    Help I'm Not Losing

Thank you for the help. I'll let them fill me in two weeks and I'll let you know. I'm a bit scared of it... but I guess it has to be done. Hubby and I are retired and we travel a lot and eat out a lot and that's a problem because it takes me so long to eat and hubby gets antsy. Thank you very much for the advice.

    Help I'm Not Losing

Thank you but diets never work for me... I want to eat less. I see nutritionalist and I do everything she says but I still believe my portions are too big. Maybe I do need another fill. It's funny, once I'm "into" the meal I don't get anything stuck no matter how big the bite. It's just the first 5-8 minutes of the meal that I get stuck. I edited my profile. Thank you.

    Am I too old?

Try another insurance, if possible, or ask the docs if they take payments or credit cards. Just a thought....

    Am I too old?

Talk to people who have had it done. I was 66 when I had mine done. Everyone is different. I only lost 40 lbs and can't seem to get anymore off. Is it age? Maybe, or the fact that my parents were both big people. I'm not one bit sorry I had it done though because I couldn't even lose 10 before, and I'm keeping it off. I talked to a lot of people before making the decision and this forum is a good place to start.

Nooooo I was 66 when I had mine done. Never too old. I also take blood pressure medication.

    June Bugs?

How lucky you are. They didn't tell me what size band I have or how much they filled it but if I eat too fast... I get a sharp pain in my neck that makes it impossible to chew anymore. But I'm still hungry. So I wait until it goes away and then I eat more. The doctor wants to see me on the other side of 200 when I see him in Feb and I'm stuck at 207 - 205. I've been walking a mile or more a day.... it's just so hard! I thought once I had the surgery I'd be in a size 8 by now. Being 66 is rather a hindrance because I'm limited to what exercise, etc. I am able to do. But I'm hungry, hungry and hungry.

    June Bugs?

Question.... I was banded in June 2010 and so far have only lost 33 lbs. Is that normal? Even after my fills I can eat too much. I think it takes still too much food to fill me up.
  9. OMG! That all sounds so scary. I drink my Tylenol. Tastes better too. I haven't had an office fill yet. I'm still on the fill from surgery on 6/28 but I think I should have had one in July because I'm eating more, not gaining...but not losing either. I'm still eating about a cup to a cup in a half of food per meal, I'm walking about a mile or mile in a half per day and I can't budge from 209/210 (keeps fluctuating). So I'm disappointed that I'm still fat 2 months after surgery. Now my next appt. isn't until the end of Sept. I want a fill but now after reading so many of these horror stories I'm scared to death of getting the fill. My insurance will only pay for 20 aqua therapy's a year and I've already had 18 and my back is starting to hurt again. My last doc appt was mid July and I wonder why my next on isn't until end of Sept. Long wait. Do Fills hurt? Do the majority of people who get filled have problems?

Wow! What a difference. You look terrific. So much younger looking.
  11. I went from 238 to 209 and there I am stuck. I eat more than before but not half what I ate before surgery and now I walk about a mile a day. When you get old like me I guess it's harder. I don't go for a fill until mid Sept.

Glad you are doing well. I feel good even if I'm not losing more weight... I might be though because the doc said not to pay attention to the scale because the walking might be giving me more muscle. I put on my fanny pack today and could really see the difference... about 6 inches!!!

And the pictures.....wow! You look 15 yrs younger! I love the "do" too. Keep up the good work!

  12. So sorry... my words were not encouraging at all- because I'm too new at this to help much. I did pray for you and sent you thoughts of wellness a few times today. I kept looking for a reply and when there wasn't one... I hoped all was OK. The fact that you are feeling better today is an excellent sign. Even an unexperienced bander like me can tell you that. Sometimes I wonder if when we start feeling so much better we do a bit too much. I know myself it's been 4 wks and I feel great and my back doesn't hurt anymore, my knee isn't sore. I can do things I haven't been able to do in a while but have to remind myself..... go slow! Starting weight (first weigh-in) 238 Today 212 !!!!!!!!!!!!:scared2:
  13. OMG... I'd be a basket case. I've only had mine 4 wks now and hearing these things can happen scares me too. Please let us know!!! :bolt:
  14. Oh nooooooooooooooo!!!!! Maybe you are just eating too fast? That's when I get it. Could your last fill be too strict? I'll say a little prayer for you.... hope that helps. I'd call the office though.
  15. ohhh dear... no burp or hiccup! Just nothing at all. The only way I can tell is by the amount I've eaten. Just like before the surgery though... when I'm eating something that tastes good... I don't want to stop. Thank goodness most of this food isn't that tasty. LOL
  16. Hi Val, I live for this weather. Love it. Dread winter. I lost about the same as you... left hospital at 229 and today am 217. 12 lbs. 21 since starting the program. I open an envelope of Cream of Wheat and have yet been able to finish more than 1/2 of it. Eating slowly is the hardest part for me. Tonight we ate out. I felt hubby needed a treat. We went to Seneca Casino, Three sisters and he had one of their delicious Beef on Wecks with fries.... and I ordered mashed potatoes with turkey gravy. The waitress probably thought I didn't like them. I didn't even put a dent in the bowl they gave me. My problem is I can't feel when to stop and I must have stopped at just the right time because 10 min. later I felt overstuffed. I envy hubby... he eats and never gains an ounce. I must have bad karma....LOL:ohmy:
  17. Thank you... it's gone. :)

  18. I'm not sure which is the port... the biggest wound by the belly button? That isn't where it's sore it's on the left and a bit further down. It isn't pain, but an ache or tender spot. It only hurts when I bend over, or lie wrong.
  19. Do your insides still ache? My belly is still sore. Not the wounds but internal soreness. Is that normal?
  20. That's great news! They told me 3 wks to swim but this is going to be a hot weekend so I bought waterproof bandaids to put on my wounds.... just in case= because it won't be 3 wks until Monday. My wounds are healing beautifully. I just love watching the scale go in the down direction for a change.
  21. I'm on softies til Monday.... then they said I could start on regular food, but I'm afraid. What should I start with and any advice? Tonight's supper... creamed carrots and mashed potatoes...about 3 TBSPs of each... and I'm done. I am anxious to go to foods, but afraid and because I want the surgery to give me the best results I'd like to stick with low carb.
  22. He went on vacation July 1, for all his hard work I was hoping he'd get a longer vacation. Thought he would be off a month. He does one surgery after another! Very dedicated. I don't think you did so badly, 4.5 is good for being over a year banded. Look where you started... you are doing fantastic. Yes, I'm sticking with low carbs so I can lose the maximum amount while I can. Age definitely hinders progress. Curious as to what you guys will be eating at your picnic. Certainly not steak and fries.
  23. Dying to go swmming. I saw some waterproof bandaids in the drug store but too small I think. I have scabs on the wounds now. It's been two weeks. I guess I can wait another week... the weather will probably turn then.
  24. Low carb is the best diet in the world because you don't have to go hungry. Breakfast... 2 or 3 eggs w/cheese.... I chose scrambled because you can't have toast... bacon, ham, or sausage. No measuring but too much fat isn't good. A breakfast like that should last you until supper time...but if it doesn't, a snack of any cheese is good. I love cheese so it was not hard to do. The cheese will tighten those bowels too. If you should get hungry you can have tuna or chicken with onion, celery and mayo... eat with a fork (no bread.) very filling. Supper.... easy as pie. Whatever I made for my family minus the potato and bread. Also no peas, carrots or high carb veggies. You can have brussel sprouts, cauliflower, spinach, cabbage and asparagus. Snacks... I still make these. Make your own whippped cream with heavy cream, vanilla and Splenda. Mix cottage cheese, or ricotta cheese with whipped cream. A delicious pudding snack. I went from 228 to 209 in no time at all.... then I stopped. Problem for me is I'm 66 and it's really tough to get off after menapause. You will lose easy. EATING OUT is easy too.... I would order Souvaki, or steak and salad...or just a big salad. We went out for chicken wings once a week. (Probably too much fat, but no carbs.)
  25. So far the only tasty pureed meal I've had was the acorn squash pureed with salt and pepper. Oh the Campbells pea Soup was good too, but perhaps too many carbs???? Anyone have any good ones?
