I went the day after I got home. I know that doesnt help you feel better but my nurse did prep me for Constipation. She said it is VERY normal to have hard poops after any surgery.Ive had 4 surgeries and have never had that problem. However, I was so convinced it would happen this time that I took my nurses advice and bought some milk of magnesia. It sits unused in my cabinet, wish I could give it to you:smile2:.
I figure if they tell all their patients to go ahead and buy a mild laxative, then this is a common and normal issue.
I think this is a side effect of the anestesia.
You can do it girl, take the browns to the superbowl:lol:
lol That last part was great! Now when my time comes I'm going to be sitting in the bathroom laughing.

Thank you everyone for your response. I have a post-op appointment with my Doctor tomorrow so I will ask him about some milk of magnesia.

Ok, since I have not had a fill yet, I was banded on 6/30/2010, I am not positive which incision is for the port, but I think it is the one farthest to the left, since pre-op he told me it would be on the left side. But I can tell you from day one I still slept on my side, and I could lay on my stomach very shortly after that. I have 5 small incisions, most of them are under an inch long, the longest one is where they place the band threw, and it is more like 2 inches, I have not had much pain from any of my incisions, I mean if you rub them they are tender, like you would expect, but they don't really hurt. The one for me that is most tender is the top one, it is maybe two inches above the longer one for the band, and a couple of times I stretched to reach for something and I felt a pull there, so I think it is taking longer for that one to heal, but that is my fault really. I also had a hiatal hernia repair done at the same time so that may be effecting that area too. I only have one incision that is low enough for my pants to bother it, but it is on the right, so I don't think it is the port, I think it is just lower because I already had a scar on that side from a gall bladder & appendix surgery years ago, so I think he was just avoiding that old scar tissue. I can't feel anything particularly harder than the normal incision hardness right now so the port is not bothering me at all:rolleyes2: I only took pain meds after the surgery for the back pain, I didn't need them for the incisions, and the back pain was not horrible. PamWhoa! Sounds alot like what I'm going through now. I was banded on Friday the 16th. I had a hernia repair done as well and sometimes I wonder if thats whats hurting me, don't think it's the port though then again I'm not sure. I was also wondering if the back pain was normal and I guess my question has been answered :tt2:

Hello and welcome! I'm from Cali too!

You are just going to do great! :puke:Take it a step at a time.
First, surgery - it is not horrible, but not comfortable either. Get up and walking as soon as you can, and drink, drink, drink. You do not want to get dehydrated and end up on IVs - not a planned part of the process.
Second, heal. Do not focus on weight loss. Tell yourself you are following all the steps your doctor lays out to help you heal - then if you lose weight, it is a bonus!
Third, create habits. Practice eating on schedule, eating the things you are told you can eat in smaller portions than before surgery, and eat slowly. Water is a huge part of this habit step.
Fourth, fills. Go in for fills. I was terrified, but it is nothing. A tiny stick and you are done. You may have some restiction from surgery swelling, but it goes away after a while. You will not have real restriction until your fills start. Again, do not expect miracles. Just keep working on step three.
Fifth, get moving. As you recover from surgery and feel better, start walking. As you start losing weight bump it up and do more.
Sixth, enjoy! Keep track of your weight loss, keep track of your inches and watch the change! Think frequently about what feels different - breathing better; clothes looser; blood pressure, blood sugar, and pain decreasing; buying new clothes, hearing compliments. These things are even better than the pounds and inches.
Remember, it s a journey, not a miracle that happens overnight. However, in a few months you will feel like it has happened so fast.
Lastly, always read, andf feel free to post and ask questions. There are no dumb questions. Feel free to vent and express and talk about your emotions - and you will have many! It helps to share and there are many of us who will support you along the way.
Good luck and let us know how your surgery goes!!!!!!!

I just started a blog a few days ago. I was worried about not having anyone follow it... but I decided that even if nobody follows my blog I'm still going to do it because I know it will help me through this journey. :confused:Same here. I started one today and like you if nobody follows my blog I'll keep doing it to help me through my journey.

Funny that you mention this cause this morning I was thinking about doing the same thing. But wasn't sure if anyone would follow it.

@dhigg68 - I guess the pre-op diet depends on your Doctor. But I'm sure you won't regret this surgery at all, just think of how great you'll feel at the end.
Good Luck and Congratulations!

Penn, I can't wait to get under 200 lbs! Honestly I can't remember the last time I was under 200...pretty sad. It'll be intresting to go through a whole day without being hungry once, I'll probably Celebrate when that happens..lol
Well good luck with your next approval and surgery

@pennreporter - Yeah completely understandable it's one of the risks, guess it just depends on the person huh. I'm a worry wart thats a fact but I'm slowly feeling a little at ease with reading peoples entries on here.
Looks like you've lost quite a lot, congratulations!! Can't wait to be on the losers bench!
