  1. I have had thyroid disease since I was 15 yrs old. I am hypothyroid as I had my thyroid removed surgically. My endo told me as I lost weight she would most likely reduce my thyroid medication. I had a check with her recently and have lost 30 pds and I am more hypo than I was before the weight loss. I have decided to keep my meds the same for the time being and recheck again in 2 mths. As you lose weight typically you should need a lower dose of thyroid medication. This thyroid business had a mind of it's own and can be quite fickle at times.

  2. Ironically I got "stuck" in Vegas myself, eating tender beef!! My son was married there September 24th and I guess with the excitement, stress and weather change (I am a east coast girl) I got stuck. Fortunately for me it passed on its own and I did not have to go to an ER. I did for the remainder of the trip eat mainly Soup. So glad it turned out okay for you in the end.

This band is so moody or maybe I am, LOL. Somedays I can eat a half of a turkey sandwhich on a low carb bread and other days not tolerate bread, eggs, or low carb Pasta at all.

Since this has happened to me though I am paranoid when eating out!!!

  3. I know how you feel. My surgery was March also and I have lost 31 pounds. But, I am learning that is just the way my body looses. Slow & steady wins the race.

My doc is conservative with the fills as well. One of their reasons is so you can adapt to the changes in how you need to eat. It is definitely a learning process. You are doing great.

  4. I saw my Endo last Monday. She was excited that I had lost 31 pds since my surgery the end of March 2011. She told me as she was ordering my labs I will probably have my synthroid lowered, because as you lose you need less meds. So she called me today and says she is confused. My TSH is higher than it has been (reminder I no longer have a thyroid) and she was expecting to lower my dosage not increase. She is leaving it to me to stay on my current dose or go with a higher dose to lower my TSH or wait about 8 weeks and repeat the test. I am so confused.

Also, my son's wedding was this past week in Vegas. The entire time I was there I could hardly eat and got stuck twice! I ended up ordering Soup, ALOT which concerned my husband. Argh! I am thinking it was nerves and climate change. I am an East Coast Girl and not accustomed to the climate in Las Vegas. I did not gain any weight while in Vegas nor did I lose. This band is the most confusing, tempermental thing I have ever dealt with. At times I feel too tight and other times like I need a fill. Anyone else feel this way?

I was going to insert a pic of my son and his beautiful bride but I do not know how. Hope everyone is doing well.

  5. Has anyone else noticed they are forgetting more things? I am only 30 yo and I had surgery 2/28/11. I am down about 30lbs but can't get over the plateau. I do have low thyroid activity but not perscribed anything for it. I swear there must be something to this because I have always been known for my ability to recall old information. What do I do, I think it is starting to show at work!!!!

PS: my grandma died of alzheimers at 93 so I'm a little concerned.... no a LOT concerned

    I feel/live your pain!

  6. I am abt 70 miles inland right now and we are getting some heavy rain and winds. Worried about my Atlantic Beach home, as I am seeing alot of flooding pics on the news. Power going in and out.

I bought a box of Kashi Go Lean Crunch, which I love to eat dry and I have some individual size cans of tuna and chicken. I had my appt. with my nutrionist and she reminded me to eat more textured foods. I love yogurt, but she wants that texture added to it, such as granola or some Kashi. Keeping a daily food journal has really made me accountable.

  7. I feel your pain. I have had four fills since my surgery March 31, 2011. I have lost 25 pds post op. My doc has been putting in 1cc per visit. My last fill was 08/16/2011 and I still do not feel like I am in my green zone, getting close though. My surgeon has left the practice and I saw a different doc last time. He gave me 1cc then told me to come back in 4 months for another follow up??? So frustrating.

  8. Thanks Ladies! He just made me feel like a band failure and I am only 4 mths into this journey. When I check with the other March 2011 bandsters I am behind what most of them are losing. I know this experience is different for everyone and will be for me. I know I can lose this weight, but it will be in my body's time schedule. I really had myself stressed out about this last night and could hardly sleep.

Any of you also have fibromyalgia? Some days I skip the exercise because of this and go straight to bed when I get off work. This man has really got me down and I have to get my mojo back.

I made an appointment with my nutritionist so she can review my food diary and another one with my counselor.

  9. He doesn't just sound like an ass, he was an ass. I have not seen any posts on this site where someone state they excercised that much. I just have to decide how I want to proceed with my post op care. I was banded 03/31/2011 and have had 3 post op visits and have lost 23 pds. and he tells me to come back in 4 mths. I am paying a $70.00 copay each visit. So it is not like I am being seen for no fee. I am really disappointed and just want this to work for me. :(

Everything I have read concerning follow up after lapband states:

Follow-up visits are usually scheduled every 6 weeks for the year following the surgery for lap band fills (adjustments) and overall health exams. After that year has passed the individual is encouraged to visit his/her doctor every three months for check-ups throughout the next two years. During the follow-up visits the doctor will check on how the patient has been doing with their Lap-Band and whether there are any issues that have arisen which cause the patient to have questions.

He sounds like an Ass****! I'm glad I do not have him to deal with.

    Sherry.

  10. As you may recall my doctor is no longer with the practice. I was asked, if I wanted to follow my doctor or be assigned a new doctor in the practice. I chose that practice due to it’s Center of Excellence standards and based on several recommendations. So, I elected to stay with the practice and switch to a new doctor.

I met my new doc for the first time today and was not impressed. He asked me if I had seen the commercial with him in it, with one of his lapband patients. He then goes on to say that in a year’s time she had met her goal. She did this by going to the gym two times a day, seven times a week! Pardon my language here but, this man if is full of sh@#! If we all went to the gym twice daily seven days a week and ate the small portions we are eating now, we would not need a lapband. He was reluctant to give me a fill, even though he did and told me to follow up in 4 months! He also wants me to start doing push ups! He says my 1.5 miles walks and 3 mile bike rides were not enough.

I am just so frustrated right now!

  11. Wow Shirley, so glad your doc was wrong!

I work in an eye doctors office and we had a patient come in last week, slurred speech, slightly drooping mouth and blurred vision. We were abt 99.9% sure she had a stroke. We wanted to call an ambulance and she refused, saying she was going to wait a few days to see if she improved.

BTW, I got stuck today, but that is not nearly as bad as your day. LOL.....Just glad you are ok!

  12. i have had hypothyroidism for almost 15 years...I had my surgery 13 months ago and I am down 148 pounds. My low acting thyroid has not slowed my weightloss down so far. I have 32 left to lose to reach my goal. I hope that it doesn't decide to kick in now! Have faith...I am one success story of someone with hypo!

That is awesome! I will be so glad when I am finally in my green zone and not feeling hungry all the time. I was banded 03/31/2011 and so far lost 20pds, which I feel like was by starvation. Can you share what portion sizes and foods you eat on a typical day and are you excercising?

I have had thyroid disease for more than 30 yrs.

    Again, Congratulations!

  13. That's awesome Shirley! I am down about 20 pds. I have 3cc in my 10cc band and believe I am ready for a small fill, as I feel hungry after about 2 hrs. I called the doc's office today and find out my surgeon has left the practice. Now I am all stressed about my next fill appointment (August 16th) and the fact I have to get used to another doc. Seems like it is always something.

Also, my son is getting married the end of September in Las Vegas. I will be flying from NC to Vegas and was wondering what flight experiences any of you have had with the lapband.
