  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. I appreciate it.

My "stuck" episode was pain in the chest, followed by slimming and then some throw up. This the 1st time I had this happen. I didn't really think that it would ever happen to me, but it did! I don't care to repeat it again right away I do know that!

I appreciate all of the support we have on here.

  2. I'm recovering now from what my doctor believes is a stuck episode. My pain started in my side then seemed to spread across my whole stomach. Although the worst has passed, I still have a slight tightness in the upper abdomen. I've suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for years, and since I've been terribly constipated since my banding (Dec. 30), I think it may have been a combo stuck-episode/IBS flare.

In any case, my surgeon said definitely go on liquids for a couple of days to let things settle. That seems to be helping.

  3. I am in no means a qualified medical professional but I'll be glad to share with you my limited knowledge. After my first stuck episode (it was chicken that was just a little too dry) I was so scared to actually eat again. I spoke to the nurse at my dr's office and she suggested taking it easy for a few days. I stuck to liquids and mostly soft foods for a few days (3-4) to give my stomach a chance to heal. She mentioned that when you get stuck based on the severity there may be a bit of swelling or irritation inside the band. By the end of the week I was good to go and much more particular about what I ate and how long I chewed it. Lesson learned for sure! Have only been stuck once more in the 3 years I've been banded. This was just my experience and as we all know everybody is different. If you're not sure a call to your dr. might not be a bad idea. Good luck!

  4. So, I got my rite of passage today as a bandster. I had my first stuck episode. I kept saying I needed to learn my lesson so today I did. I had a craving for Chinese food so I got a small order to go, got it home, took a few bites and felt it. It was a NASTY experience, one I don't care to repeat. My craving for Chinese food is gone now!!

Anyways, I was wondering if there is a post stuck diet requirement. Do you return to liquids/purees following this? I have no interest in eating at the moment (since it literally just occurred a few hours ago), but would like to know what I'm suppose to do tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help/advice.

    Banded 5/13/10

  5. Thanks everyone for the replies.

I had a fill appointment today and asked my dr. about this topic. He also stated that it is an adjustment for the lifestyle change and yes, before the lifestyle change, I would over indulge with all of those things that aren't good for us. He also said it probably is still early in the process and hopefully things will seem better in the future.

So....until then... guess I will just try to hang in there.

  6. I was banded May 13, 2010 so it really hasn't been that long. I have noticed that I am WAY grumpier during PMS than I was pre-band. Has anyone else noticed this? Any thoughts on how to curtail this? It just doesn't seem like I have any control on how I am during this time and I really don't like it! It is not doing favorable things for various relationships all around.

    Any thoughts would be great!

    Thanks.

  7. I wish you the best! I am personally going through the same things right now. Our relationship has had many downs already so I'm not sure if it can survive more, but I am feeling so much better about myself now and refuse to suppress my emotions with food (and excess weight) any more. It feels good to stand up for myself now. It is quite stressful though. Trying to find other positive outlets to help. Exercise is great (never thought I'd say those words!).

  8. I totally can relate to your post. I am a little over a month out and I experienced the things that you referred to. It truly is a period of mourning to some degree because you have given up some of your comforts. I have also heard that the effects of the anethesia kick in about 5 days out so you may be experiencing that as well.

It was hard to get through it, but I got through it and YOU can too!! What I did was try to find something else that I enjoyed doing. In my case, I picked up reading a book.

When the weight loss starts kicking in, things will get better I promise! I am starting to enjoy seeing myself in the mirror these days and I have so much more energy to enjoy time with my boys.

You are in a period of recovery now. Take deep breaths in and out. You will make it. Keep your eye on the prize. Maybe you should go out and buy a new, smaller outfit that you hope to get into in the future.

Be gentle on yourself during this time. It is a whole new life opened up to you!!

  9. Ok, I have to ask since I have experienced this a few times now.

Just wondering if any of you have had the experience of the port tightening/cramping during periods of "intimate" moments if you know what I mean. I really thought "intimate" times would be better now, but they really aren't! It is actually quite painful.

Thanks for any advice/thoughts you have.

  10. Hi Prat72,

I am scheduled the same day and feel the same things you do! I also have the "no current health concerns," but my mom and dad both have diabetes and my mom just got put on insulin shots.

I have thought the same things you have. "What am I going to eat after the recovery period?, etc, etc." The head of our support group brought me back down to reality though and made the simple statement, "You will eat again." By hearing others say that they can pretty much eat anything, just in healthier portions has also helped tremendously.

I realize that although I have lost 25 lbs. pre-op I most likely would not keep it off long-term on my own and of course I have plenty more I would like to get rid of. I feel so much better already just losing this 25 lbs. I can play longer with my boys and that is worth it all to me!

It has been a hectic time period leading up to this upcoming Thursday, but BOTH of us can do this!!

    I wish you much success.
