  1. I am going in next Wednesday to have my gallbladder removed. I was just wondering if anyone else has had to have this done following banding. I had the band placed on 4-14-10. I was wondering how many people have had to have this done following the surgery, and also, what the pain level is like compared to getting the band. I am also nervous about how surgery will affect the band and how much swelling will occur in my stomach related to it. Any advice is appreciated!!

    Fever--Am I rejecting band?

Hi Danielle!! I am sorry to hear that you are running a fever, however I am inclined to agree with your doctor. Dehydration can cause an increased temp. Are you making sure that you are drinking more than enough Water? I have found since I have had the lap-band, I need to drink more than 64oz of water a day. I am not sure why but I feel like crap of I don't. Also, what do your temps normally run? Most doctors wont even consider it a temperature until it reaches atleast 102 degrees. I am a nurse and we get yelled at by docs if we call for anything less than this. Make sure you are taking in plenty of water, and make sure your doc knows you are running a low grade temp!! Sorry!! Just saw you got the band Monday!! Monitor your incisions for redness, excess drainage, and increased warmth. These are the key signs of infection!!

    April bandsters

I was banded April 14th and i have lost 50.4 pounds so far!!! I hope it continues to come off. I got lucky and got restriction with my first fill.
  4. Oh my goodness!! I am currently in the middle of my first stuck episode. Let me tell you if you haven't already experienced it, it HURTS!!! I can feel it in my chest, my back, and my throat. It feels like it is stuck in my esopagus!! I have been sliming from it, and of course we were out at a restaurant to eat. I had to hurry up and leave. And you know what it was on? A piece of a banana. I thought I was chewing well enough, but I guess not!! I know I will be more careful from here on out!! Guess it is liquids for me for the next 24 hours or so!!

    About Yourself

Hello everyone!! My name is Amanda. I am 30 years old, and I have been married for 12 and half years to one of the most supportive men in the world. He has supported me through every diet known to man, and now he is supporting me with my surgery. I have three children two, two boys and a girl. I am a wound care nurse in a long term care facillity, and am currently going back to school to obtain my RN. I was banded April 14th, and I am doing well now. I can hardly tell I have had surgery!! Every now and then I will get sore in my stomach muscles, but generally that is when I feel like I have over-done it for the day. I would do it again in a heartbeat though!!

    First day post op banding

Congratulations to both of you!! I know the day after my surgery was the worst!! But it gets better significantly every day after!! You will probably not notice too much of a difference on straight liquids. When I started adding thicker soups, but still all liquid is when I first started noticing restriction. I sipped water all day and made sure to get my calories and protein in. It was really hard to get enough in, but I am making it. Tomorrow I get to start mushies!! It will be your turn soon, and I am sure we will feel a little restriction. But remember it is only temporary until we get a few fills in!!
  9. I had a hernia repair, and it made no difference to my insurance. They still said nope!!
  10. At my surgeons office, we have a clothing exchange. Is there something like that in your office maybe? Or maybe you could suggest one??

    New to forum

Welcome to the forum!! I am sure that you will find all the answers you are looking for!! As far as financing goes, I can tell you that I am a self pay patient, and I paid $13,700.00 My insurance has a no WLS clause, so they would not cover any of it. As far as side effects you will see on here that people have different effects if they any at all. The most common are pouch dilation (also known as band slippage), and erosion. I am sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now!!

    How much weight have you

I lost 18 pounds on my pre-op diet. I was allowed to have 5 protein shakes a day, which added up to 800 calories.
  21. I never tried the liquid Maalox, I used the Gas-X strips, and they helped a little bit. I know that didn't answer your question, but I hope it helped a little bit.

    April Bandster Bunnies

Rubie- I am saying a prayer for you!! I hope you have a speedy recovery. I am three days out and finally starting to ween myself completely off my pain meds. I am still a little sore, but I am feeling much better. I am just now really starting to feel the shoulder pain I have heard so much about. A heating pad really does help tremendously. And on another positive note, I was able to sleep on my side last night! That felt amazing!!
