  1. Gosh that sounds awful! Why didn't the doctors give you something for pain???? I am so sorry that happened to you. I was walking down the hallway and felt something funny happen to me. I thought the band had flipped too, almost like a funny bone sensation. But I had it checked and it was okay. Let us know how it goes. I am praying for your safety.

  2. 2 weeks???? You need to take at least a month before you start trying to do a lot of activity. Everyone is different but I don't think its unusual for you to be tired. I was tired for the first 5 weeks! Let your body heal, it has been through trauma not to mention you are on far fewer calories than you are used to. Your body needs time to adjust, plus you have to get your head into it too .

  3. OH you poor thing! I just got my fill yesterday and it was painful . They said it would be like a bee sting! If the bee was carrying a switch blade, ouch!!! She had to poke and prod me around the belly button area and I think she found the port but it was way painful so I feel your pain. As a matter of fact it still hurts today. I told her to mark the spot so if I need another fill she will be able to find it. What is the procedure you are having? And what does it do?

  4. You know what? I feel your pain, trust me! YOu gotta get back on the horse though, you know what I mean? Stop looking so far in the future, try one day at a time. I found this post on another site. It might help -

Surgery Is Not a Magic Pill

Surgery is not the magic pill we have all been waiting for. You will not wake up thin. You must be willing to meet the band half way. You will lose weight at a different pace than your friends. You must change your behavior for this to work. It is a tool—and nothing more. An electric mixer is easier than mixing by hand but you still have to follow the recipe for the cake to taste good.

Right now you should be asking yourself one question—“Am I ready to go the distance?”

Good Luck! We are all rooting for you :frown:

  5. Well I can honestly say as a big eater that I finally have curbed that beast. I have to make myself eat. The problem for me is that I have not taught myself when enough is enough and get that bloated feeling that is uncomfortable. I had a bowl of Soup and a smoothie today and the smoothie made me not have room for the soup. Its a learning situation and I will have to learn to listen to my body because the old rules don't apply. My advice is to eat very small portions and wait 20 to 30 minutes before eating more of the same.

  6. Hey Pete,

No one told me that there was a limit to the amount of fluids you could take in either. I had a little reflux on the 2nd day after surgery when I got over zealous with a Protein Shake. it was in a word, weird. I am going to miss food and I am a great cook. I have to learn how to cook more healthy fare I guess. It amazing to me the amount information we don't know about this. I mean I was and am still sold on the surgery but it kind of freaks me out the on the number of differences in people's experiences. Some had the pre-op diet some people ate mushy food right away. Where does it end? And everyone has different trials and tribulations they must go through. Sometimes I feel weird that I don't have more issues. Maybe its the luck of the draw or maybe I have yet to run into them. I am on this journey and am grateful that this forum is out here for people like us. I so don't want to be an island :scared2:

  7. Dear Peter,

Your post cracks me up! I got banded last Monday (3/8) I don't know what model it is, just know its a lap band. I am more freaked out by what I can and cannot eat. I have lost 10lbs since the surgery. And people that don't know what I have had done are telling me I look skinnier :scared2:. But losing weight was never the issue for me. It was keeping it off. I bet I have lost over 500 lbs in my liftetime. I had a pre-op diet but I cheated on that. I still lost 12lbs though. I am happy it does not hurt to breathe in anymore. Frankly if they did not show me a picture of my stomach with the lapband in place I would not believe it was in. I have had a minimal amount of pain. Getting used to the way to eat is the hardest part for me. And it seems like every other commercial is about food. Plus I live in Chicago now which is a food capital. I used to live in L.A. but it seems like there are tons of places to eat around here. Good luck on your journey.

  8. Hello my name is Cathy and I had my surgery on 3/8/2010. It was so successful if it weren't for the photos to show me my band I would not have believed it. I went in at 7:00am and was walking out the door by 10:00am. The folks at Sychrony were awesome! Dr. Brad really knows his craft! My biggest problem is my fear of food. I am doing the liquid phase and am okay with it. I fear eating solid food, I want to lose this weight once and for all but I want to learn how to eat to live and not live to eat. I am really scared about this aspect of the weight loss plan.

  9. Hello all,

I had my surgery last Monday (3/8) and things are going very well. I am okay with the liquid diet, the first 2 days I was really not very hungry. The only thing I would change is not going back to work after 2 days of being off. Not a very good idea. I was sore, I work at my desk, but sitting up all day was challenging. I am mentally scared to eat anything. I have been on shakes and broth and Jello since my surgery. Its been okay but I am getting nervous about eating.
