  1. Hey! How are you doing? It's been almost a week! Haven't seen too many posts from you and was wondering about you.

  2. I was banded three days ago. So far, I've not had any problems with recovery that I know of. However, I am having trouble distinguishing when I may be hungry or not. I am so worried that my sips are too big or that I'm sipping too quickly. So I don't eat very often for fear of consuming too much. While I'm eating or drinking, there doesn't seem to be any problem, HOWEVER, long afterward (like one to two hours after some Soup let's say) I get chest pains that affect my deep breathing. Is this normal? Is it gas? I called the nurse yesterday and she said it could be from the swelling and pushing my diaphragm or lungs. Has anyone else had this? Whatever it is scares me. Thanks,
  3. I am on a liquid diet at this point, and everything I consume seems to slide right on through. I guess that's a good thing, but I feel like I'm not eating at all. However, I did have about 3 oz of yogurt this morning and I'm full. I am having a hard time drinking all day long. I just don't want it. Incidentally, my chest pain is much better today. I am completely off my pain medication and while it hurts sometimes, it's tolerable. I go for follow up visit on Wednesday and should get some more answers then. Good Luck to everyone.

    is anyone from ashland,ky

No, I'm not FROM Ashland, but I sure do know where it is! I'm originally from Portsmouth, but I currently live in Jackson, OH. And I used to live in Greenup! Welcome to the forum!
  5. Thanks everyone! I did a little experiment this evening. After I ate about 2 oz of applesauce, I tried to pay very close attention to whether or not I had the chest pain. I did not. Then, I took a gas-x strip. Still no pain. Now that is has been about an hour and a half, it's starting. I'm pretty sure it's gas.

    Had my surgery yesterday

Liquids for two weeks though they don't have to be clear. So I can have cream soup, jello, broth, popsicles, etc. I haven't been very hungry at all, so I'm struggling to make myself eat the daily quota of protein. I keep having some weird pain my chest that I "think" is gas undercover! I'm recovering very well I think, and my belly isn't too sore today, so I cut back on the pain meds a bit. Other than the chest pain every hour or so, I feel fine. Just not hungry.

    Had my surgery yesterday

Hello! I too was banded yesterday. I was in great shape through last night. Not much pain, just discomfort. Slight gas pain, but tolerable. Slept pretty well last night. Then, today hit me...I feel like I've been beaten up! I'm taking my pain meds, and trying to walk off some of the gas. But all in all, I'm doing okay. And I wouldn't trade this opportunity for anything in world. Good Luck to you and please stay in touch! This is an awesome forum with a wealth of experience and knowledge! I hope you find it the same.

    Just waiting for my taxi....

    Good Luck for speedy recovery!
  9. Wow, I can't imagine what it would be like to have my surgery date sprung on me like that. But, I will tell you felt all of these emotions and more for the past week or so. While my journey began Sept of last year, I felt I was ready and I was. But I still had second thoughts, doubts, crazy nerves, etc. I just kept reassuring myself it is the right thing for me to do! I was banded this morning, and I can already say it is wonderful in Bandland!!! I'm so happy I did it, and I haven't even lost any weight yet!:smile2: Good Luck to you and please keep us posted!
  10. Good Luck on your surgery tomorrow! I was banded today and it has been wonderful being in Bandland so far! I did exactly what I was told to do on the pre-op diet, and my surgeon told me my liver was in awesome shape for surgery. I have had no real pain, just some discomfort. No nausea at all, but I'm beginning to get some gas pain in my shoulder. Please keep us posted. Best Wishes for an easy recovery.
  11. Thanks, Sourmissg!!! A fart recovery is exactly what I need right now with all this gas! And, I know what you meant.:smile2: Good Luck to you and all the others going to Bandland tomorrow and please update when you can so we know how you're doing.
  12. Awesome, Baby! Glad to hear you're doing so well. It must have been because of me holding your hand. :smile2: Anyway, I'm doing great too. Had the surgery around 8am and was back in my room by 11am. I had/have virtually no pain, just some discomfort around my incisions. My husband and I went to the grocery store to get my Rx filled on the way home. We walked around there, shopping for about 30 minutes. Came home and rested for a bit. Then, we walked up and down our road for about an hour this evening. I'm really, really trying to avoid the shoulder gas pain. Now, I'm reading email and posting on the forum! As for food, I've not been the least bit hungry. I sipped on water and juice since surgery, and I had a s/f jello cup. But that's all. I'm not sure if that's good or not. Well, great job today! And please check in tomorrow, if you feel like it. Doesn't feel GREAT on this side of the band?! LOVIN' IT!!!!:tt1::mad::tt1::tt1:
  13. I know EXACTLY what you mean. And, we're very soon to be on our way. Good Luck to you tomorrow. Stay in Touch!:thumbup::thumbup::wub::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
  14. Good Luck to everyone this week! I'm finishing up my posts for today, then I'm out until who knows when. My surgery is scheduled early, so I have to be there at 6:15 am to get started. I hope everyone does well and I'll see you all on the other side (Bandland!) Woo Hoo!!!!!
  15. I hope you are okay, Chrissy. I haven't had much of an appetite most of the time these days. It really is true: the less you eat, the less you want. Just think, in less that a day and a half, we'll be banded!!! YAY! Are ya out there, Aleen? How are you doing?

    Hi hi hi

Welcome! And Good Luck on your journey!
  17. Highlojack- Look at this way: we are holding eachother's hands. Maybe not literally, but in thought. We are in this together and need eachother to be successful. While my husband says he's okay with me having the surgery, he isn't the most considerate of my feelings right now. Don't get me wrong, he's a wonderful guy and I love him dearly, but he just doesn't understand the emotions of it all. It's really nice to be able to talk to others going through the same thing. I'm generally a really strong person, an even I am having doubts and fears right now. I've worked and waited for this for over a year, and I'll be darn if I'm going to back out now! It's the right thing to do. Good Luck to you! I'll watch for your posts so we can stay in touch!
  18. Hi, Girls! Sorry it's been so long since my last post. I was camping with my family over the weekend and didn't have access to the pc. Boy, was that a test of willpower! My husband and I are normally the Chuckwagon Chefs and it was soooo hard not to taste test or just eat. But....I am so proud to say that I stuck to my pre-op diet and did not cheat! So, are you ready for Wednesday? I excited, nervous, anxious, sick to my stomach, all in one! Hope you have a good Monday!

    Recovery period

I know exactly where you're coming from. I used to be Store Manager for a large grocery store chain for 15 years. The "holiday" season is crazy and managers never like their "key" people to be on vacation or sick leave during that time. With that being said, it is the law that your employer must allow you the time off. And while I never ever would have agreed with myself back when I was in retail, I now say you must do what is right for you! There's never a good time to have surgery. There is always something you can justify for a reason not to do it, whether that be pre-op diet, liquid diet, someone else/another employee on vacation at that time, Black Friday, whatever... Do you what you need to do for YOU and do the best you can to get back to work in a timely manner. I think of it as compromise. Good Luck to you, Sara!

    Woke up Sick

I had the same thing happen to me. I'm due to be banded on Wed the 22nd. This past Thursday, I started having a sore throat and stuffed up head. I got soooo nervous, I didn't know what to do. I've waited too long to have my surgery cancelled just days before due to a silly little allergy/sinus issue! So, I crossed my fingers and called the nurse at the surgeon's office. She told me to take some Zirtec over the weekend and I'd be fine for surgery on Wednesday. Good Luck on Monday!
  21. Great philosophy, Kris! I like it! I too am scheduled for surgery this coming week. I started this journey on the 26th of Sept of LAST year. I have been adamant that this is the right thing for me, and I have been comfortable with my decision. But now, with it being so close to becoming a reality, the second-guessing has begun. I KNOW deep down in my heart that this is the right choice for me. But I think it's just natural for have the second thoughts. Good Luck to you and I'm sure you will make the right choice in the end.

    One month weight gain?

I gained 2 lbs on my third month visit. I was more embarrassed than anything. The Dr. just told me to do better the next month. You should be fine. Just get back on the horse....
