    holy crap!!!!

LOL....I was banded on 3/30 and TODAY was my episode. Talking & eating at lunch. (I'm a teacher so heaven forbid there be a realistic time frame for lunch) And then....wham-O! I could feel the bubble just under the food and I just prayed...please let it gurgle loose, cause I really don't wanna barf! LOL  Needless to say....I survived, I walked it off for a couple of minutes and the rest of lunch was either A) chewing or talking...not trying to do both! Too funny!:bounce:

    Bad GAS 2 days post-op.

Ok...here's my suggestions for gas pains, takem' or leavem'.... 1)I took a LOT of Gas X as well as poking a hole in a Mylanta (for gas) gelcap and putting in my liquid drink. 2)Walk, walk, and more walk..... 3)I slept on my sides. This is advice I was given from a nurse friend of mine that said it would help the bubbles move through (or toward) the intestines and thus be expelled. Now....about 5 days after surgery, the porceline god and I were buddies for about 20+ mins. and since...nary a gas pain. As for the left shoulder pain....port influenced I'm afraid. I remember reading a post on here mentioning that the pain in the shoulder could be an aggrivated nerve near the port radiating up to the shoulder. I have since found this to be true. When my port is achy or has been strained a bit, my left shoulder hurts. If I turn wrong in bed....thus pulling things, THEN...the shoulder. Best of luck, we're all in this together. Hope it helps!

    PBS special on FAT

Hey, has anyone seen the PBS special about FAT in America. I heard about it on the Today show a couple of days ago and lo and behold....it happened to be on last night. It's an interesting incite to the different variations of living with obesity. Comments? :cry

    anyone take gel capsules?

I just pick the item that will help them not be noticable to the taste. I do it on my soup, my drink, etc. I just want them to be something I can choke down...cause for me, the Eve. Primrose is a major player in the PMS dept. My hubby even told me to ask the Dr. when I could begin taking it again....lol! It really helps my PMS symptoms. I hope that answers the question.

    anyone take gel capsules?

I just cut them open and drip them over something. I do that with my Vit E & Evening of Primrose Oil.

    Crushing Meds right after surgery

Check with your Dr., I was told that time released meds might be something I could no longer do.
  8. I don't have my mom giving me grief, but my MiL. Frankly...I don't say anything to her about this unless she now asks. Both my hubby and I have weight issues...which she constantly gives him heck about. So, you'd think that she'd be pleased about the decision...but NOOOO. So, unless your mom asks about it specifically, come here, to the boards and share, discuss, etc. OH...and I thought that since my best friend had bypass surgery back in Jan that we'd be able to share the experience of the changes. Here too, I've been surprised about the awkwardness of discussing things. So, what do I mean by all this....find folks that are supportative, whether it's your family or not. Those are the folks that will help you through this. Besides, that's why we all came here in the first place.
  9. I'm only 7 days out myself and everytime I eat I feel FULL. I'm glad cause I sure thought it would be hard to tell full, but nope, full is full...LOL. It only comes after about 6-8 oz. of Soups, liquids, etc. so I figure that's normal. I am paying attention to how my body responds to things and trying to make sure I don't overdo. Keep yer chin up! :clap2:

    burping after eating??

I found that I was reallllllly eating too fast or I was taking too big of a bite. I was banded a week ago, but once I took more time and smaller bites, the baby burps went away. Good luck

    Marchies In April

I had a friend just before surgery recommend this book, so I too am working my way through it. Also, I found out one of my friends that's had the RNY surgery is reading it. It's a neat premise....so far I find it facinating. Keep me posted on what you think. :typing:

Pain Relief - Need some advice.

I had surgery on 3/30. My pain was gas related....really. I took Lortab for the first couple of days but drank as much water as possible and moved around the apartment. I also had some advice about sleeping/resting on my sides to assist the gas collecting and moving out of my system. Needless to say....by Tue....WAM-OH, gas gone!! (The porceline god was being worshiped!) So...as the gas moves, that could be the lessening of the pain as well. Best of luck! :clap2:

    Marchies In April

Also, I'm very tight in the chest of a morning (think this is also exasperbated by sleeping on my back all night) - it takes a few hours for me to feel normal - is this the case for everyone? Have a great day Marchies! Cate Cate, I too feel that way in the AM....I've found that if I do something warm for breakfast, it helps. I'm only a few days out from surgery, and I noticed this in the last couple of days, compared to the rest of the day. I don't know if it comes from sleeping on your back, because I sleep on my sides...I couldn't stand sleeping in a chair from the get go. So...warm & yummy is my solution to the tightness in the AM...best of luck. :high5:

    Marchies In April

Well, it's done. 3/30/07...FINALLY! Surgery went well, but I'm one gassy gal. I bubble from shoulders to hip mostly in the evenings. Things are going well, and I look forward to the time when I won't have these gas pains. Otherwise...the liquid stage is great (after a month of protein drinks for pre-op). Ahhh, flavor! Glad to hear everyone's doing well.

    Heartburn?

A suggestion that was given me was sleeping on my left side, to help the gas in my system begin to exit the digetstive tract. I know that the gas pains for the last 2 days have been horrible. But this afternoon, I had a major explosion and viola, I'm not hurting like I was. I do know that the gas gurgles are what most of my pain comes from....the pain in my chest feels like small bubbles around my pouch...cause I can feel things emptying from the pouch, but the pain is sometimes still there. So...gas-X in the afternoon & evening, sleeping on my side during naps & at night....and life slowly going back to normal. (Only eating WAY less than before!)

    PreOp Diet Weight Gain

I had to do the protein shakes 2x daily with small evening meal for a MONTH. It kicked me into Ketosis and there the weight went. I would suggest checking with the Dr. and see what they say. They might want you just on the shakes.... I know that with my evening meal I couldn't have anything that would even remotely resemble a carb. I could do leafy green....but not much else with my 4-6 oz. protein. I lost 10 lbs and surgery is Friday. YIPEE!

When should I tell my parents?

Personally...if you're close to them, especially your mum....then you should tell her, because she'll be hurt when she finds out otherwise. Secondly...what if, GOD FORBID, you are seriously hurt/die. Surgery is surgery...no matter how "less invasive" it may be and I would not want the last thing my parents thought was that she was too scared, etc. to tell us. Sorry for the abruptness of this, but they are your parents....and you say you love them....let them know. Just my 2cents :girl_hug:
  18. Although I'm a newbie...actually...Friday I'll be a newbie, a gal in my support group mentioned that she found it better to focus on things (she'd been out about the same amount of time as you) when she came to the group meetings. People to share ideas with as well as here on the boards. Hope this helps. :girl_hug:

    Pre-Op diet Protein Shakes..

About a month ago there was a whole long thread about folks different types of Protein brands and their favs. Do a search on pre op diet or Protein shakes and you'll find the info. Mine...I like the 6 star from Walmart....with skim or unsweetened soy. Been on them for a month...so ready for next Friday, 3/30. Good luck!
  20. :faint:I too had this same reaction when I was out shopping for the scrips & such yesterday. My surgery has moved to 3/30 and I thought since I had a sub for my class, I would shop for my items needed postop. Well one of the things on my list from the Dr. I wasn't sure about so I asked a friend...needless to say hilarity ensued once I realized WHAT the item on the list was for....colon cleanse! (Her words, not mine) Thus....since the preop instructions have me do this about 1:30 pm the day before...I'm taking a 1/2 day Kity....the sub can have them after that! I'm ready for Spring Break anyway, so there ya go! :guess

    March 2007 Bandsters

Hi all...just an update...surgery moved to 3/30...2 days later. Turns out the surgical routine got out of sync and thus the need for the move.

    Teachers And The Band

Hey Kity....my banding date is 3/28. Looks like we're both doing the 3 days before break and then off during the break for recoop. I planned things that way so I would do most of the liquid stage at home instead of at school. I know that by the time I go back to school I'll be moving onto mushies. So...here's to us, may banding be successful!
  23. I too jumped off the wagon this weekend. I had to do the pre-op thing for a month before surgery (3/28) so...I've already had a long time with the dieting. I've only lost 10 lbs although I've not cheated until this weekend. As for today...I hopped back on things and hopefully that will jumpstart the losing again, cause it really sucked to be only 10lbs gone for a week and a half. I've got a tad over a week left....FINALLY! Patience isn't always my strong suit.
