  1. I can sooo relate to you. I have had 6 fills myself, since July. I had my band in Mexico on May 31st. It has been a real struggle for me, and finally began losing weight in September. I have lost 25 pounds since September, and though I am happy with it, I wish (and expected) to have lost more by now. I finally feel restriction on most things now, I still have foods that I can eat. I wish I didn't know what my sliders were, but do...I am scheduled for another fill on January 26th, and hoping that it will be THE ONE. As far as supplements, the only thing I take is Flintstone Vitamins, so can't really give you any advice. I do know that I have a lot of trouble drinking anything with my meal. If I PB it is because I drank something on top of my meal. My fill doctor told me that the reasoning behind not drinking was the liquid would help flush the food through the band faster.

Yelp! You're right and that's what I was told, that the Water just flushes the food down. But I am hard headed and I still drink while eating :tongue2:. It will be two years since I got banded on 1/11 and things are fine. I have only had three fills (I think my last one was in July) and I don't think I have found my sweet spot. So I am on liquids until 1/11 to see if I can reach my goal of 170 (yeah right!).

  2. Those are very good questions! Once my pcp thought I had a fatty liver, but after an ultra sound they really couldn't tell. He said the only way was to go inside and do a biopsy. Needless to day I didn't opt to do that, but when I got banded they did a biopsy and my liver was fine (thanks God). So I guess they can't tell unless they are inside....

    Be blessed!

  3. Congrats on being banded!!!! I can only give you some of the instructions that was given to me. I was instructed only to drink Clear liquids for two weeks so the band could heal around my stomach. Unfortunately, I can't answer the stitching question, because I had the glue. As for pain, the only pain I had was gas pain and it was baaad for a while But it WILL pass!! I hope this helps, I'm sure others can assists with the stitching questions. Good luck.

Be blessed! And get ready for the new YOU!!!

  4. What is so great to me about the lapband is that if you mess up, you can always start over to get on the right track again, but it will take time. Lapband is not a quick fix!! I look at it as a tool to get healthier. I'm able to eat anything but now I do really Portion Control. If I eat out, I do only eat half. I'm one of the people that have to sip Water thru straw with eating because that was one habit that I could not break. I'm not an exerciser either but I have found that if I walk those 30 minutes a day that it really helps if I cheat. I fit those 30 minutes in NO MATTER WHAT!! I haven't slime so far and really do not want to experience that. I wish everyone the best in their WL journey!!

Thanks so true, it is also a REMINDER that we can not eat as we did before. So hang in there!!!

    Be blessed!

  5. Thanks TammyJ right back at'cha!!! I go for my 3rd fill on next Thursday. Like you I can eat and eat, so I am back liquids until then.

    Be blessed!

OMG...Work It Girl!!! I am sooooo proud of you!!! You look FANTASTIC!!!!

I'm doing much better now that I'm completely unfilled. The downfall is that I feel like I'm on a "diet" again trying to control my weight but I'm determined not to gain any back.

Take care of yourself and your band!

  6. Hi, everyone I am from NC

I was banded on February 28, 2008. My weight was 301 on my surgery date.

I was so glad to find this forum, especially when I was reading what others were saying about cheating on their post op diet. I am having the same problem and feel so terrible. I have so much support with my family and don't want to let anyone down. They are all looking forward to seeing me lose weight as so as I am.

I am able to eat about whatever I was eating prior to surgery. I have no restriction and hope it will be better once I start receiving fills. Like others that have posted information I am hungry and think of food all the time, although I try not to it is so hard.

I have tried to keep it at mushy foods eg. canned or potted meats.

After reading some of the posts it has helped me to realize how important it is to stick to the post op diet. I plan to give it another try tomorrow and stick with liquids only.

I look forward to receiving posts from others that have been banded.

    Thanks

It is extremely important to stick with the post opt diet no matter what. You want everything to heal. You can do it!!!

    Be blessed!

  7. Hi Sula,

Today I've decided to get the last 13 pounds off by my birthday November 4th. But, I want to do more strength training...I need to tone up!! I've only had two fills and I don't want anymore (if I can help it), I just want to put in the hard work and discipline. So good luck to you!!!

    Be blessed!

Hello all January bandsters. This is my first post in this thread. I was just reading through some of the recent posts and decided I wanted to give an update. I have lost about 80 pounds since starting to lose weight prior to being banded. It has been a slow process but I continue to move downward. I tend to lose 6-8 pounds a month and I do walk at the gym 3 times a week. My band is very finicky. One day I can eat something and be fine, the next day I can eat the same thing and get sick. I have yet to truly eat pizza since being banded. I just scrape off the top and eat that!! People might think I am crazy but it works for me. I continue to struggle with head hunger at times and eating more than I should at one sitting. I have about 9CC in a 10CC band. I am very grateful for my band. I have gone from a size 30/32 to a size 22. I have more energy that ever before. I still have a long way to go but I just keep pressing on, one day at a time. It is nice to have support from other bandsters who are in a similar place.

  9. That's good, I know how it feels to be stuck at a plateau! Congrats!

    Be blessed!

Hi everyone! I think we are on page 3 now!

The scale finally got moving! I have no clue how or why but it did. Maybe I was on a plateau. My eating is ok. I really really really need to slow down. My biggest problem comes when I try to eat too quickly.

I am 8lbs from Onederland and I can't believe it. I haven't been below 200 in years. Since shortly after I had my 20 year old son.

I can't wait to get there!

    How is everyone else doing!?

  10. I can eat pizza with no problem...I can eat anything and I've never PB'D. I just make sure I chew very well.

    Be blessed

Me eating pizza is NOT a pretty sight. The dough can be tough to get down (a good thing, gone are the days of 3 slices!). But I have a tendancy to eat the tip. Then the rest I seem to chew, then spit onto a place. I get the flavors, but not the food.

  11. Good advice!

    Be blessed!

Rainer, I COMPLETELY relate to what you're going through. My best approach was literally to get an MP3 player and CLOSE MY EYES when doing my workout. After a few visits you realize that really, people AREN'T looking at you.

And in any event, I'm certain you will be surprised at how many bigger people you'll be working out with. That's the difference about the Y--it attracts normal people to exercise, not sexy tight bodies paying a lot to see and be seen. If your Y is anything like mine, any time of day you'll see a wide variety of people working out.

You might also want to try a class that is designed for people who are beginning or trying to get back in the swing after a baby or injury or whatever. My Y has a class called "Back In Shape" which is a gentler sort of aerobic class. That's what I started with, and was very happy to find larger women and lots of older women in the class with me. Doing something like that in a group really helped build my self-confidence, I found.
