    Acid Reducers.

Is Gavescon over the counter? I am waking up with major heartburn in the morning at all times. I am drinking two zantacs a day but that is not working Is acid reflux or heartburn common in those that have been sleeved? Does anyone know why?
  2. Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes. I am home from surgery and I feel great! I went in at about 9am (well went in earlier but my surgery time was 9am) and was out in 45 minutes. No, discomfort and no pain medication necessary. Oddly and pleasantly enough, they did not put a drainage tube or catheter. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything the entire day. I walked around the moment I got a room and that has helped greatly with the gas. I can BURP like a grown man!! But like SHREK says, better out than in. I had my leak test this morning (that liquid was horrible) and I passed!! I was exited to hear it!! I was then given Water, chicken broth, Jello and crystal light... Well, I tried the chicken broth but it was horrible. No way I am eating that. I ate the jello and drank some of the water. Oddly enough I have not been hungry. I feel like every time I drink or eat jello that I am forcing myself to because I don't really feel hungry. I have no head hunger either -- which is great! Tomorrow the dr says I can start on the Protein shakes. I bought some unjury Protein powder. Is it any good? It says it makes 8oz -- do you all make it and save the other 4oz for later? Friday I will be able to have blended stuff, milk, pudding, etc. I hope to tolerate it. I am not hungry but I have a weird feeling -- like I am afraid of food? Is that normal? My stomach sounds like world war III in there... There are all kinds of noises going on. I don't know what that is about but maybe she is getting used to it. Anyone else experience this? Other than the noise, I am feeling good. Glad to be home. Dr. sent me home with zantaz 2x a day -- which I never needed but he said it was good to take the first month as it helps settle your stomach and percaset for pain which I didn't take in the hospital so I don't plan to take at home if I can help myself. I weighed myself and I had gained 3 pounds -- probably because I am swollen right? It isn't because of food I can tell you that much!! I have an appt with the nutritionist on Friday. Will keep you posted. I am so happy everything turned out well. I was really scared coming un but I guess you really have to have faith in your surgeon.. :thumbup1:
  3. Thank you everyone... I am feeling good except today I have major heartburn! I am taking zantac -- but it is not helping.

    Acid Reducers.

Is Zantac an acid reducer? That is what I am taking -- the dr., gave it to me for a month... But I had to take a TUMS today because I had just major heartburn... The last time I had heartburn was when I was pregnant!!

    Insane comments

Yeah, I've had comments like that... You have such a pretty face.. But... So, what are you saying? I hate comments like that.
  6. Am I the only one that the dr and nutritionist told to eat 5-6 small 4 oz meals a day? I read a ton about people eating 3 times a day and no snacking -- yet my dr., said that I must make sure I eat every 3 hours... :thumbup1:
  7. Tomorrow will be a week since I was sleeved and I am feeling so great.. The only difficult part is getting mixed messages between my nutritionist and dr... The DR progresses you through the phases much more quickly than my nutritionist. When I was at the hospital he told me to go ahead and start on my Protein shakes with skim milk the next day after surgery. When I went to see him in the office on FRI - he told me to start on the mushy phase (fish, egg, veggies, etc.) and since I don't see my NUT until the end of the month, I really didn't know what to do. So, this is my 6th day since surgery and as he said, I tried fish today... It went down well -- no problems. Should I be worried that I am going to quickly? I know my NUT gave me a breakdown of 3 days of Clear liquids, 4 days of full liquid, 5 days of mushy foods, and the rest of the month soft foods... The dr --- advanced me to the end? Should I worry if I haven't had pain and seem to be doing well?

    Confused...

It's funny how everyone's dr is different... Well, since the surgery (today is 1 week and 1 day post op) I am eating yogurt, creamy Soups, chicken Soup, -- I even ate a piece of fish with some veggies. I was barely able to eat 4oz but everything went down great. No, issues. (knock on wood) Today I am having black bean soup with an egg in it.. Every day is a learning experience but I am so exited to only be able to eat a 1/2 cup at the most of things. I am also trying to weigh myself only once a week because daily was worrying me when I saw a gain But, in one week I have lost 7 pds I think... Prior to surgery I couldn't imagine losing 1 lb during the week!! :biggrin0:
  10. I just came back from my doctor's office to get weighed and I lost the necessary 10 pounds!! I am so exited!! I also did my pre-registration call -- it is so scary to be asked about a living will, blood transfusions, etc. BUT, I guess it is something that is done with every surgery. I just pray to GOD that I will be ok. I know there are risks to everything but when you make a decision to have elective surgery it is always scary. Wish me luck! :001_unsure:
  11. ok.. so yesterday had an awful bout with nausea after I ate the chewable multi vitamin... AND for the first time felt hungry. Am I suppose to feel hungry? I just ate this morning and I feel hungry? Is that normal? It is like an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach???

I'm terrified of not getting enough nutrients

Today is my 4th day too -- and the first couple of days if I didn't eat -- no problem. But today, for the first time, I am hungry. Is that normal? I even had a headache. I have been eating every 3 hours and sipping but it seems like I am still hungry? Could it be head hunger? Or am I really hungry? I feel hungrier than when I was doing the pre-op diet???
  13. I spoke to my nutritionist about it and he basically said that since I just got sleeved on Tuesday -- that I probably am not able to tolerate it. So, I am gong to try flinstones that my kids take and wait until next week to try the bariatric one again... Now, I am scared.
  14. Hi everyone, The dr recommended I start taking my multivitamin today -- I purchased Bariatric Advantage Complete Multi Formula and it seems like 2 minutes later I was nauseous and sick to my stomach. It even gave me diahrrea! Is that normal? I really don't feel like taking these tomorrow!!! Any Vitamins you all recommend that I can purchase over the counter? I also purchased the Vitamin B12 from Bariatric Advantage (Sublingual B12) has anyone had any adverse reaction? How did you like it? I don't need to take this one for 2-3 weeks. In addition, I purchased the calcium citrate chewy bites from Bariatric Advantage too -- also can't take for 2-3 weeks but would love to hear what you all think? Why is it that you can take all of them together? I must no have been listening when my dr was speaking to me!! lol -- I am glad I have you all for guidance!
  15. So, I just got back from the dr.'s office and he said that I can go on a full liquid diet now and on Monday on mushies... I am so exited! Oh, and when they weighed me -- I had already lost 14 pounds (10 pounds post op and 4 pounds since surgery on Tuesday). I am so exited! I am sitting here eating some homemade chicken Soup (blended with veggies and chicken). I am feeling great. Most of the gas is gone. Just wanted to let you all know how it was going.
  16. Well I got back from the hospital yesterday and I am feeling good. The dr told me that I could have a Protein shake today -- then I emailed my nutritionist and he said that the dr likes to advance more than he does.... But I did it anyways and it went down well. I've had one Protein Shake in the morning with skim milk that has 20 grams of protein; then I had Water with crystal light all day; at lunch I had an unjury chicken soup with another 20 grams of protein and more crystal light during the day -- and probably will have another protein shake with another 20 grams of protein. I have to be honest that when I woke up this morning I felt really, really, weak -- once I started the protein shake I felt much better. I went to Target to walk around and felt good. I have been very gassy today --- lots of burping but feel good except my son keeps telling me, excuse me mom every time I burp... It is hard to say excuse me when I burp so much. LOL But overall, I am feeling good - I'll let you know what my nutritionist says tomorrow. I have not been hungry at all!! I am just looking forward to chewing soon!! On Tuesday, I can have egg, oatmeal, etc.. I CAN'T WAIT!!!
  17. I had surgery on Tuesday and have to say I have had no pain. Never took a pain killer -- did not take the morphine in the hospital.. It has been wonderful. As far as drinking; well, I have tried to drink as much as possible but I feel very restricted. So, I just take small sips all day. I am 2 days post op and went to Target today to walk around. My dr. said I could have protein shakes today so I had one this morning, a protein soup in the afternoon and one protein shake this evening. I am feeling good - I have a nutritionist appt tomorrow and if all goes well, I can have pudding and blended soups. woohoo!!
  18. Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate the well wishes. :thumbup1:
  19. Just had my surgery yesterday and it was amazing so far.... Had no pain... No drainage tube, no catheter!!! Wooohoo!!! I am up bcuz the noises in a hospital don't let anyone sleep. Today will be doing upper gi and if all goes well... I can start liquids and go home.... Thank you all for your well wishes. I think it is because of you all and God that I am doing so well!!!
  20. Thank you so much!!! On my way to hospital;)
  21. As I wipe a tear -- I want to thank everyone for your well wishes. It means so much to me! I can't wait! I am off to bed since I have to leave at 4am tomorrow morning!! I hope to be on the losers bench with everyone else real, real, soon!! Thank you so much!! If anyone is having surgery the same day - I will be thinking and praying for you too.

    Slider Foods

Maybe this is a silly question -- but what do you all consider slider foods? I hear this term often but don't understand? I mean, to me liquids would be slider foods? But what else?
