  1. Get over it. You can't do anything about it now. But, you know now that you need to be prepared with your protein bars/shakes in the future. Also, another thing you could do is tell your friends, you have dinner plans but will meet them for drinks. Go get your band-approved dinner at home and then grab drinks after. You live, you learn. Its not gonna kill you. Hang in there.
  2. Great question. I'd love to know the answer to this as well. I was banded on April 29, no fill yet. On the full liquid diet, I was drinking only 400 kcal per day. I've finally advanced to purees and mashed foods but am still on very few cals. I don't know what will happen when I get my fill in a few weeks. I would love to have a kcal goal to work towards each day to ensure I'm losing optimum weight without going into starvation mode.
  3. Hey there! Got my band on April 29. I had my first pureed/mashed foods today and I feel like a new woman. I'm thankful that the hunger pangs are subsiding. I had some very thin mashed potatoes and this evening a little hummus and avocado. I'm SO happy to have real food. Anyone else have the weird digestion feeling after eating? I feel every morsel going down my digestive track. It doesn't hurt, just feels weird. Almost like growling. I'm looking forward to my fill and to pumping up the exercise beyond just walking. Good luck to everyone.
  4. I was informed that I confused Beverly Hills Surgeons with Top Surgeons. Please disregard my previous message. And, thanks to the person who sent me the message.
  5. I think it does get better. I 'm two weeks post op now and the burps are definitely better - but the first week was rough...they hurt SO badly. So, give it a little time, and you should start to feel better soon.
  6. I seriously don't think I can make it another 11 days on this liquid diet. After the first 7 days, I was so hungry I begged my doctor to move me up to soups and yogurt. That worked for a few days but now, I'm tired of the soups and yogurt also and ready for something more substantial. How did you guys get through the 3 weeks on the liquid diet? Any tips, tricks, ideas? I'm basically eating only 400-500 calories a day. I'm lethargic and starved all the time and my doctor wants me on liquids for 3 weeks before moving to the pureed foods. This seems a little extreme. I welcome any thoughts. Thanks.
  7. Hi There - I read Lost and Found: A Guide To The LAP-BAND Journey by Dr. Nirmal Jayaseelan and Cynthia Jones O'Kelly. I thought it was okay. It definitely gave me a lot of information and answered many of the questions I had. There are a number of other books out there but I found this one to be fairly comprehensive. It's about $20 and I ordered it on Amazon.com. I provided the link. Good luck!

  9. I had my surgery 11 days ago and I still haven't had a bowel movement. I would think it was weird except that I'm only having liquids. Is this something I should be concerned about? I'm taking benefiber but it hasn't worked yet. Any advice?

    question

Hey there - Congrats on your banding! Honostly, it seems like each persons surgeon and program is a little different with regards to how many days post-op to remain on liquids. I'm on liquids for three weeks, others two weeks. But, 10 days seems a little soon for eggs and chicken salad. You should check with your doctor and see what they advise - and I wouldn't deviate from it. Think about all the work we did to get banded, you would hate to have an episode that would require fixing the damaged band or worst case, redoing the band. With that said, I would absolutely go to the picnic but maybe bring a few things you can eat/drink. Your favorite hot soup in a thermos or some yogurt and crystal light packets. Just come prepared for it and have a great time.
  11. Thanks all for the feedback, appreciate it. I have absolutely no problem passing gas. Doing it ALL the time, between the burps and other stuff. I'm off of the pain meds and just sitting around waiting for a BM. haha! No pain really, its just so strange. Maybe I will just check in with doctor, since it's now been 12 days. But, at least it wasn't 6 weeks like Racer said! That's intense. I'll call today and keep y'all posted. Stay tuned.
  12. Hey Kerby - How's it going? So, I had my follow-up appointment today with my doctor. Good news, I lost 6 lbs; Bad news, I have to stay on the clear liquids. However, illuminationlady was totally right. I begged my doctor for a few more foods and told him that I was starving and may die from malnurishment if I didn't eat and he allowed me yogurt and some creamed soups (dramatic, I know, but needed to stress the urgency). I had them this afternoon and evening and feel like a totally different person. I feel SO much better, have more energy and finally don't feel starved. So, definitely ask about the yogurt and creamy soups when you go in for your post-op. Glad to hear your port site is still hurting a bit too (misery loves company). I found out today that mine is the low-profile port so I can't really feel it. But, geez, it is SORE. Everyone says it will get better, so hang in there. WE CAN DO IT!!!
  13. I had my surgery at Cedars. My surgeon was Dr. Nishi. He is fantastic. I had a friend who had Dr. Khalili. Cedars is definitely a process - a bit of a pain - but stick with it. The people are all really nice, they seem to make the process more complicated than it needs to be. Also, be prepared for LOTS of meetings and appointments. Stay committed to the program and you will get there. I never missed an appointment and was very dedicated to the process and from initial information seminar to surgery was less than 3 months. Good luck! :bored:
  14. P.S., how's the port site. Mine is still KILLING me!!! Very sore and tender. Just wondering if you're feeling te same since we both had surgery on the same day.
  15. Hi Kerby - I'm also 6 days post-op and in the EXACT same positon. No problem getting liquids down, STARVING all the time and starting to go a bit crazy. Hang in there. Luckily, I have a drs appt tomorrow so I find out what the next step in the food process is. I'm praying for eggs, fish, Beans, oatmeal, etc. If its any help, I spoke with the Drs office today and they said it is perfectly normal but said to stay with the liquids to give your band time to heal. We can do it!!!!
