Will I ever eat a reular meal again?

In answer to you concern about low energy.. I am eight weeks out and have not had this much energy in years. When we are overweight we forget what it feels like to be thin. We are tired all the time and everything hurts. It's hard to wake up in the morning because we have food hangover and we are hooked on caffeine and sugar to get us through the day. BELIEVE me ...because that was me. Now I don't drink coffee or caffeine at all..I wake up with energy and get through the day without the big swings in energy...late afternoon is no longer the difficult part of the day and I sleep like a baby. At first for the first month you may feel a bit weak due to recovering from your surgery but your body will FEAST on your fat stores and have plenty to eat .DOn't worry you'll be running around that ER in no time and feel better than ever. You do need to take some time after surgery to heal though and not go back too soon. Good luck and don't worry. Seaview

    Anyone Else feel Stupid?

It can take a long time for the anesthesia to get out of your system..especiallly if you are a slow metabolizer...easily affected by medicine...in any case I was slurring my speech for about a week and a half after surgery...i would slur sometimes it was weird but probably a side effect of the surgery meds and the pain killers after ...even when I wasn't taking them anymore...don't worry just rest up....Seaview

    Starting to Love Exercise

I lost half a shoe size since my surgery because I lost 30 pounds...so that's how much more weight was pressing down on my feet causing my arches to flatten and my feet to be longer!!! I am litterally "LIGHTER" on my feet! I agree I feel like I can go so much faster when I walk and will begin to run when my weight is down more because I don't want to hurt my knees or ankles...I am right with you with the excercise..it's wonderful...keep it up... congratulations on your weight loss...Seaview
  7. so at six days you may not have enough in you to really poop..your system is still in shock from surgery so don't worry..it needs to adjust to your new stomach...go to the pharmacy and ask him for a mild laxative..maybe a bit or mineral oil would be good..they certainly carry that...it will just make things slippier and it's not laxative...or a supository...but don't worry OK? You will poop eventually...let us know...Seaview

    Struggling :(

You may want to try warm liquids..they are easier on the stomach...tea or chicken broth...you may have acid in your stomach which is making it unhappy...are you taking an antacid?..you may have lactose intolerance which i got after surgery and got sick when i had milk or milk products...also you may just be experiencing nausea...in which case your doctor should give you and antinausea med for that....so I would try warm liquids...the foam stuff is just nausea...you'll be ok...but do talk to your doc...at 17 days you should be getting your protein and liquid in fairly easily so you need to consult with him...good luck...seaview
  10. i answered this question when someone else asked it. Why do you smoke your pot when you can eat it and get twice the high. Just bake it in some low carb recipe and eat it when you are on full solids. Smoking is just bad for you any way you slice it. But ingesting it in food is great! I don't do it but I'm sure there are some great recipes online and you can make them low carb. Seaview

    April 2010 Sleevers!

Hey, I was sleeved April 8 in San Francisco. Los 20 pounds. Difficult first few weeks but now a month out I feel really good. Tired at night though and still take naps during the day when I am able to. Beginning solid foods which isn't saying much but it's good to eat protein and feel full again. Not having to drink so much all the time. I walk 40 minutes a day and am going to begin going to the gym on monday..tomorrow yiiikes...I'm enjoying this part of the journey. Going out to dinner with family tonight for mother's day. Probably won't be able to eat anything but 1/4 cup of protein. That's weird but that's my life right now. Happy mother's day April Sleevers...Seaview

    Skin reaction

my incisions were glued on so they were itchy...i put band aid over the area and after i took off band aid the skin was tender and crazy itchy...i think the solutions they put on there during surgery and all irritates our skin. I put a bit of cortizone cream. cortaid on it and it felt soooo much better...in a day the redness was gone and no more itching....good luck...i don't think it 's an allergy it's just our skin is sensitive...seaview

    scars

I had mine two weeks ago and they're minimal. There are four holes .Three really small ones and on larger one below my diaphragm. My incisions were glued together..He did not stitch at all unless it was below the surface and those are going to go away by themselves. I am almost completely healed. I can go in bath and hot tub. I don't think they'll show hardly at all. It's surprisingly minimal. I am a low BMI. Seaview

    scheduled & sabatoged

Hey, I think that most people like us. Meaning people who overeat compulsively are caretakers. We take care of everyone else except ourselves and then eat to take care of ourselves. This surgery decision was the one time in my life. The ONE time that I did something just for me. Despite everyone's wishes, worries, scary stories, sabotage attempts. When I would sit quietly with myself and listen to my inner voice , I knew that it was right for me. I am two weeks out and still have not told my mother and sister because I know they will make me cry and be scared. You will be fine. You will not die. And you have a support here that will always be here and that understands. If you have only one supportive person in your life that's all you need. I had my husband. Everyone else can go fish. 15. Hey girl. thanks so much for your post. Being two weeks out it's helpful to hear and it resonates with where I am today. Yeah the weight loss doesn't really hit home because you feel like you're recovering from surgery. It's really not like when you white knuckle a diet and lose weight. At least so far. I'm sure that will change along the way. I'm glad you're two weeks ahead of me. I feel comforted to be in your footsteps. Seaview

    No surgery for me.......

I am really sorry to hear you were denied. How sad to be reminded that our health care systems cares nothing about preventative medicine. I paid myself because I saw the writing on the wall and was blessed with the money to pay for it. However it is an awful thing when we have to make ourselves sick or be sick in order to get help. I hope everything works out for you and send good wishes your way. Seaview
  17. OK so i'm two weeks out and no hair loss yet obviously. I've been reading posts about all of the people who experience hair loss. Tons of it. I understand it does grow back but it is scary. Now I want to hear from those of you who did NOT lose hair. There must be some out there. Does it happen to everyone? Do men experience it? Let me know your hair loss stories and that it regrows. And if you have had none let me know too..thanks...seaview

    Sleeping post op

I also think it's a lack of carbs. I'm not used to sleeping on an empty stomcah. I'm used to passing out in a carb induced coma and then getting up late and running for the coffee pot. It's just our bodies might not be getting as much work lately since they're not digesting so much...that's lots of work. I think it will get better in time...when I get up real early I have a bit of soy milk and go back to bed and sleep more.....seaview

    More Scared NOW!!!

I totally understand and I apologize for my reply. It was not thought out and I get that it was not very compassionate. Yes any questions is OK you're right. I am sure that other patients who have been to Mexico can reassure you. Again my apologies. Seaview I was worried that I would not have enough to eat and starve to death..and still ...oddly need reassurance on that one.

    More Scared NOW!!!

You must be kidding! Mexico is a huge country with potable water. The hospital is a sterile environment. Your surgeon doesn't wash his hands in a stream outside! He scrubs in with filtered water and antimicrobial soap. The only places in Mexico where people get into trouble is in places where the water isn't filtered. Or when they swim in water with sewage in it. Which can happen in the States as well. Have you ever been to Mexico? It is a lovely country and I can assure you that your surgeon will be sterile. Cash Pay Question

i self paid in california....did my research....saw the doctor...on a wednesday..made my decision friday..was scheduled three weeks out...done... if you're self pay they'll fit you into their surgery schedule when it's convenient for you...that was my experience. I will say that you really need to do your research first though so you know what you're getting yourself into. It's no small thing. It always sounds good when people are over it..but getting through it is a difficult thing.it's not the easy way out...
  22. i got surgery in san francisco a day after you and i am still on liquids per my doctors orders. Two week of liquids and two of mushies. If your body is not ready tell your doctor. There is no standard for post operative diet with this sleeve. It seems like many doctors do it differently. However if it's painful..you're not ready...go back to mush. My two cents. Seaview

    More Scared NOW!!!

i had a completely different effect from watching the videos. I thought it was really cool and clean. However you shouldn't frighten yourself with these things. Just trust your surgeon. Even if someone explained this to you in laymen's terms if would make no difference. That's why we're not surgeons. If you had to watch how to fly a plane you might be frightened but you would trust your pilot to get you there. Trust and a good surgeon. Don't worry.

    Walking?

I was sleeved 6 days ago and i am pretty darn weak... I walk in the evening with my husband at home so he can catch me if i fall...lol...i'm too afraid to go out alone in the neighborhood...but during the day i walk in place in my living room and watch tv...i just set my phone for 15 minutes and walk in place and then rest and then do it again later...it's really going to take some improvising but it's not like the old days when nothing was possible...you will make it work..good luck.seaview
