  1. I have the same problem, and I find logging my food on MyFitnessPal helps a lot. If I have to log the food and actually see it on the screen, makes me think twice about eating more than I ought to!

  2. Just wanted to finally post my experience with Dr. Borland in Louisiana. I chose him because his self-pay price was only 9800 (my hubby wasn't comfortable with Mexico!) and he does the surgery outpatient (I had no desire to stay in the hospital)

His receptionist isn't the friendliest woman in the world, but she does answer all questions you have. You get your pre-op testing done at home with your own doc. From the time I inquired about surgery to the date of my surgery was less than 1 month. :)

You choose and pay for the hotel you stay at. I flew into New Orleans, and the drive to New Iberia was a few hours. You can also fly into Lafayette but its much more expensive. After surgery, Dr. Borland visits you at your hotel several times per day.

The surgery is done at the New Iberia Surgery Center. It's not super high-tech looking inside, but the nurse was very kind and competent and the whole surgery itself was a breeze.

Dr. Borland does not use a drain, and sent me back to my hotel with these inflatable stocking things to use to avoid blood clots. He prescribes liquid Vicodin for pain (I didn't use it--couldn't keep it down) and a suppository that helps with nausea and also puts you to sleep. My pain was very minimal; my biggest problem the first few days was vomiting up when I tried to drink.

I had surgery on Thursday and flew home to Wisconsin on Sunday with no trouble. Dr. Borland is available by cell whenever I need him, and always helps me out with questions.

If you're looking for an affordable surgeon in the US, I would definitely recommend Dr. Borland. He is top notch. He even gives you a flash drive with a video of your procedure, if you want to watch your sleeve be born :)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!! And no, I was not paid to write this review. Haha

  4. So help me out' date=' someone! I was just seriously railed against in another support forum for people who were sleeved in July of this year. The reason being, I expressed my concern about all of the comments from people who were already eating Hershey kisses, filet o fish (McDonald's), frozen yogurt, and Cookies.

Maybe I am the one missing the boat here, but that seems like very risky behavior to me. Even only if eating half the fried fish filet or only one cookie, this seems like an addict who only snorts one line of coke.

The people were very upset with me for pointing this out and expressing my concern (even though I didn't name anyone in particular). They said that they won't live their lives "counting calories" and "not enjoying their lives".

Am I missing something? I am counting every calorie of everything I eat! I am trying to analyze my behavior so I can compare it to what I was doing before surgery and learn from it.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be happy that I can only eat 1/2 a large order of fries??? That seems crazy to me, but maybe I am being too strict and setting myself up for failure.

    Someone, please help![/quote']

Sounds like you're on the right track. You are making good choices and looking long term. Unfortunately there isn't much point in arguing with addicts; they have to reach conclusions on their own. Keep your chin up :)

  5. Yes I love bariatric choice as well. Your statement though is wrong. Every time you order you gain rewards points. If someone has never ordered from there before they have no rewards points. You have to make orders to get points thus "discounts". Max my rewards credits means to use up all of your reward points gained from previous orders.

For me I didn't get the $20 off unless I clicked the "maximize" thing!

  6. My husband didn't want me to have the surgery. He finally "consented" when I found doable financing and was able to explain to him adequately how much of an emotional toll this whole lose/gain cycle was having on me. It also made him uncomfortable (with good reason) that I was having surgery halfway across the country with a man I'd never met. However, once he met the surgeon those fears disappeared.

  7. Okay' date=' deep breaths ladies!! It is actually quite touching how this worry comes up, like clockwork, here on the forum every few weeks, with every batch of new sleevers (this month I'm 3 years out). Here's the deal:

Though invasive, lap band surgery is nowhere near as traumatic as VSG, and the weight loss is different. Your body is recovering from major surgery, you just lost 80% of one of your vital organs, it's going to take time. [b']If you had just had your appendix removed, or gallbladder surgery, would you be humpin' it up within a week?[/b]

As for sex drive: once you have healed physically and the weight loss has begun in earnest, you will ABSOLUTELY see a change. A very funny, slightly alarming, change. :P As you begin to lose fat rapidly your body is flooded with all of the estrogen that was trapped in the fat cells, making you super super horny, a sexual T-Rex, a Sex Rex, if you will :). This usually happens around month 2 and you will be back here on the boards, posting about how you have become a sex maniac and you are draining the life fluids out of your SO and omg sex is SOMUCHFUN!! :)

That lasts for about 2 months on its own, but if you are instilling good exercise habits during that time, once you have lost a significant portion of your weight and have also become fit from all the exercise, you suddenly discover SKINNY SEX, and then there will be the phase of posts about that here :) All the positions you can suddenly do, the stamina you have, the sensations you receive because he can now go deeper than before, etc. etc.

So, in summation, this is all perfectly normal, there is nothing wrong with you, have some open dialogue with your SO, and above all, take tender care of yourself and give yourself time to heal.

This seriously made me laugh!! Thank you :)

  8. I followed all the guidelines from my insurance. The coordinator at my office took care of the rest. I had to see a nurse practitioner for 3 months in a row to document infections and skin breakdown. And that was about it. I was denied once and the coordinator appealed and i was approved.

    What is skin breakdown?

  9. I used to have a supervisor who was very religious, and one day he pulled me into his office to ask me if everything was ok. I was very confused and told him everything was just fine. He got this relieved look on his face and told me he couldn't get me out of his head all weekend, thought something might be wrong, and he'd been praying for me. I had NO IDEA what to say, so I just said "Thanks" and awkwardly left the room. So, so weird.

  10. Anyone else experiencing this? I'll lose 10 pounds' date=' stall for 2 weeks. Lose 10 more and stall for 2 weeks. I have noticed though that my bust waist and hips measurements going down and clothes fitting much looser. My dad even calls me "Slim" now...but still far from it. Just curious if this is normal or if anyone else is doing this?

Sounds like you kind of operate on a 3-week loss cycle. If it begins to bother you, maybe just weigh one per month :)

  11. Class action lawsuits are different for consumers versus regular lawsuits. You usually just have to sign up for it and then after a while you get a check in the mail if you won the lawsuit. You are not out any money and don't have to do anything but fill out a form. At least that's my experience.

Exactly. I just got my check from Skechers last week for $35 for the false claims they make with their Shape-Ups shoes :)
