  1. I know you aren't supposed to take Advil before surgery (because of it's blood thinning properties) but after surgery is fine. I checked this out with my surgeon because Advil is the only thing that works on my headaches.

    Nurse Bandsters?

I'm in my 3rd year of nursing school--- I definitely didn't want to be one of those huge nurses that has trouble getting off of their seat when a patient needs something.
  3. I currently have 5cc in a 10 cc band and feel like I am very close to good restriction.
  4. Thanks so much for posting this- very interesting!

    Hair loss

I've only been banded since April 22, 2010 and have read some of the posts about hair loss but haven't experienced myself. What does your doctor say about it? Does it happen to everyone? It makes me really nervous to hear about because my hair has been my most redeeming feature for years!

    Severe stomach pain /spasms

I'm going to say that you probably didn't damage anything if the pain has subsided. Are you on any kind of post-op diet? For 2 weeks after, I wasn't allowed anything but Soups, ensures, stuff like that. If you do eat- just remember to chew, chew, chew!! Good luck!
  7. My husband has been really supportive (plus he footed the 16000 for the surgery!). He would, however, sometimes present other points of view that I might not see alone. Some times he will be my "voice of reason" (and I'm his sometimes too) and tell me what I need to hear, not necessarily what I want to hear. Perhaps your hubby is just trying to help you see the whole picture.
  8. Totally normal! Just read some older threads.... I have just now (after my 2nd fill) started losing. Let your body heal and adjust- the weightloss will come.
  9. The pain is definitely manageable! Just remember- everyone is different- it sounds like your friend had a rough time, but that doesn't mean you will. Just take it easy for a few days, follow your post-op diet and most likely you'll be just fine.
  10. I was a 3 for probably two days after... It was way, way, way less painful than childbirth!!!! I only used demerol for 1 day after surgery. On day 5 post-op, I had seriously bad gas pains which was fixed almost immediately with a couple of Gas-x strips.
  11. Wow, I think teenagers are too immature to deal with a Lapband. You are their mother- so I guess you know what is best for them, but I think that surgery should be a last resort. I've read posts on here from some other very young bandsters, and they just don't seem to be mentally-equipped to deal with it all. I really think you should think this through.
  12. Your post made my day! Walking around abit can really help- I find Gas-x and a little moving around really helped. Good luck!
  13. Hi everyone. I'm wondering what you more experienced bandsters have done to deal with emotional eating issues since being banded. I am a major emotional eater- happy, sad, lonely, angry, whatever- and I would love to learn some successful strategies for dealing with this WITH my band. If you have any suggestions, what has worked for you or even any books that you have found helpful, I would love to hear about it. Thanks,
  14. I think it depends on what your doctor gave you for a post-op diet plan. I had 1 week clear liquids; then 1 week full liquids, 1 week pureed food then normal food. What were you given as a post-op diet?
  15. Hi! The same feeling happened to me just short of 1 week post-surgery. It hurt so bad that I secretly thought I was having a heart attack. When I looked it up on the forums, everyone said 'Gas pains'- but I thought, "Gas couldn't possibly hurt this bad!!". Long story short- my sister brought me over some Gas-x strips and the pain went completely away shortly after. Hope it's the same sort of thing for you! Good luck! (and buy some Gas-x strips!)

    What the HELL

I agree- up your protein, and something my nutritionist told me was to avoid drinking your meals. Instead of a slimfast for breakfast, have an egg and a piece of toast and some fruit. Liquid protein slips through too easily- you want to eat things that your body will need to work harder to digest. Just a thought-

    Embarrassing Situation

I wonder- maybe he is talking about kilograms?

    Birth Control

I have the Mirena implant too, and I love it- light to no periods and no weight gain... and it's good for 5 years.

    wondering??

You know, I was just wondering the exact same thing as I read yet another post by someone 3 weeks in complaining that they aren't losing! What are their doctors telling them? Why do they think that their weight loss will be instantaneous? I have been coming on here as a way to keep motivated, but I find all of the negativity and complaining is annoying! (Although I read it all anyways!)

    2 questions for you

Sliming- when you've eaten enough or if you've eaten more than enough, you're body produces mucus like crazy (think of just before you throw up). I'm sure there's a more scientific explanation, but that's my take on it. PBing- productive burping- happens when you eat too fast, don't chew well enough. You literaly feel like you are burping up food (and sometimes something will come up!) Very uncomfortable, and can be embarrassing if it happens in public. Both are very good incentives for stopping when you are satisfied and for chewing well and eating slowly.

    Should have posted again sooner!

It's been just over 1 month since I was banded in Toronto! I am 15 pounds down and am feeling great! I was scared to take up normal foods again, so I stayed on the pureed phase a little longer than recommended, but I'm fully switched over now. I will hopefully be getting my first fill in the next week or 2. Looking ahead and not behind!
  22. I haven't been banded that long (1 month)-so I'm definitely no expert- but your behavior is worrisome to me. I think it's dangerous for your health (especially your teeth, esophagus) to be purging your 'bad' food like this. Could you talk to your doctor and possibly get a referral to a psychologist? ((I'm not sure how the healthcare system works in the US, I'm in Canada. )) It seems to me that you are having problems reconciling the emotional hold that food has on you. Be careful, okay? You don't want to do permanent damage!
  23. I'm 5ft. 2in., and I'm hoping for 120 but would be satisfied at 130.
  24. Definitely- DEFINITELY try the Gas-x strips-- they worked awesome for me when I was having serious gas pain during my first week.

    Water RETENTION!!!

This is something that I always struggle with too- especially when the warmer weather comes. Just try to avoid salt and drink lots of water... those are the big things that can help.
