  1. Hi snowy! I am in the same process as you are. I have been reading posts here and have decided to go ahead and start the journey too! I have been to a seminar, but that was back in October, so I am going to another one on the 1st of april. I have an appointment on april 6th with the weight loss clinic to go over my insurance stuff, and after that I don't know what will happen, except that once it starts, I am going to hit the ground running! susi

    Good Crockpot recipes?

For anyone who has Facebook, there is a great great group called the crockpot recipe exchange. I have been following this group for weeks now, and have gotten many many great recipes! Since then I have been crockpot cooking almost every day. Here is a good recipe that is really simple and tastes good too! Creamy Potatoes and Kielbasa 1 28 oz bag Potatoes O'Brien (or plain frozen hashbrowns) 1 lb kielbasa cut in 1/4" slices 1 can cream of mushroom Soup 1 c shredded cheese 1 cup chopped onion 1/2 c Water seasonings to taste Combine all in crockpot and cook on low 6-8 hours. (this is what the recipe says, but i cooked it for 5 and it had more of a thick potato soup soup like quality) This is really mushy and I think could be blended up for people in the mushies stage, if the outer skin of the kielbasa is trimmed off, or totally ommitted) I have a ton more recipes that I can post if anyone wants them! Coconut curry chicken is one of my favorites, as well as Thai Peanut pork!

    Crockpot Mexican Chicken Recipe

I am so excited to see this thread! I have been collecting crockpot recipes for about a month now, and crock cooking almost every day since. I was wondering if all these great recipes would go to waste if I get the lapband, and now I see that they won't if I modify some a bit. I can share a lot of great recipes if anyone wants them!

    Wlia?

I am just barely starting this journey, and would like to meet some local people who have used WLIA.
  5. OMG!!! After reading this thread, y'all have me terrified about getting banded! I am a very fast east eater and take big ole bites of food... maybe it's time to start chewing more when it's way way wayyyyyy before I get the band....
  6. I have attended WLIA's seminar and I was very impressed with what I heard. My only concern was that they were only located on the east side of the valley and I am on the west side. But.... they have just opened a clinic at Banner Estrella Hospital which is very close. Another good thing is that my insurance is with Banner, and they only approve WLS at Banner facilites!

    Looking into lap band.

Hi BritBrit, I am in the same spot as you are. I went to lap band seminar back in Oct 09, and was not ready to make the appointment for the insurance consultation. I have not really thought about until recently, but the cost was too restrictive. I just recently found out that my insurance with cover more than half of the hospital costs, so I have been reading everything I can the past few days to get information, and get an idea what people have gon thru on their journey. I have an appt on April 6th to see what the insureance will cover, and what their precerts are. I feel like this is the first step, so I am happy for that!
  8. Reading these posts has been really interesting to me! I have gone thru two sleep studies, and they were both awful. How they expect you to sleep with the wires and such, I don't understand! The first time was probably the worst for me because I was severely depressed, (I have bipolar disorder) and to top it off, while I was there, my daughter who was 15 at the time called to tell me that her stepfather had let her drive the car into the garage, and she had crashed into the washer and dryer and knocked a hole in the wall of the house! That really freaked me out, so much for sleeping that night! I was given a CPAP after that, but never once used it! My second time was better than the first, and was given another CPAP machine. (different insurances), It was hard at first to get used to my nasal pillows and the hard flow of air going down my throat, but eventually I got used to that, I wear my mask every night, and I admit I feel better in the morning. Not any more refreshed, but no sore throat etc. My mask slips all the time, I drool horribly but I breathe all night thru and don't stop breathing. Thats my CPAP story, just thought I'd add it to the rest!
  9. My name is Susi, and this is my first time here on this forum. I have not been banded yet, but am starting to take the first baby steps towards getting the surgery!. I am 47n yrs old, and I have 3 grown kids:Jesse, age 24, Jeremy, age 23 and Kaity, age 19. I am a kindergarten teacher by profession, but am not currently working because of health issues. Much of the weight that I have gained has been in the past 3 years that I have not been working. I have struggled with my weight ever since I had my first son. I've not done the diet thing, I always thought I would fail. I did lose a considerable amount of weight caused by the side effects of medications I was taking at the time which caused me to have a sort of anorexia. But I soon began to gain weight again, this time again due to medications I was taking. I am called an undereater by some because I really don't eat much, but others say that I am a grazer... so I don't know what category you'd put me in! All I know is that I am extremely overweight and want to do something about it! I have many questions, and I think I'll be able to get them answered here! I am glad that I found the forum!
