me. I notice that if I slip up on my diet occasionally, the exercise helps me to not gain and still lose weight. Monkeymama and Froggie- you may not notice the numbers on the scale moving cuz you are building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Keep up the great work!

    Nurse Bandsters?

I'm currently an LPN and have been for nine years. I am in my fourth semester (part time) going for my RN. I got this surgery because I was tired of always being afraid that someone would make a comment about my weight. I work with older ppl and they weren't as quiet about telling me how big my butt was or how heavy I was. I went to work today and one of my residents said that I was really getting thin...it was a great feeling! Good luck on your weight loss journey Rk!!!!
  4. Went for my second fill today. I'm down 33.5 pounds since surgery (may 13). My nurse practitioner said that I was "cruisin" along with my weight loss. That made my day! I am so glad I had this surgery done! I had been depressed for years because I just couldn't get the weight off. It feel like finally I have control on it! Thanks for listening guys! :wink2:

    Upmc

I just checked your profile BandedKraut and saw that your surgeon is Dr. Hamad. Is he in with Dr. Courcoulas cuz that name sounds familiar?

    Upmc

I was banded at UPMC Magee hospital on May 13 2010. Dr. Courcoulas did my surgery. So far, I've lost 31 pounds since my surgery and I'm doing good. Have you been banded yet BandedKraut? If not good luck to you! Who is/did your surgery? Looks like you are doing very well with your weight loss! Shadena...Good luck with your surgery! Who is doing your band? It's nice to see ppl that are close to me!

What is your favorite non carbonated beverage?

I LOVE iced tea. I buy the unsweetened kind and use splenda. Crystal light is good too.

    I cheated! Please help! :(

I think you are going to be fine! Just make sure you stay on track until your surgery. My doctor didn't put me on a liquid diet before surgery, only after. The only order I had was to be NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight the night before my surgery. Even though I had no instructions to follow as far as diet, I still counted calories, but there were a couple of days that I cheated. I did fine during my surgery and so will you! Good luck!

    100 lbs!!!

    Congratulations!!!!!!!

    No liquids with meals

My surgeon told me the same as luv2eats surgeon...I can drink till I eat then wait 30 minutes to drink anything after I eat. Luv2eat I think practicing not eating and drinking together is brilliant!!! This was the hardest thing for me to get used to!

    Exercise Goals #3

Went to the wavepool yesterday and now I'm burnt to a crisp! Gonna take the next couple of days off of exercising cuz of the pain. Planning to get moving again on Monday! Good luck everyone!

    What will you miss???

Getting banded is not about completely giving up foods you love. It's about learning to have them very occasionally and in moderation. I have been banded since May 13. Most days, I still count calories and watch what I eat. I drink Water or sugar free beverages. It's amazing how many calories are wasted in soft drinks! I have to admit that I have days where I eat things that I love and I still have an OCCASIONAL sweet tea. Bambam is so right about the band not getting rid of cravings. They are always there. Once the weight started falling off, I found the cravings easier to control. I will say that one thing I do miss is an occasional root beer cuz carbonated beverages are a definite no no!

    Exercise Goals #3

Hey guys! I increased my walking goal to 250 minutes a week. So far this week I've walked 251 with one more day to go! I feel so much better when I exercise. Froggie- I'm glad that you're foot is feeling better! It's frustrating when you can't exercise cuz you're hurt. Just make sure to be careful so you don't injure yourself! Monkeymama- Glad you're tummy is better!

    They Fit!!! NSV

    Congrats Monkeymama!!!!!!
  16. jllybean1982

    I gained 1lb

TRUST ME when I tell you this is normal Kelley! It's HORRIBLY frustrating, but it's normal. I was banded May 13. I lost 13 pounds the first week, but then NOTHING for three weeks! I did everything I was supposed to do, but the scale didn't budge. People would tell me that my body was trying to heal, but I didn't want to hear it. They were right though! I am now down 25 pounds. The thing that really helped the scale start moving for me was exercise. Don't give up Kelley! The weight WILL come off!

    Got my 1st Fill!

Keep up the good work Stacy!
  18. I have been banded since May 13 and have only had one painful episode when eating. It makes you become more aware that you really have to chew your food. Jachut...I know exactly what you're saying. When I go out with friends and they have the appetizers, the meal, and then dessert..then there's me with half my meal or less, no appetizer and no dessert..I get kind of sad. I would not however change it for anything either! What I miss most is having my iced tea with my meals. It's still kind of weird not drinking and eating at the same time.

    Had my first fill today!

Hey guys! I just had to say that I had my first fill today and was scared to death...for NOTHING! It didn't hurt AT ALL! I just wanted to post this because I know that there are alot of ppl that worry about their fill, me included. Good luck everyone!

    Had my first fill today!

Janica I was really scared to get my fill. Believe me when I tell you, it was nothing. I couldn't sleep the night before because I was so nervous! You'll be okay! Don't have any tattoos, but I do have my nose and tragus pierced. Those were much worse than my fills, especially my tragus!

    Had my first fill today!

Hey Crabby! I'm so glad you said that! The first few days after my fill I had restriction. After that, I do feel like I can eat more than before my fill. I am still losing, but I really have to watch my calories. My next fill is August 12. It's tough with my work schedule cuz my doctor's assistants are only available Thursdays and Fridays. I'm down 25 pounds since surgery too! Nice job!

    set back :(

I'm so upset. I have been walking 3 miles 5-6 days a week and really enjoy it. Well, this past week, my right hip started hurting and now it's to the point where I can hardly lift it up. I'm thinking I have tendonitis in my right hip. I have a doctors appt tomorrow. My surgeon says I cant take any NSAIDS so I am taking Tylenol right now. My surgeon said that I need to rest for a bit or at least decrease the amount I walk and only walk on level surfaces, no hills. It just feels like I have been doing so well and now a set back. Thanks for listening! I'm just really upset!
  23. jllybean1982

    Had my first fill today!

Nina- you're not failing at all! you have lost 20 pounds!!! That is not an easy task! It will get better. I was banded May 13. I went through three weeks where I didn't lose anything. Exercise really helped get the scale moving! Hang in there, but don't feel like a failure!
  24. jllybean1982

    Had my first fill today!

Hang in there Nina, you'll get there!!! I haven't made the best food choices this week while being on vacation, but I definitely feel restriction since my fill! I'm ready to get back on track and make better choices. When did you get banded? Good luck Fluffy! Hope you feel some restriction! It is nice to have some restriction because it helps manage how much you eat which is nice! I'm eating about less than half of what I used to.
  25. jllybean1982

    set back :(

Thanks for the support guys! Cocoa, my surgeon said no NSAIDS because there are so many GI side effects. Honestly, before I called her though, I had already taken Advil. It didnt seem to do much though. It is a really good idea to try to work other areas of the body until my hip heals! I also like the water aerobics idea Leigha! Thanks again guys!
