The last time I was this size, I was....
SVM10 replied to LeighaMason's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Adagray, I too got pregnant with my one and only child when I was a few pounds less than I am now. At the time I got pregnant, I had just lost 50 lbs. However, there is no chance of that this time, trust me. I am anxious to get down to the weight I was when I did get pregnant about 15.5 yrs. ago and then some. -
How do you find time to do it all? Having time issues....
SVM10 replied to amey_idaho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A protein bar for a snack would help a lot. It would hold you for 2-3 hours until you cook or get a real meal. I found one that is like a Payday candy bar and the Zone bars are good, too. Good Luck & God Bless You. -
Thanks everyone for helping me get to ONEderland!
SVM10 replied to Froggie D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats Froggie D! It has to be onderful. I will be there is 8.5 pounds and absolutely can not wait to join you. See you soon. -
I love Olive Garden and have eaten there a few times post surgery. I found that getting a dish that is moist is the key, even with a pasta. I cut the pasta up really fine and always get a chicken dish. I LOVE their salad. Good luck and enjoy.

4th of July Challenge!
SVM10 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually lost 5 lbs. this week. The most since the first week after surgery. I got a fill a week and a half ago and it has slowly started to help some. I get full somewhat faster. It helps that I am in an intense educational training M-F from 8-2:30pm, last week and the next 2 weeks. I have a protein drink for breakfast, take a light lunch (we only have 30 min.), and eat a light dinner. I did 2.5-4.5 miles on the treadmill most days (amount depended on how I felt). Normally, I would be starving with this much smaller amount of food, but I feel rather well. Good luck to everybody. I'm not sure if I will lose 9.5 lbs. by July 4th, but I am 8.5lbs. to onderland and I am thrilled. -
Does anybody get an occasional vague pain which kind of feels like a shock?
SVM10 replied to dario's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get something like that in my port area as well. It is like a twing or shock kind of felling at the port site. I thought it was just me. Surely its nothing major. -
eating sooner than allowed
SVM10 replied to kimp64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I has hungry by day 5 and I started the mushies that evening. I started each stage a week or two early. I have progressed okay. I am averaging about 1.5lbs a week in weight loss. As long as you are careful to chew well and eat good foods, you should be fine. Getting your protein and exercise is the key. -
Travel Plans? Advice please!
SVM10 replied to Sweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my local WLS support group meeting Tuesday evening and I found out something I had never heard before. The nurse told me that you must drink only liquids 2 days before a flight and 1 day after a flight because the altitude will cause the band to close or shrink. I am flying to CA from MS (about 4 hrs.) in July. -
4th of July Challenge!
SVM10 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd like to participate as well. This is my first challenge. I was banded on March 15th and will be the big 40 on June 21st. I would like to lose 19 lbs. by July 4th. Hopefully my second fill scheduled for June 1st will help. Good luck everybody. -
Barbwired, my second fill is scheduled for June 1st also. Let's pray it works for us. I couldn't tell any difference after my first fill a week and a half ago. (fingers crossed)
-
I had problems with wearing underwire bras immediately after surgery and about a month afterwards. I still occasionally have discomfort with them. I had to cut the wires out of a few to make it through and entire week initially. I didn't notice any discomfort after my first fill last week.
-
Mary, you are so not alone. I did liquids for one week and added everything else to my diet a week or so early because I was hungry and had nothing in my band. I got my first fill last week and can not tell any difference. I am doing okay as far as weight loss (I struggled for a couple weeks though), but it could be better if I totally stuck to the instructions. You will have weak moments, just don't live there. Good Luck!!

What was the most difficult to get used to post-op?
SVM10 replied to Lch8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forget about the carbonated drinks. I don't them much so I guess that's why I forget and I have drank 2 since surgery and didn't have any problems. -

Testing???????????????????? -
I am 6 weeks out and still have bloating sometimes. It may be something we have to deal with. Sorry
-
Hey Everybody, I was banded on 3/15/10. I am down 23.5 pounds since pre-op. I too, will be glad when I can say I'm down 50lbs. I live for that day. I'm trying to set small goals as I go like the 20's by certain date the teens by a certain date, etc. It is great know I'm not alone.

What was the most difficult to get used to post-op?
SVM10 replied to Lch8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not drinking with meals is by far the hardest thing for me to do. Eating slowly and smaller bites is a challenge when I am really hungry. However, my body lets me know almost immediately when I do eat too fast or take bites that are too big. I start hiccuping, trying to burp, and/or feel a build up in my chest. -

I had my first fill (4ccs) on 4/28/10 and can not tell much difference at all. I guess it will take a couple more fills. We are all in this together. Thanks so much for sharing. I need all of this information to stay sane. -

I feel the same way, I wish I had seen this site prior to surgery on 3/15/10. My expectations were all wrong. I expected to lose 5lbs a week. I went for my first fill this past Wednesday and he was like, you should be losing 1.5-2 lbs a week. I thought to myself, now you tell me after I have stressed and felt like a failure for the past 5 weeks. I lost 7 lbs the first week and have lost 23.5 lbs. total (9 pre-op and 14.5 post-op). I have been walking for the past 3 weeks and he told me to start doing full body workouts. This post is much needed because I posted my discouraged thread a couple weeks ago. Thanks so much!!! -
Hi Everyone, I had my band on 3/15/10. I lost 7 lbs. the first week and 1.5 the second week, and gained 2 lbs back. I was so hungry by the end of week one I started soft foods by the second week. The second week i could drink 12 oz. and now I can drink 16 oz. Has anyone else had these issues, if so, what did you do to get back on track. My first fill is not until April 26th. I can't eat nearly what I could before surgery and seems like I should be at least losing a couple lbs. weekly. I am walking more, but not a lot. I'm trying to slowing build to longer distances. Any input would be appreciated. :bored:
-
My doctor did give me strict guidelines, but I have done everything a week ahead of schedule and hope I haven't harmed myself or the band in any way. I am eating soft veggies, almost any meat (chewing well), and anything soft, not high in fat or calories. I am increasing my exercise despite not being very active before surgery. I'm hoping to be up to walking 2 miles a day (four days a week) by the end of this week. Jen, you are doing really well for being banded less than 2 months. Thanks for the advice. I think I need to stop weighing everyday,it is a hard habit to break, like not drinking during meals.
-
Thank you for your input. It sounds like measuring the food is the key. This may be a dumb question, but exactly how do you measure meat? I have had food stuck only once that made me vomit, thank God. I have come close a number of other times though. At least I know I am not alone. I am so glad this site was suggested to me.

Hey, I had the band done on March 15th also. I went back to work on March 22 and am doing well physically. I lost 9 lbs before surgery, 7lbs, the first week after surgery and 1.5 lbs the second week. The third week I have gained and lost 2lbs. every other day or so. I am very disappointed in my progress. I thought I would have lost more by now.
