  1. I'd go with South Beach if I were you. I went on Atkins twice... once for a year and once for 9 months... both times it ended with me passing a stone. I think there is too much fat on Atkins for your liver, etc.
  2. What were some of the pureed proteins??? I am on pureed foods and could only come up with egg salad mushed.
  3. Hi Big! Surg. date 6/28 and I am just now getting a bit hungry. Wednesday I had my first cream of wheat and I'm still using the same envelope. Probably finish it tomorrow. I wish this would last forever. Start 236 Today 220. Slow is best. Hi LIveLove! OMG! Who fills the bands? How can they fill them too much? They should be trained to do it just right... now I'm nervous... I hope you can keep the band and just not get another bad fill. You poor thing! HUGS!
  4. I'm 66 and I've told everyone on my Facebook, and in the real world... I think of it differently. My outlook is ok, you have a problem. Everyone has some problem, but you are going the full limit to solve yours, which in my eyes makes you the best person. Most people respond in awe that you could be so strong a person to make such a move to make yourself a better person. However, there is nothing wrong with those of you who chose to keep it secret... that's just part of who you are and you know you are making yourself the best that you can be. Perhaps age has something to do with my attitude. I've noticed myself becoming more and more bold each day. I love it.
  5. I wish you the best with the sleeve. This heat wave will help us both... too hot to eat.
  6. Yikes... how scary. I wonder how often that happens. Glad you are all set now. Maybe you'll be even better with the sleeve.
  7. OK, Val, I'm confused... I thought you had the sleeve? Hope your post op went well, mine did. Lot of waiting but got out about 10:30. I was surprised to learn that I already got my first fill during surgery!!! No wonder I'm not hungry. I can eat pureed foods and my daughter-in-law came over with her concoction... pineapple, papaya, strawberries, bananas, tufu... all whipped up in her fruit thingie... it was very good. I ate some whipped tuna for lunch... added a bit of onion soup for flavor and it wasn't 1/2 bad. Baby steps.... just waiting for things to cool off so I can walk my mile.
  8. OMG... is this common? I really thought the band was the answer and I'd not have to diet anymore.
  9. I'm not sure how long my appointment will take, but if I have to see the dietitician and stuff and it gets close to 11, I'll look for you! I hope Dr. H is having a wonderful vacation... he deserves it, can you imagine all the surgeries he does? There was a man on our floor that my hubby visited... had the gastric bypass the same day we had ours. That's 3 in one day!!!!
  10. I went home on Tuesday around 1 pm. Had I known I would have walked down to visit you!!! When I got there they said... we were expecting you at 6;30.... your surgery was for 8:00. I felt terrible because we sat in the car until 8 because I didn't want to be too early. When I got home I rechecked and sure enough they told me to be at the hospital at 8 and surgery at 10. I didn't go until 11. He did say there was a complication with the previous surgery. I never heard of the sleeve. I'll have to Google it.
  11. ME!!! My appt. is 8:15! Maybe we'll get mushies tomorrow. I'm still not hungry so makes little difference to me except it would be a nice variety. Today was the first day I could actually finish my little jello cup. The popsicles sure hit the spot today!!! I'm feeling very good now... gas gone but my far left incision is itching like mad. No... I didn't itch it... hope I don't in my sleep or something.
  12. What time was yours done? Mine was about 11, was supposed to be at 10 but they weren't on time. I was in 1068.
  13. After I lose a lot of my weight, I want to finally look good in clothes. How can I keep my skin from sagging and my face from looking haggard? I started the program at 238, was 226 day of surgery (June 28, 2010) and after 5 days 221. :tt1:
  14. I have a few questions... my surgery date is Monday, June 28 How long after surgery can I enjoy my Decaf coffee with cream? My husband has a very important doctor appt. on June 30 that I'd like to attend with him.... do you think I'll be up for it? Does someone give you eating/drinking instructions before you leave the hospital? Has anyone left the hospital the same day? I'd save $425. admission co pay if I could. Thank you!

    A few Questions

Now that the surgery is past, I can answer my own questions... Coffee? Yuck... I decided everything that goes into my body will have nutritional value. Hubby went to appt. alone and did very well. I was not up for it. I stayed overnight... you have to so they can do the xray the next day and... there was no way I could have gone home. They give you some very strong meds during/after and I could just about make it to the bathroom... you also need the IV fluids to combat dehydration. Well worth the $425. I tried to save. PS... I posted a pic and stuff under the edit profile but nothing is showing up??? Help!

    Skin Control

You are doing great, Carol!!! Congrats. (Still trying to get my signature to work!)
  18. Greetings, Had my banding on June 28, 2010 and was very scared... right up until yesterday I felt terrible. Today, things are looking brighter and I'm so glad I had the surgery and I'm feeling better. Still no hunger and I love that... I don't have to stop my favorite hobbies to cook and eat... I can sip my drinks while I work. Hubby's eating only bothered me once... he had chicken fingers last night and the smell sort of gave me a yearning...for a few moments only. I made chicken broth and was happy. I started the program at 238 and am now 220. 18 lbs since April and the scale is going down instead of it's usual trip UP. I love Dr. HOffman. He is the most caring doc I've ever had. Makes me wish I could make him my reg. doc as well. Anyone out there who is thinking of the surgery... go for it! You owe it to yourself to be all that you can be! You only live once.

    Skin Control

Wow... looked gross at first but turned out great! However, I don't think I could put myself through that unless I was very young or had to look good to make a living.

    Embarrassing Diarrhea Question

LOL... I love this place. :tt1:

    Am I too old?

I don't think your age has anything to do with the criteria for surgery. I think it has to do with your physical condition. I"m 66, and healthy and active. They checked me with a find tooth comb but I passed.

    Embarrassing Diarrhea Question

You look fantastic. I'm so glad for this thread because I was getting worried with diarrhea like Water... I couldn't even take my walk today. I'll have to get Depends...LOL. Nice to know it's "ok".

    Skin Control

Anxious to hear hummingbird's answer, but mine is NO MORE SURGERIES. LOL I've had tonsilectomy, hysterectomy, gallbladder, breast reduction, and now this.... I hate how I feel after surgery... I hate the drugs. Everytime I had surgery, they tried to get me up the first day and I passed out... happens everytime. I think it's more the drugs then the surgery but I'll let the skin hang also. But I will try the body suit because gravity does have a tendency to pull so we'll try it. Can't hurt.

I love the attitudes and I'm going to remember them so I'll feel the same way. Thanks. :tt1:
