  1. No one is a support group should single out a few individuals and bully them, especially the psychologist. If the Dr feels particular patients would be better served by GB during a support group (a group you go to for support) would not be the appropriate place to make that assertion. It certainly isn't professional.
  2. We will be together 15 years this August  I'm glad to know there are others out there like him - it gives me hope for my daughters.
  3. That is totally out of line. It is not his job to recommend ANY medical procedure over another.

    Sabatogers / My Boss

Maybe you should get a basket and tell her it is for all of her treats because you normally don't eat that way and didn't really know where to put the stuff. Get a deep basket and put it on top of the fridge and that will help keep things out of sight.
  5. I called Tricare and asked if the wait was too long could I go offbase and they said yes if the clinic at NMCP released my referral. I would like to get the surgery done onbase, but in a reasonable amount of time. I know that it used to be years, but I've heard the wait is significantly shorter lately.
  6. It went really well. I love the Dr. I have. His father is the same kind of Dr and so is his brother. I think that is kind of awesome. Anyway, my sleep study is scheduled for May 5th and the follow-up is May 14th. I wish it could be sooner because I know I will feel so good after getting a CPAP machine and a real night of sleep. Does anyone know if I will get the machine from the specialist or my PCM? How long does it take to get the machine? I am Tricare Prime BTW. I am feeling so good about moving forward and getting out from under all this literal and figurative weight.
  7. Yeah, the one time I'm glad I have sleep apnea....

    soooo excited!!! :)

    That is fantastic!
  9. I was fortunate enough to be spared being a heavy child, but my mother was very large when I was a kid. She would always tell me about all the plans she had for when she lost weight, what she would do and who she would go see. I could never understand why she would wait to live until she was thin (which only came in her 40s and via a self-destructive route). When I started to gain as an adult, I remembered what my mom had been through and knew I would never let the weight make me feel like a bad person. It has, however, shown me what bad people other can sometimes be.
  10. We were eating at Texas Road House and my daughter picked up a round peanut and said "this is the same shape as you". A few months before she had told me "Mommy, it's ok. You aren't the only fat lady in the neighborhood. You know, Miss Christy.." She was trying to be sweet but it came out in such a bad way.
  11. I am just starting my journey with this. We are military too. The Bariatric clinic at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth told me BMI 35 with co morbidity or 40 without. HTH
  12. I just make the BMI requirement for the Lap Band. I really do need it, I have been living with weight issues for too long. However, the wait for the surgery is 9-12 months. If I lost even 15 lbs I might not qualify anymore. Do I intentionally not lose weight this year? That feels so fundamentally wrong. Also, I really don't want to spend another year this big. Ont he other hand if I lost some weight I know it will come back sooner or later because it always does and I will regret missing the opportunity to have the Lap Band. What to do?
  13. I am using Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in VA. I had heard that it was very difficult to get a network provider, but I am willing to check it out. I got a referral for the sleep apnea the same day I got the referral for the Lap Band. I have to call tomorrow and make an appointment for a sleep study.
  14. I have sleep apnea, two pinched nerves in my back, and had my gallbladder out two years ago. I also need a breast reduction that I cannot get because my BMI would have to be less than 30. As it is, my BMI is 37.5 If the only weight that counts for qualification is the first weight that will be great. My orientation is in two weeks so then I can ask about that. I know the weight list is that long because I am having it done at a military facility and other who have had it done there have waited that long.
  15. I have an orientation appointment in a few weeks. I have to admit I am a bit disappointed to learn there is nearly a year long wait
