Hello there - I'm looking to get sleeved in the next month and, like you, I'm an attorney. Because of my weight this guy who was once the scourge of courtrooms all over the American West today is embarrassed to even go near one. Yep, it's all come crashing down and now I've decided to do something about it, VSG. How did you come across this particular WLS, I"m wondering, and what kind of research have you done? Looking forward to hearing from you and wishing you all the best success when you go into surgery.:thumbup1:

I"m ready to forget the first time I looked in a store window, saw my reflection, and thought someone was following close behind. It was my huge butt. What a jolt! Getting out of a chair without my knees feeling like they're about to explode. XL: no. T: yes. Having my air cutoff by the booth at Outback (I'm only here to eat--more--yes, you may need a jack to get me the hell out of here). Forgetting that there was a food shortage in my house while I was growing up and spending my adult life eating like it was about to run out again. Going to an NBA game without calling ahead about the seat size. Screw this, I'm 68 and I want this done like yesterday, not some bullshit July. Now!

I read the forums just about every day and post frequently. But again, I'm 68 and by that age there's nothing left to cover up--everyone knows all your secrets! Especially the fact that I"m big as a barn door. This is how it is: I've told several of my friends I'm going to have WLS and not one has said, "You? You don't look obese/fat/overweight to me?" Not one. I guess maybe I was the last to know, you know? Anyway, post away, you'll hear back from some really cool people who really have it together. :001_cool:

Esophageal dysmotility means the normal manner of swallowing working down through the esophagus is haywire. Not a medical definition, but hey. With me it's asymptomatic. (It can be caused by morbid obesity. ahem.):001_cool:

You just go for it! You've got a heckuva lot of life ahead of you and you might as well live it slim and beautiful. Best wishes.:001_cool:

Aha! My surgeon just emailed me and told me that my medical issue is not contraindicated for the sleeve! Hurray! Only people with severe gastroesophageal reflux should be hesitant, but I don't have that. Thank you for listening to me.:001_cool:

OK, my upper GI came back with esophageal dysmotility. Has anyone else had this and still have the VSG? I'm praying it doesn't stop me! Thanks for any advice.

Medicare does not cover VSG. Here is the link http://www2.cms.gov/manuals/downloads/ncd103c1_Part2.pdf -- see page 10 of the document.

Well I'm 68 and looking forward to seeing Dr. Aceves in the OR on June 30. I'm scared as heck and wonder if I'm doing the right thing, but the alternatives, stroke or heart attack, do loom huge for me in the future, according to my PCP, if I don't get this weight off. I take him seriously and so I am proceeding. Wish me luck! Thank you.

My surgery is June 30th so I know I"ll be at Hospital Almater at least part of the weekend. My wife will be with me. If I"m still there I"m sure we'll meet and talk.:001_tt2:

That's right, old as Methusaleh, 68, and going for the sleeve. My PCP told me I"ll have a stroke or heart attack w/i 10 years if I don't lose this 100 pounds and I took him at his word. Dr. Aceves is my choice, after reading just about everything on the Internet and watching everything on YouTube. I"ve already had my knee replaced and would like to keep the other one. I love hiking and x-c skiing and want to get going again. Age, I've come to understand, is a state of mind. It means I've been around the sun 68 times and on this trip I'm giving back a piece of my stomach.

Seriously, any advice, esp. about going south of the border?

West Allis here. I'm just now starting to think about seeing Dr. Aceves in Mexicali for the WLS/sleeve. Right now I"m getting used to the idea of getting better medical care in Mx than the US, but hey, he's done 700 sleeves. Find a U.S. doc with that much experience and I'll think about him/her too. Probably going to get it done June/July, I'm Medicare so it's all self pay. I certainly would like to hear from everyone. Thanks!

Knee arthritis, both knees, had my right knee replaced 2 years ago. I look forward to WLS so I can avoid another knee replacement. Knee replacement is a lot to deal with on a daily basis first two weeks, then it gets much better. Today the replaced knee is pain free and works like a charm. Best.:thumbup:
