Kaiser Richmond Pre-op
Hey Ali thanks for thinking of me.. I am doing better, I still have bad days but not as many. I have more energy, but still get tired easily. My biggest problem is just getting enough food in, I still only get about 1/4 cup of dense protien in. If I eat soup or something less dense I can maybe get in 1/3 cup. does that sound about right for 9 weeks out? Hope to meet you on Saturday Sherri

white tongue, NOT THRUSH, any ideas?
Thanks Sparkle I have read several articles on ketosis, I don't think that is it because they all say it only lasts for about a week. I have had this for over a month. I will look into buying some ketosis stix to check though. Thanks again

white tongue, NOT THRUSH, any ideas?
I have had a white coating on my tongue for over a month now. My Dr gave me medicine for oral thrush and also what they call magic mouthwash and nothing has helped. she said she does not know what it is and if it does not cause me any pain then not to worry. She did suggest I email my bariatric surgeon to see if it has to do with my surgery. Still waiting for an answer. just wondering if anyone else here has had this problem, i am around 9 weeks out from surgery. Thanks

how soon did you try alcohol?
I am going to Vegas next month and I will be about 2 1/2 months out from surgery by then. I would love to be able to have a drink socially here and there, but I don't want to harm my tummy. has anyone tried it that soon and if so was it ok? Thanks Sherri

Struggle to get in enough protein
I am 7 weeks out and I can barely eat 1/4 cup of food three times a day. I actually just sent a message to my surgeon about not getting in enough Protein He said it is not something to worry about, that peoples concerns on that are misguided I get maybe 15-20 grams at most in a day. I do sprinkle unflavored Protein powder on my food when I can tolerate it.. I hope this helps some.. just wanted to let you know, you're not alone. :-)

Post-operative pain - is this normal?
Hi It's normal. I had that hot sharp pain for about 4 weeks. It was mostly in my biggest incision, which is my lower right side. I am 7 weeks out and I still get a twinge here and there but it is for the most part gone. Hang in there, and ask for more pain medication if you need it.. I did.. Take care Sherri

Questions to ask a surgeon
This information came from user TIffykins Here's some questions to ask your surgeon: 1) How many sleeves have you performed? 2) How many leaks, major complications, deaths (with all bariatric surgeries)? 3) Leak stats, most surgeons should have less than or equal to 1%. 4)What size bougie do you use? 5) What type of aftercare do you offer? Labs pulled when? How many follow up appointments can you expect? 6)Will you have access to a nutritionist? 7) Does he have any patients that have provided testimonials that you could read or contact them for personal experience? 8) How many nights in the hospital? 9) How many leak tests? Hope this helps.. good luck Sherri

Please tell me your BMI and Bougie Size
I started with a BMI of 45, surgery day 40. my surgeon used a 34, but he said that is what he uses for everyone, he felt 32 is too small

is this just my luck or have others gone through the same? I am a little over 5 weeks post op, I am in the soft food stage. I am nauseous morning noon and night. I throw up occasionaly and can barley get in 1/4 cup of food. I take in less then 300 calories a day and feel terrible. I get in about 30oz of water.. I have oral thrush now too, which makes everything taste bad. I have never had this before and even with medicine it's not going away (been about 2 weeks) I feel depressed a lot now and feel like I will always be this way.. The Dr. said I could feel this way for another couple months, I just don't know how I am going to manage, I can barely function at work I am so tired and nauseous. has anyone else felt this way ???? p.s was at the meeting on Saturday but did not get the chance to say hi afterwards. only person I recognized was John. Hopefully will meet some folks at the next one thanks for listening Sherri

Hi Everyone, just wanted to check in. I can't say my recovery has been smooth. I am not having stomach spasams anymore, but my problem is I can barely eat or drink anything. I feel full after about 1/8 cup or less of anything, and the full feeling lasts for 3-4 hours making it hard to drink. I feel weak and tired all the time. I have been out of the house a few times and get tired so fast I actually hesitate to eat because I know how bad I will feel after. I am begining to wonder if I will ever be able to eat somewhat normal again I am 3 1/2 weeks post op, and looking for any words of encouragement, or anyone who has had similar problems and made it past them. Thanks for listening Sherri

What do I do?
as far as being dehydrated I would go to the Dr, they might give you IV fluids to get you back up to where you should be. for the BM's, I am still on full liquids and am experiencing the same as you so I don't have an answer there.. Hope you feel better soon Sherri
