  1. Have a great time on your weekend away!!! I can't eat as much as I did before the surgery, but they say you are supposed to only eat 1/2 cup of food per meal and I can eat more than that. I try not to, but sometimes it's hard because I don't feel full on 1/2 cup. I know I have some restriction, but I guess with a fill, it will be better controlled.

  2. Things are good. I was having more bad gas pains for a few days, I thought they were supposed to go away. It started to freak me out, I was thinking my band slipped. I took some advice from others past posts and took some milk of magnesia. That did the trick, it was really just gas. Phew! I haven't had a fill yet. My next appt with my surgeon is July 8th. I'm not sure if that is when I'm supposed to get my first fill, they didn't tell me? Glad to hear you are doing well. How are you doing at exercising? I have been bad at it, I really need to get into some sort of routine.

  3. Ok, I definitely had the gas after surgery. I'm a little over 1 month post op. I pretty much stopped having gas 2 weeks ago and now it's started up again. I did recently switch protein shakes about 2-3 days ago, and they have soy in them which tends to bother me. But it not only feels like gas, it feels like my stomach is very tender (I guess could be a bloated feeling). Are gas problems a natural thing I'm going to have to deal with throughout my banding process? Also, how fragile is the band anyway? I haven't thrown up at all since surgery. It is easy for the band to slip or have problems? I lay on my stomach after eating, is that bad? I know, I know, a lot of silly questions, but these things have been bothering me and I need some words of wisdom from those who have gone before me. Help!
  4. Hey Miss Sammy, I'm not sure if anyone has talked about this yet, but I just read up on my Metaformin I'm taking for diabetes. It says that it can be good for people with PCOS to help them lose weight. It is also know as Glucophage.
  5. Thanks for the good wishes. I think my first fill won't be until July 8th, at least that's when my next doc appt is. My doc is very strict with the diet phases post op. So I'm on my last week of pureed foods and on Sat I start 2 weeks of soft food. Oh the process!!! I know it will all be worth it! Good luck to you as well in your next month, Happy Bandiversary too!
  6. Hey there, today is my 1 month bandiversary!! It's funny that we all go through mourning over our food. I definitely began mourning food as soon as my stomach started to heal, and I still have bouts where I wonder if I should have done this. But then my hopeful side of my brain overpowers my food addicted side of my brain and I realize that I need to do this and I remind myself of my new mantra...Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!!!!! I have a long way to go, but from what I've read we will be able to eat all kinds of food, just in restriction/moderation and feel full and satisfied. My band hasn't been filled yet and I certainly am in bandster hell, but I know it will end and this implant will start to do it's job to help me. Hang in there!

    Foods That Get Stuck!

Ok guys, give it to me. What really happens when things get stuck? I haven't been filled yet, but sometimes when I eat thick things too fast I get this sharp pain going up into my chest. Is this getting stuck. Please give me details so I know what to expect.
  8. Hi Miss Sammy, you are scaring the crap out of me!!!!! I don't know anything about PCOS, but I definitely know about feeling hopeless and that nothing seems like it will change. First off, you are a gorgeous girl and your signature quote is so positive- try to remind yourself of what you wrote to motivate yourself, those words are still within you. I'm only 1 month post-op, but my weight loss has stopped. I've been feeling discouraged and like this isn't going to work. I don't have restriction and want to eat way more than I should, sometimes I talk myself out of it, sometimes I don't. It's my food addicted brain talking, I know I have to overpower it. It does help me to tune into this forum to keep the dark thoughts down and re-motivate myself. Maybe see if you can find a specialist that deals with PCOS who might have some better ideas on how to help. I'm a children's therapist and do know a lot about clinical depression. If you can't seem to get yourself out of this rut, you might want to talk to someone (a professional) to help. You are not alone, remember that. We are all here to support you, just keep tuning in and talking.
  9. I need some guidance. I'm on week 1 of my pureed diet. My nutritionist told me to continue with 2 shakes a day and then include 3-4 ounces of pureed foods at other meals. I haven't been filled yet. I have found I can eat more than 3-4 ounces and I'm worried that if I do, which I have from time to time, that I will stretch my stomach pouch. I had too much to eat for lunch today and feel full with a little tightness going up into my chest-- I won't eat that much again. Please let me know your experiences. Can I stretch my pouch on more than 3-4 ounces?

    Losing weight to fast?

You are probably only eating liquids right now, and on that stage calories are low and yes, you can lose it fast. Be prepared, it definately slows. I'm on pureed foods right now and I have noticed my weight loss slowing. I'm still losing, just at a slower rate cuz I'm getting more calories, fat and carbs.

    Protein

Hello, I've got the shake for you. It's Premier Nutrition's Protein Shake. It has 30 grams of protein per shake!!! It's low fat, low carb and has 160 calories. It tastes good too, I have only seen/tried the chocolate flavor. I get it from Costco, they've had it for a long time, but you may be able to get it from GNC. At Costco it's 18 shakes for something like $25. Highly recommended!
  12. Good for you! Have you started on solid foods yet? I'm in my 1st week of pureed foods, it is much better as now I have some variety. I just ate lunch though and feel like I ate too much, I'm scared it is going to stretch my stomach pouch....yikes! I haven't had a fill yet and feel like I can eat way more than the 3-4 oz. of food at a time my nutritionist tells me to.

  13. Hello everyone! Ok, I'm on my last week (week 3 post op) of my liquid diet. I have 3 more days before I can start my pureed 2 weeks. I have been feeling dizzy for the past 3 days and I think it's because I am starving! I get about 700 calories a day and I could handle it before, but I think my body is not having it anymore. I'm about to start my period, don't know if this has anything to do with it. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

    UGHH, I'm Dizzy! HELP!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I talked to my surgeon's office and they said it sounds like my blood pressure and maybe my meds need to be adjusted due to the weight loss, and to talk to my pcp. I called my doc's office and they couldn't get me in right away, but want me to be seen cuz they said it could be my blood pressure too. I stopped my pill for 2 days and the dizziness definitely decreased a lot ( I don't advise this). I'm gonna get my blood pressure checked at cvs or other drug store cuz I'm not sched to see my pcp until next week. I'm starting pureed foods tonight, I'm actually supposed to begin tomorrow, but what is 1 meal, right?

    4th of July Challenge!

Ha! I feel stupid! I joined the challenge even before reading this thread. I just saw other people's tickers with the challenge on it and said......."hmmmm, that sounds like a good short-term goal". So I'm trying to lose 26 pounds by July 4th. May be difficult as I have no fills, but I'm gonna try!!!

    Have I done major damage?

Hey there! It could also be gas. Very common in the first 2 weeks post op. I had major gas pains after eating that were on my side.
  17. I'm back on July 8th. When do I get my first fill?

  18. Hello,

I just went to see Dr. Hawasli yesterday, well it wasn't actually him as they were running really behind and he had to go so I saw another doc for my first post op appt. Everything is going good! Thanks for the invite to the support group, but I live in Northville and it's soooooo far! That's why this forum is great for me. I'll consider it in the future if I'm needing extra support. Is it your experience that you generally have to wait a long time when you go to Dr. Hawasli's ? Good luck to you.

  19. I'm 5' 4.5'' and my goal weight is 140. I can't remember when I weighed this maybe in middle school? Well that's my plan, I have a long way to go!
  20. I feel your pain! I have a strict doc/nutritionist as well. I had to be on full liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery and for 3 weeks after. Then I have to go to pureed for 2 weeks and then to soft for 2 and finally around the 4th of July I get to have solids! Seems a long ways a way, but I'm determined to stick to it as best I can.
  21. Ok, I know it's only been 1 week since surgery, but I feel like my incisions are healing and feeling good and my insides still seem to ache. Is this normal? I may, again, just be freaking out. I know it isn't that long since surgery. I keep imagining that my band has slipped or something has torn. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just paranoid or is there something to be worried about?
  22. Hello, I'm 6 days post op and thought I was healing fine. I've had a return of gas pain again, I think. It could be the shakes I'm drinking-they have soy and sometimes I can react weird to it-I'm switching to another shake. So anyway, I can feel a bump under my biggest incision and have a tiny bit of clearish fluid coming from the incision. I called my surgeon and they said not to worry if it doesn't hurt and I don't have a fever, neither of which I have. Has anyone else experienced this feeling and the fluid? I don't want to jump the gun and start worrying, any advice?
  23. Yeah for you! Congrats entering into twoderville! I can't wait til I get there!
  24. Hey there! I'm feeling the same way. I was banded on May 14th and can drink an 11oz shake without feeling restriction. From what I've read, it seems some surgeons don't fill the band or only partially fill the band at the time of surgery. People generally go in for a fill 4 to 6 weeks after surgery and then can really feel the restriction. I know I definitely can't eat as much as I could before surgery, but I'm hoping that I'll get more restriction in the months to come with a fill. Hope this helps.
