  1. That which doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger. I've been there too. It is so frustrating and disappointing to hear the news that you're not overweight enough for long enough or that your weight isn't making your unhealthy enough. That's a bunch of bologna! Anyway, hang in there and don't give up. It will happen for you one way or another. While it's hard to wait, good things happen to those who wait! Sorry about all the cliches, but they're sooo true. Good Luck to you!

    started liquid diet today

Congrats and Good Luck to you! BTW, I love your profile name. LOL
  3. I'm scheduled for Sept 22nd too! I have yet to see my surgeon for pre-op testing, but I will do that on the 2nd. I'm so close and I'm really wanting to get on with it. I can hardly wait. That was so sweet of you g'ma to help you with this. God bless her!
  4. Sept 22nd here! I have an appt with my surgeon on Sept 2 for pre-op testing. Then, I have a nutrition seminar on Sept 14. I certainly won't be as long as it has been! I can't wait!
  5. I have BCBS in WV. They require 6 months supervised diet. So...my first appt was January 8th and I finally have a surgery date of Sept 22nd. Everyone's situation is different and it really depends on what your insurance requires and doesn't require. And, how quickly your Dr's office works to get your paperwork done. Good Luck to you!

    New girl

Congratulations on your approval and your new beginning! Good Luck to you!
  7. Hello! I'm 38 years old, married, with a 4 year old daughter. I live in southeastern Ohio, and I began my Lap Band journey in September of 2009. I am currently finishing up my requirements for insurance approval and hope to have a date set for surgery sometime in August. I'd love to hear from other Buckeyes or anyone with anticipated surgeries in August.

Go to the Forum tab at the top of your page, all the way at the bottom is LBT Forum Suggestions, Questions, and Updates. There are all kinds of threads in there with technical questions and step-by-step directions for tickers.

    Hi All!

Hi, Julie! Congrats on your surgery. I am in Southeastern Ohio and am hoping to have my surgery in early August. I too have been lurking for some time. I've made a few posts here and there, but have mostly read posts. I sure have learned a lot. Good Luck on your journey!

    BCBS insurance

Meanmom, I have BCBS of WV. I have to agree with Losethemess as her experience fits mine almost to a T. All companies who offer insurance thru BCBS have different stipulations. So while some BCBS cover the surgery (some with requirements and some without) if the company your friend works for does not allow bariatric surgery, it would not be covered. The best thing to do is get with your employer and see what surgeries are excluded. Bariatric surgery is usually explicitly excluded from coverage if that is the case. Otherwise, the requirements are not that difficult ie, jumping thru hoops. For me, it has just been the waiting. I am so anxious to get going and I've had to wait for six months. (Maybe it wouldn't have been as bad, but I was denied by my previous insurance last September and had to wait till January to start the whole process over again.) I hope this helps and Good Luck to you and your friend!

    Whats wrong with my brain

A friend told me that when she got cravings, she would drink a glass of Water and wait 20 minutes. After 20 mins, if she still had the craving, she drank another glass of water and waited 20 mins. After the second 20 mins, if she still had the craving, she brushed her teeth. The craving usually subsided after the toothpaste taste. This also works post-op when you're trying to figure out if you're really hungry or not. Hope this helps.

    August 2010 anyone?

Hi, All! I'm glad to see a couple more ladies added to our thread. LoseTheMess, I too have BCBS only out of WV. It sounds like we are having the same prerequisites. I had my first dietician appt in Feb and my last is scheduled for July 14th. I can't wait! I have my psych eval this week and my second support group meeting tomorrow. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I am hoping the final insurance approval will be quick too, but I'm not holding my breath after all the crap I've been through with insurance. As for the pre surgery weight loss, I've lost 10 lbs, which is much better than I expected, but nothing spectacular. Kurby, I so wish this process was faster for me as I'm very impatient for the change. But, I'm glad I don't have to pay for the surgery and I really am thankful for the opportunity to learn the new lifestyle prior to the surgery. I think the waiting period is really like was said earlier, just to get you accustomed to the changes you must make post-surgery in order to be successful. The hardest one I've had so far is not drinking with my meals. I'm a big iced tea drinker and I've had to give that up as well. Anyway, I'm okay with it though as there's a bigger prize in sight. Good to hear from you all. Let's keep up with eachother's progress. I love really knowing and talking to someone who's doing the same stuff at the same time.

    August 2010 anyone?

We had a really hard time conceiving with my dd. It took over 3 years! I am convinced it was due to my obesity. And my pregnancy was high-rish due to my extremely high blood pressure. While I entertain the thought of a second child, I won't even consider it until I get my weight under control. It's not fair to me or my unborn child. I wish you good luck in your journey on both the weight loss and another baby! It will be so worth it in the end.

    August 2010 anyone?

I'm just anxious to get going. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about my new lifestyle in the time I'm "waiting" for surgery. But not a day goes by that I don't want to just get going! I haven't had any second thoughts, probably because I did my research beforehand. Or maybe I will after I get closer to my surgery date. Either way, I'm ready to get this party started!

    August 2010 anyone?

Hi Kurby! I too am "hoping" to be banded in August. I have been preapproved by my insurance, but they require 6 months of monitoring before the surgery. I just had my 5th appointment today and scheduled my 6th for July 14th. My psych evaluation is next week, so I'll be all ready to submit for final approval at my July appt. Thus, I'm hoping for an August surgery date. I am 38 yrs old, 5' 7 1/2", started in January at 296 lbs. I also am happily married with a 4 year old daughter. Sounds like we have a lot in common.
