  1. I usually gain about 2-3 lbs, but I don't freak out anymore because it always goes away after. Just another hard part about being a girl.....

    left side pain....gas?

I still had gas pain when I was 8 days out. It wasn't constant at that point. It just showed up at random. Always call your dr. if you feel there is an issue. I understand the worrying about every little pain. I was just banded this past October, but I still focus on any little pain in the band area. I have been good at every dr. appointment so I guess it's just some residual soreness. Please be sure to call your surgeon if you aren't sure.

    Still hate my band

OK. Now I see why you are frustrated. I don't know about you, but I don't have $15,000 to spare. That is a lot of money. I'm hoping I can gather enough money just in case I need a tummy tuck (hard to do with 2 kids) Do you think you need to talk to your surgeon or a nutritionist? Maybe that will help. I don't know, but those are just suggestions.

    Still hate my band

Formerly Fluffy, I hate that people have responded negatively to you. The band is not right for everyone. It would not have been right for me a few years ago. Since everyone here has weight issues, you would think that they should understand we have all tried different things. Every body and soul is different so some need WLS and some don't. Some need the band, but some don't. Bypass or the sleeve works for some. I praise all people for anything they chose. Your mindset may not work with the band. Just be strong and find what you need. The band may still work for you??? Who knows??? Please let us know what is going on with you. Just know that I will not have a negative response to you. Good luck!!!
  7. Welcome!! We sound like we have things in common. I have been married 6 years and I have a 15 year old. I also have a 5 year old. I am 35 and at my heaviest (right before surgery) I was 285. Not good when you are 5'3"!!! I don't live in California, but I did many years ago. Does that count?? hehe I also prayed a lot about surgery and did a lot of research. One day my mind "clicked" and I decided to get lap band. I just had my surgery 10/12/10, and I am very happy. This was the best decison I ever made. Do not be discouraged by any requirements your insurance may have. Mine seemed like a never ending list, but surgery came before I knew it. I am very happy with my outcome and I hope you find the same happiness. Please keep us posted or feel free to add me as I friend. I am very new at this, but I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Good luck!!!!

    Still hate my band

I hate that you have had such a bad experience. I hope it gets better for you. I was just banded in October so I don't have much experience, but I know I have to put in work so the band can work for me. I read a lot before I got it and my surgeon told me it was not a magic bullet. Maybe your surgeon didn't expplain that??? I hope you find out what works best for you. It may be bypass or the sleeve. Good luck to you and I hope you keep us posted. Be positive and you will find what you are looking for.

    Approved - Yipee

    Congrats to everyone!!!
  10. The gas will eventually go away. Mine was really bad and I couldn't believe how air could make a person hurt so bad. The Gas -X strips didn't do much for me. Moving helped a lot more eventhough it was so hard to move. I would get up and feel like I was going to barf, but I pushed through it to get rid of that gas.

    Hidden fees???

My Dr. didn't have any type of program fees. I just had to pay my co-pay for my visits and then my insurance paid 90% of what I needed to pay after my deductible was met.
  12. Try Spanx. I havn't lost enough weight to have loose skin yet, but I like Spanx for everyday wear. Some girdles can be hard and uncomfortable, but Spanx can be worn all day.

    Calorie Counting WORKS!

I wasn't tracking my calories, but I was losing well. On the advice of isaviolinist, I started putting everything into Fitday.com. I started this to focus on my fat intake, but this helped me focus on my calories. Anything that goes into my mouth goes into my Fitday log....and I mean EVERYTHING. Tracking calories helps a great deal. I know some don't agree, but it is working for me so far.
  14. I saw your post and thought I would respond. I'm doing great and I'm so glad I did this. Are you ready for your surgery?

    Stop the madness

OMG!! You read my mind. I almost posted a thread like this yesterday. I saw so many posts with the word "only" and that irritated me. Everyone should be proud of any weight loss. It doesn't matter if it's .2 lbs. You lost , so you should be happy.
  16. I was weighed right before I went to my little room to put on the gown.

Should slapping or spanking be considered child abuse?

That is mental abuse. I also disagree with DCFS saying that is not physical abuse. It sounds like this child is being hit for just living and breathing. Sad.

    How much fat per day?

I was banded about a month ago. I've been making sure I get all of my protein, vitamins, water and fruit/veggie. I haven't been keeping track of how much my fat intake is. My doctor said not to focus on fat while I was in the blended stage, but focus more on the protein. I've still made good choices while I've been in the blended phase. I start my solids on Wednesday and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to utilize this great tool. I'm not afraid of eating too much since I measure all of my food and I plan out my meals for the week to get the best protein intake. I am just cluess as to how much fat would be considered a good or bad amount. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

Should slapping or spanking be considered child abuse?

I don't think spanking is child abuse. I think the child just needs to know what he or she is doing wrong before it even gets to a spanking. I give a verbal reprimand and explain what actions are wrong and why. If the same action is done again, then I will talk to the offender ONE LAST TIME and let them know the next consequence will be a spanking. The third time results in a few pops on the behind (I use my hand). I always hug after and ask "Do you know why you got a spanking?" They always know exactly what they did and why they got a spanking. Parents also have to realize all kids are different. My oldest was stubborn and loved to test me. That caused her to get more spakings than her little sister. A stern look will stop the little one dead in her tracks. I don't slap eventhough my oldest makes me want to sometimes. I just tell her we will talk later or I may just walk away before I lose my mind. She's 15 and that is the age an alien invade their bodies!!!!

    Need encouragement

Why are you worrying about the weight loss of others? This is about you. I don't base my happiness on what Tom or Jane lost or didn't lose. You need to look inside of you and figure out what you want to do. You may also want to go to a support group or schedule an appointment with a therapist. Sometimes vocalizing the issue helps.
  21. I was banded 10/12/10 and I eat 8oz for each meal. There is no way on this earth I could eat 4 oz. I would starve. I just started putting my meals into fitday.com so I keep track of calories, but that has just been in the last 2 weeks. You should call your surgeon's office and talk to them if you aren't sure how much to eat. Mine helped me when I had a few questions.
  22. Dr. Kim is my surgeon and that's the same diet I followed. I only had to follow it for 2 weeks, pre-op, so I'm assuming you aren't getting the band. It is very limited, but I got used to it after the first 2 - 3 days. It's best to follow the diet he gives because he is a great surgeon and he knows what he is doing. My liver looked good when my surgery date rolled around and I know it was a result of this diet. I'm sure it looked like a hot mess before the diet.
  23. I know 2 months seems like a long time, but it will fly by. I thought it would be an eternity before I got mine since I had to do 6 months worth of insurance requirements BEFORE my paperwork could even be submitted to them. Then Cigna took a month to approve me and then my surgey was scheduled for a month after that. All in all, it was 8 months from start to finish. I would never have dreamed that 8 months would go by so quickly. You'll also need these last few months to get prepared if you haven't started already. I know I used my time to get my mind wrapped around what I was about to do.
  24. Banded 10/12 and I will get my first fill 12/1.
