I work in OR. I can honestly say is it the most common surgery we preform. I am not sure if the statement is true. Just that it is a very common procedure.
-
Oh yes. Ladies come into the OR all the time on their periods. God Bless them, if surgery isn't enough, they get to wear a large pad and a pair of party panties.
-
Well I can tell you from working in the OR it could be a number of things the biggest one being anatomy. Maybe with your anatomy, they just couldn't access the site well enough to do a quality repair.

Yip! I started pre-op diet this past Thursday. I am High Protein/Low Carb diet so I consider myself lucky too. it has been only two days and I am already tired of meat. I just have to remind myself that it could have been liquids for three weeks....So hang in there! My B-day (band day) is July 21st......I couldn't be more excited!
-
Ugg......two days into the meat eating fest and I am sick of it! All I want is a cupcake! It seems like I am eating nothing but meats and cheese and a ton of sodium! Somehow lost 5 pounds in two days. I am struggling with this one. I just don't believe in cutting out carbs. Must stay on track. Just 20 more days to go.

I work with a surgeon who did not advise highly on the sleeve due to the higher complications and risks factors. Definitely do your research. I thought I was going for the sleeve too. Changed my mind after reading the stats.

Note to self: Stock up on Gax-X melt-a-ways.
(surgery July 21st with possible Hiatal Hernia repair too).

No weights.....if your doc finds out that you were trying to cheat your way to surgery he could refuse service. After all, you are much more of a liability if you can't follow standard protocol. I didn't have any co-morbidities my BMI was enough to get approval in less than 1 business day. Have faith in the system.
Best wishes!

Philly, it is quite possible that you won't have to wear them once you reach a certain weight. I wear them however I don't have edema. I wear them so I don't get it! They are also really good for circulation if you stand on your feet all day (which I do). Me? I am hoping my snoring goes away! Best of luck!

I can't wait to take my to the Goodwill. July 21 is my surgery date. I will be having someone drive me to the Goodwill on July 22. Not kidding. I am super excited about this!

I have been trying to get to Onederland for 5 years....failed every WW try. Getting banded in July. Hope to be there by Christmas. Congratulations! A very nice achievement!
-
Oh no! You will miss the midnight showing of Eclipse! LOL! Looking forward to seeing the movie tomorrow night. More so looking forward to my surgery in July. Just look at what you will be gaining. By Christmastime, you will need a new winter coat! Best wishes for a speedy recover! Hugs!

My surgery is scheduled for July 21. My doc requested that I go high protein/low carb diet and loose as much weight as possible during surgery.
Question is, what did you eat if you followed this diet plan? And low carbs? How low is too low? He didn't give me a number. I feel like I need a number. Calling the office is difficult because I can't really make calls during the day.
I made out some meal plans for the next few weeks and tried to stick to less than 20 carbs a day. I just feel that is a little low.
What did your Dr. recommend?

Just wanna send hugs! All will go well! I have heard (and I don't know if it is true) that there is more chance of dying in a car accident than there is in surgery. I work in a OR and I have never seen or heard of a patient dying that wasn't a gun shot or car accident patient. They will want to give you Versed. Take it! It will help with the nerves and you won't remember much from taking it. Hugs some more!

My paperwork was submitted on Wednesday June 2nd and I was approved on Thursday June 3rd. Can't wait to have my surgery scheduled!
-
You are definitely not alone when it comes to anesthesia and being scared. It is the only thing about surgery that I am afraid of and I work in an OR. It does effect everyone differently and each time you are put under, you can react differently. Just be honest with your CRNA when he or she comes to interview you before surgery. Best of luck!!

Thanks! Very helpful. Consult didn't happen today. NUT was double booked. Rescheduled for Friday.
-
Sending hugs! Lots of them. What an experience! Sounds like you held up well during the trip provided that your son was in an accident, the critical condition of his passenger and they fact that your pre-op diet had started. Sending extra hugs. Certianly hope the young lady recovers well.

I would be more worried about adhesions than scars! The scars will be tee-niny!
-
I would call your doc and talk to him, let him know you are having uncontrollable poo! You could be dehydrated or well on your way there.
Take care of yourself!

I am soooo curious as to where the shoulder pain comes from? Someone clue me in!
