    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi February Bandsters I am scheduled for surgery on February 13th I have to start my pre op CIB liquid diet Tuesday January 16th (4 weeks) I am looking forward to surgery but a little nervous about the liquid diet. My surgeon says I have a large liver that requires a extra 2 wks of diet to shrink it that much. It has been along journey that started back in July 06, a lot of hoops to go threw. Good Luck and lets keep in touch Terry

    Sorry for myself???

Hi Sherilynn I am scheduled Feb. 13th for Lapband Surgery. Weight loss with RNY is faster but that is all that is better. From what I have read about RNY you have a window of opportunity of 12 to 18 mths to lose your weight then it stops and a lot of people start gaining again as their pouch stretches. Fast weigh loss leaves a lot of loose skin to deal with that will require plastic surgery. With the band you will lose slower witch allows the exercise you do to help with the saggy skin as you go. The band is adjustable for life so you have a tool to control weight loss or staying at desired weight. These are some of the advantages of the band besides the others menchened in the above posts. I am sure it is the best choice for me with all considered and hopefully you will go with what is right for you. Good luck with your surgery and don't second guess yourself after all the time you have spent doing your research. Terry

    pre op diet

My Surgeon is putting me on a 4 wk Carnation instant breakfast plus protein supplement that consists of 5 shakes a day plus 20 grams of protein supp. I have a larger size liver, his normal diet is 2 wks It is to shrink the liver fat layer as well as the liver to make the surgery easy-er and shorter meaning faster recovery. I start it January 16th it will be a challenge :faint: Terry
  7. Hi Rachel I can relate to anxiety. I am scheduled Feb 13th and the excitement of finally getting approval and scheduling is giving in to anxiety. I have to start a CIB liquid diet Jan 16th for 4 wks, that seems like a life time I hope I find the strength to get thou that. As for the not getting to eat it never again I am guilty of last time syndrome, eating every favorite food because it would be the last time ever. I just started realising that is not true, some day I will be able to in smaller and wiser amounts. GOOD LUCK Terry

    Hello!

Thanks for the replies Courtney and Tracy I live in Northwest Wisconsin, (Hayward) Duluth Mn is about 70 miles away. I went there today for RN and Dietitian appointments. I have to start CIB liquid diet January 16th. It will be a challenge to do it 4wks pre op and then 2 wks post op the RN said the extra 2wks pre op will shrink the liver more to make the surgery easy er and help get it out of the way, otherwise they would have to do the surgery open instead of lap. I think the extra 2wks of CIB is a much better option. Well I am starting to get the thing together for diet and trying to prepare mentally:faint: I will keep you all posted. Thanks Terry

    Hello!

Hi fellow Wisconsin Bandsters or to be Bandsters I finally got my insurance company pre authorization for surgery and have got my surgery scheduled at last. Date is February 13th It has been a long journey with many hoops that started back in July 06 with the info seminar and there are some more hoops between now and then such as RN and Dietitian appointment Tomorrow (2nd one) Pre op physical by primary Physician, Clearance exam by Cardiologist but this is all down hill . I also have to get diet plan from dietitian to start pre op diet 5wks before surgery because of a larger than normal liver that requires a lot of shrinking. Has any one else heard of this? Well I am very excited after all this time but now the nerviness and fear are starting to set in with the reality of this. I hope to get some support and reassurance from you fellow Bandsters that only you can give. My wife and family are very supportive witch is GREAT but you gals and guys have first hand knowledge. Thanks in advance Terry

    Minnesota Folks

Ericsmom I found out a co-worker at the school I work at is having the band on October 10th and he has asked if I will be his mentor. I said I'd love to and told him that his homework was to check out this site. He'll be having his surgery in Duluth, MN at St. Mary's just like I did, but with the other surgeon who is skilled in this procedure, Dr. Medland...I've heard good things about him as well. Keep us posted on your journey to lapband land... How did your co-workers surgery go? Is he a member on this forum? Would like to hear his opinion on things. I am waiting for my surgery date to be scheduled with Dr. Medlin. I live in Hayward Wi. but having surgery at St Mary's can't wait for this to happen it has been going on since July lot of hoops. 16. Hi my name is Terry I am still pre op been going though hoops since July 2006. I see the Surgeon on November 9th and will get Surgery in Late December or early January. BMI 54 5ft 9in 366 lbs my goal is 185. That seems so unreal. The least I can remember weighing is 225 in 7th grade, I was 6 ft then so 185 was sometime in grade school LOL. I am excited and scared at the same time .:faint: This place looks like a great place for support the kind only someone how has walked in your shoes can give. Thanks!! Terry
  17. Hi !! My name is Terry I am in the process of getting the Lap-Band Surgery . I started this in July 2006 When my wife and I attended the informational seminar that my Cardiologist recommended, it took till October to get my appointments for the Surgeons R.N., dietitian and psychological evaluation. I have an appointment to see the Surgeon November 9th to go over every thing one on one. Then they will take all that paper work and summit it to the Insurance company for pre- authorization. When they receive it they will then give me the next Surgery appointment witch will be in late December or early January. The Surgeon doing the surgery is Walter Medlin M.D., F.A.C.S from Saint Marys Duluth Clinic in Duluth MN. The Bariatric team feels that if you have to go though all the hoops and time that you are sincere and not acting on a whim or fad. I cant wait to get the surgery:clap2: but also somewhat scared. I am new to this Forum it looks very helpful and supportive.
