  1. For some people they give these foods up entirely, others eat them in smaller portions.

It is impossible to predict in advance what you will/won't be able to eat. It seems to be a very individual journey.

I eat a lot of the same foods I did before, but much smaller portions. I can't eat a lot of red meat, other than hamburger, it is just too tough. But, if I want some chips, for example, I'll eat maybe 10 of them and am satisfied. Before I would eat an entire bag. I've kept my weight off for over a year now, so this approach seems to be working for me. I agree it is an individual thing though.

  2. The closer I get to my goal, the less motivation I seem to have. I've continued to work out and am eating WAY less than I did before. However, I'm not making the same good food choices I was. I'm sure part of it is my SAD and hopefully my new meds will help with this, but has anyone else gone through this? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get through this?

    thanks

  3. How are your meds? I have bi-polar and know how important being on the right meds at the right does is. I also agree whole heartedly with the above post, get moving. Just make yourself do it, it's not an option not to. It will spur on weight loss and help your mood as well. Good luck!

I'm on meds now, but have to start a little extra anti-depressent this time of year. I start getting really depressed when the weather changes and there isn't as much sunlight. I know I've been eating like crap lately and, even though I've been working out, am not moving more than I absolutely have to.

Once the meds kick in, I know it will really help. It does help to get moving, but if you think you might need meds, please check it out.

  4. Hey does anyone know about a website that you can put in a route (say Pennsylvania to California) and as you walk/run/go on the elliptical, you can input your miles and it will tell you where on your "route" you are? I saw a website like that once, but can't find it now. I would like to do that and then when I walk the amount of miles to complete my "route", maybe I'll take a vacation to the destination. Seems like a fun challenge, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a website that did something like that. Thanks!

I have seen sites where you can map out a route in a specific city or area, but nothing like your describing. That would be pretty neat to have though.

  5. Good idea on lowering the goal. I was always told to make a goal and minus 10 Lbs. and the reason is because if you should start to gain some back, you will have time to catch it and make it right again. GREAT JOB!!!

For me I definitely plan to add that extra 10 Lbs. It will seem weird for me being so thin, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. :)

I am officially now back into my 16's. I'm so glad! I had gained back into my 22's *cry* but hey, I had to take my life back and get back into control. I'm doing it now though and feeling super incredible!!! I'm down 33 Lbs. from where I'd gained back from too. Back down into the 240's -- so I'm rocking and rolling here! :)

Yesterday was my workout off day - so I didn't do much there. But Thursday I really hit a home run! I worked out for over 2 hours all at once. I did my treadmill for over 45 minutes, my Stationary Bike for 48 mins and did 30 mins of Calisthenics. I concentrate mostly on my upper arms and thigh and buttocks areas - as those tend to be my trouble spots.

I plan to do more of the same today! I do believe this girls' routine is finally back on hit! :)

    Have a great weekend!!!!

Holy cow! You are really on a roll! That is great that you are back into the 16's again! I have to admit I"m a bit jealous though. I didn't get into the 16's until I was under 200. I bet you look awesome! :)

I've been running 3 miles once a week, 1 mile or so once or twice a week and keeping up on the weights. I ran a little over 3 yesterday and am having trouble with my good knee. It is just on the outside of my knee, right below my knee cap. I'll ice it tonight and do the bike and upper arms tomorrow and see how it goes.

Unfortunately, I've also been into the Halloween candy that the kids got, so I need to run more than ever!

I really need to rededicate myself to this and start eating better instead of just relying on exercise to lose weight. I've done that before and as soon as I cut back on the exercise a little bit I blow up again.

You are really inspiring me LilMiss! Thanks for coming on here so I can see someone else is doing so well!:hi:

  6. Mary, firstly -- CONGRATULATIONS ON HITTING GOAL LADY!!! Great for you! You have done amazingly well.

Hey, a mile's a mile... at least you did it. I don't blame you, I mean sometimes we really do need a break for a day or so. However, for me it's been tooooo long!! LMAO!! It's all good. I'm back at it though and that's all that matters.

    I did super good yesterday!

I did 2.25 miles on my lunch break at work, I did 17 minutes on my elliptical... and 30 minutes with my calisthenics. I work on my upper arms and thighs especially because those are my trouble areas.

Now, as for the elliptical.. I think I did pretty good considering I hadn't been on there for about 6 weeks at least. I did bump it up to resistance 5 though, so I didn't go too easy on myself. I want to be back up to 30 minutes within the next 2 weeks.

Keep up the momentum girlie! You're the reason I keep coming back and sticking with what I'm supposed to be doing. Hugs!!!

Thank you! I want to lose another 10, but the Dr. thought that this was a good place to stop, so I'm happy. :P

You did great! I'm impressed you can walk that much at work on your lunch break. You walk a lot faster than I do. You ae doing awesome for beimg off for awhile too. You'll be back where you were before you know it.

Tomorrow is my day to sleep in an extra hour and I'm really looking forward to it! I am so tired! I was supposed to go to a Girl Scout Leader meeting tonight and I'm even skipping that. I would rather stay home and watch Hannah Montana Forever with my daughter. LOL

I will be back at the Y again on Thursday and hopefully will be able to repeat the 3 miles again.

    Keep up the great work!

  7. Mary BIG WOWS!!!!!!!!!! :huh2: Way to go!!!!! You know you did a 5K right? That's about 3.1 miles... fantastic!!! I'm super happy for you!! That is my dream, girl... so awesome! :)

As for me the answer was no! I didn't start my workouts but I'm really just making dumb excuses. I really gotta get on the ball again. I haven't even done any walking in almost a week now... *sigh* but I'm having my High Fiber oatmeal for lunch then heading out for a walk of about 2.25 miles. Starting over is harder than one might think.

I will get on my elliptical tonight - even if its only 15 minutes. I'll be back on it full time in no time but gotta build up to it. Once the stamina gets going there's no stopping me.

I'll check back soon because someone needs to keep me real on the workouts by golly!!! LOL :huh2:

Thanks! I did a mile today and was really dragging, so I'll take a break from running for a few days. :plane:

It is SO hard to go back to it when I've taken just a couple of days off. I really have to drag myself back. I completely understand. To me, it is almost harder when you stop and try to go back again, than it is just to get started.

I'm sure you will do great tonight on the elliptical! Did you have a nice walk?

  8. Mary AWESOME!!!! You are on your way lady!

Ok so this week I am gonna get back to my workouts big time. I'm going to start adding in 20-25 Minutes of elliptical or stationary bike. I'm back up to 2 miles or more walking 6 days per week (WHOOT!!) and my calisthenics for 30 Minutes 3x per week.

    Let's do this!!!!

    Hi, Everyone!

How did it go LilMiss with the cardio and the increased workouts? That is great that you are walking 2 miles or more!

My big news is that I ran 3 miles yesterday! I ran on Tuesday for 40 mins and did 2.87 miles, so I figured I would just run another 40 minutes yesterday. I went a bit faster and did 3 miles--I was so excited I had to call my husband as soon as I got to work. :)

Now I have to get something so I can walk again. My heels are killing me and I don't know if it is my shoes, which I haven't worn that much, or if I just need some kind of cushion in them. I'm going to the running store tomorrow to check it out.

My new goal is to be able to run 3x/wk instead of just 2.

  9. My goal is actually my Dr's goal. I would like to be 10-15 lbs under that.

I think that the bigger problem I have, and it is my problem, is that I have trouble accepting that my parents can be so encouraging now and were the opposite when I was younger. In fact, it probably made me focus on my weight more than I would have.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

  10. I can totally relate to this. All my life I have been teased or insulted for being "fat." Even in HS when I was playing 3 sports and in the best shape of my life I was still at best a size 14. I WISH I HAD THAT BODY NOW!!!! :)

My sister was the slender one, I took after my dad. When my father died, he could not fit in a normal sized casket, but he wanted to be cremated anyway. The point being he was a LARGE man.

When I went in for surgery, my mom cried so much. She kept saying how proud she was that I was doing this and how beautiful I will be when I lose weight. She told the nurse how beautiful I was when I was younger, and the nurse said "She is beautiful now" My mom still said "yes but she was much beautiful not so overweight" UGH, they never get it.

Oh and my mom said I "let myself go" to my surgeon at my first appointment. Actually, I have lost 50+ pounds at least 4 times in my life, I just always gradually put the weight back on, and then some!

Don't let it get you down, we are all doing this for ourselves.

PS. Someone told me the other day "I hope you did this surgery for yourself and not for vanity reasons, because, you got it going on already" :)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one going through this. My mom told me she was so happy that she could see my "pretty" face now.

I hope you did this surgery for yourself and not for vanity reasons, because, you got it going on already" :)

That is a great thing to say. :)

  11. My parents saw a picture of me the other day and called me to congratulate me and tell me how good I looked, etc. All I could think of, the whole time they were telling me how good I look now, was of high school when I was the same weight and wearing smaller clothes.

All I ever heard from them was how fat I was. They were constantly putting me on crazy diets (the all Pasta diet, the fast 3x a week diet, etc.) and making me exercise above and beyond my 2x daily swim team practices, because I was so fat.

I've spent years trying to get over feeling like a complete failure if I'm not a size 6. I thought I was past it until they started complimenting me. I didn't say anything about the past, because the past is past and it is on me to get over it. It just frustrates me that after years of working on this, it all comes back in a couple of minutes.

  12. I had a pt and it was really great to have someone show me different things to do. I was getting stuck in a rut and she showed me a lot of different weight lifting routines, stretches, cardio, and general toning exercises. I had 8 30 minutes sessions with her and then work out on my own the rest of the time.

I'm planning on getting another trainer in a couple of months to get some different routines and exercises.
