  1. wow, maybe its me?? I cant believe folks are eating real food a week or so out from surgery?!?!? my doc says 2 weeks, but even with variations on docs orders, I wonder, doesnt your stomach need time to heal?? and OMG...5 hours of sliming...I am scared to death!! I'm prolly the crazy one..but I am kind of afraid to eat!!! two weeks out tomorrow, and all I've had is Water and Protein shakes...still pretty sore, too, although with my lifestyle, I have no choice but to do some lifting (my youngest triplet has cp..he's only 3 but solid!) so maybe thats it.......take care!
  2. Hello! My Name is Patty, and I am a stay at home mom to triplet 3 yr olds, and a 5 yr old. life is a little chaotic as you can imagine, and as most moms, I am the last on the list. I made the decision in April to get banded. My highest weight was 366, and once I made the decision to do this, I went on a low carb eating plan, and was an exercising fool...I lost close to 50 lbs pre op. I was banded on July 1st, and all went well...I had that horrible left shoulder gas pain, but I was walking pretty quickly, and it subsided....really exhausted though....!!! seriously!!!! I never run out of gas like this!! I hope this goes away soon... I havent eaten anything yet...I am drinking Water, and Protein shakes with Protein powder mixed in....kind of afraid of food....sound weird??? I really hate throwing up , and am afraid of food sticking.... looking forward to meeting some new friends!!! hope to hear from ya soon!!
  3. yikes!! I was banded on July 1, and have only had Protein shakes!!!! I would be scared to death of any kind of taco after not eating for so long....after the two week mark, I get the ok for mushies, then softs, but I wouldnt consider a taco , even a soft taco a soft food....I would think like mashed potato like would be more appropriate? you're still healing, so go slow!! and wait a good hour, ok, our docs say 2, dont know if I could do that though, before drinking!! your still healing so be careful!!

    Protein Shake help !

hi...! is that the rockin refuel?? I just checked it out, and it has 42 g od sugar??? yikes.....did you find a low carb one??
  5. wow, you're brave!!! to be honest though.....I'd be concerned you were pushing it??? I had my band in on July 1. prior to this, I lost about 50 lbs, and much of it was with power walking....like 5 miles a day some times, but at least 3 miles at least 5 x a week....average 18 minute mile...(my highest weight was 366, so I was pretty big, even though close to 6 ft tall)... so 10 days out, although I feel better, I am still exhausted...I walked two miles today for the second time in a week....took me 45 minutes...really slow for me, not even pushing it with the arms like I normally do....as the days go by I feel a bit better, but it felt like its going to take a long time to get back to where I was....just my story... by 3 1/2 weeks out though, you'd be on mushies and soft foods, though, right?? that includes things like cream of wheat, oatmeal, and the like, and you could also drink the low cal gatorade...just a thought...I still have some days where I have a hard time getting my Fluid in, and even then, if I drink too fast, it is really uncomfortable, and hiccups hurt ;( keep us posted, anyway!!!

    Banded July 1, HI, !!!

hi!! how are you doing!!?!? are you getting excited?? I have to tell you, when I only had ONE two yr old, there were days I thought I wasnt going to make it, lol!! everything is relative!! You know, you just keep doing what you do, and hope it all gets done before you fall over :cursing: my youngest son has cerebral palsy, its a mild case, but there is still some lifting that needs to be done, and even though he's only 3....he's big...not fat, but TALL and solid...so that has been tough...my mother in law was here for a week, thank God, but party's over now, right!! sooo....what have we gotten ourselves into..?? and what are you getting into??? a new you!! and us!!! and FINALLY some real hope!! like this time the weight will stay off!!!! listen, its the safest of the bariatric surgeries, no malabsorption, dumping, or slicin up your gizzards...totally reversible, but totally not the easy way out....its a tool like that treadmill...if we use the treadmill, we're good, if we hang clothes on it and never use it, well, you know...and studies show, that bandsters and bipassers...at 3 and 5 yrs out from surgery, have about the same weight loss...its not as QUICK. thats the thing...but when you lose weight quick, that can bring on other issues like gall bladder problems (been there!!) and really, err, the majority of the bipass stories I hear?? that the weight returns after a yr or 2...and then what??? and what exactly happens to that other part of your stomach you dont use if you have a bipass??? just a few thoughts. yes!! keep in touch!!! take care!

I'm glad your kids are helping you out!! and, btw, you ARE busy!!! everything is relative, right??:cursing: so how did your doctors appt go???? yes, I feel like this is a new start....I told my doctor that I didnt need this surgery to lose weight...I dont!!! none of us do!! hey, fat people are PROFESSIONALS at losing weight!! seriously, I'm sure I lost several hundred pounds in my lifetime....keeping it off?? well, yeah, not so great...thats where the band comes in , in my opinion for me....this does feel like a new start...it feels like this time IT MIGHT ACTUALLY STICK!!! WOOOOOOOT! take care!!

Hey there!!! my triplets are BBG as well, LOL...actually....every week since they could tell the sexes, they were BBB...every week...every high level ultrasound, different techs, you name it...when they came at 28 weeks, on the table, the boss was a girl...and she still is the boss....much to the chagrin of my 5 yr old girl who still thinks she's the boss...:cursing: I am not eating yet.....some days are better than others, yesterday I actually got in 4 Protein Shakes, and a ton of Water...today only 2 protein shakes, and prolly half as much water..I go on wed to get the staples out.... I am taking my Multivitamin, and my super b complex....yesterday it worked well, today , blah.....really exhausted, and like no oomph at all...I walked today, about 2 miles, the second time in a week.....I lost about 50 lbs pre op, and was a walking fool....really good powerwalking pace, but today, I was feeling I was really slow.....ah well, at least I did it....my mother in law left yesterday, so I am officially on my own with the troops...yikes~!!! I'm outside of Boston, and it has been huge heavy humidity here as well...I cant wait for fall!!! thanks for the note!! Patty

    Protein Shake help !

I was also banded on July 1st. You need the Protein to heal, so if you arent drinking the shakes, then get some whey Protein powder and add it into milk, or pudding or something....what kind of shakes are you using?? I like the EAS shakes a lot, especially the strawberry. the other thing I tried yesterday was : in a blender, pour 1 eas or atkins shake, cut up one sf fudgsicle, a scoop of vanilla protein powder, and a couple od tablespoons of Peanut Butter....YYYUUUM!! there are also protein waters that are good, like the Isopure waters...you should check out your local GNC, or health food store...I like the special k Water add ins..they add 5 grams of protein, but I am drinking the shakes so I dont need a super high protein water..... what about cottage cheese, or Soups?? I found a black bean Soup mix that is 16 grams of protein per serving (havent tried it yet) cottage cheese is great protein, and considered on the full liquid diet... hang in there!!!
  13. hello, I have only been banded for a few days, but I have been researching this for a long time....a few thoughts.... The lap band will give you the more normal lifestyle, while still losing weight. if you are not willing to make the lifestyle changes required for the band, then how will you do it for the bipass?? there are even more restrictions with that...in addition to the dumping syndrome, there are huge issues with malapsorption, as your intestinal track is re routed.. I cant imagine not ever being able to make Cookies at christmas with the kids, or sharing an ice cream cone...what the band does is help me with some normalcy...a bite or 2 instead of a dozen cookies....know what I mean?? again, as already stated , if you work it, it will work for you!! what I found interesting, is that when they did studies of banders and bipassers 3 yrs and 5 yrs out from surgery..the weight loss was about the same...a lot of bipassers gain the weight back, and banders lose slower and steadier...and SAFER! losing weight too quickly is not safe...I lost 180 lbs in a yr at one point, and ended up with huge gall bladder problems!! once you gain your weight back with a bipass, what more can be done for you?? I love it that the band can always be adjusted, and removed if necessary.....and I've always wondered what happens to that other half of your stomach you dont use if you have a bipass?? it just hangs out there and???? I am totally confident in my decision to get banded....but again..it is only a tool, and if your not serious about it, then perhaps neither surgery would be a good option at this time..... take care!!
  14. hi, this is disturbing, isnt it!?!? I too lost a lot after both of my c-sections, but it did stop.....ditto on the Protein check..you really cant overdo it there......hang in there!!!

    Shoulder pain...

hi. I had severe left shoulder pain the first few days as well....I was banded on 7/1/10. I was told the only way to get rid of it was to walk around.....so I have been walking...prolly too much...not feeling too great otherwise, but the shoulder's better  not burping...but HICCUPS! man they hurt!!!

    Banded July 1, HI, !!!

hey all!! thanks for the notes!! how are you 'all doing??? not a great day for me....I thought if I just pushed past the exhaustion and moved, I would get some energy back...so I decided to walk....about 2 miles...not powerwalking or anything...but it is HOT. HUMID. supposed to be 100 today...I did this in the morning, but it still got hot quick. so then I came home to the ac...felt like I was going to pass out, hadnt really had anything yet...so tried to pack in some more Protein to my shake....tasted really good, but too thick.....sipped it, but still feel yucky.......uggh....... hope you'all are having a great day!!!!! oh, I tried the special k Water mix ins....its like a juice powder, but it adds 5 g of protein to your water...pretty tasty!!! take care!! Patty

    Low Carb Banders Unite

hi! soo glad to have found this thread!! dont get me wrong...I *LOVE* carbs....but I cant lose weight with them ;( since I made the decision in April to get banded (7/1/10) I lost about 50 lbs pre op by low carbing and walking....its the only way I lose... I also just found out I am diabetic...woo. hoo. I mean. REALLY?? I carried TRIPLETS and never even had gestational diabetes..I lose almost 50 lbs, and NOW I am diabetic? so it looks like this is the way for me... I dont keep really good count of my carbs, and I dont count the carbs in the good veggies, cuz, hey, broccoli is great, but I dont do any starchy carbs...and very little fruit, although we have 8 tomato plants in our garden...wooot! thanks for Lindas website, and looking forward to meeting ya!! OOH.....who's got that recipe for deviled eggs??? I could go for one now!!
