    If you could....

Before I heard of vsg, I was determined to get a lap band. Then a close friend and her sister told me about vsg. The sister had it done and was doing amazing! She looked great. She felt great. She was so excited when she talked about her surgery. My friend told me she was going to have it done as well, so I decided to research it. Once I learned more about it and all the problems experienced by lap band recipients, I knew it was vsg for me! It's been just over 2 months, and I wouldn't change a thing...except that I would have done it YEARS ago if I could do it over. I am THRILLED with everything about it!

    Wondering if something is "wrong"

I had a lot of hunger in the beginning before I was on solid foods. I got so tired of people telling me it was head hunger when I knew good and well it wasn't!! Once I got on soft foods (not just yogurt, etc), it got a lot better. Hang in there! It will get better soon!!

    sweet tooth and sleeve surgery

I have always had a HUGE sweet tooth. I honestly felt as though I was 'addicted' to sugar. food I could walk past, but I NEVER walked past chocolate, ice cream, etc. I'm a little past 2 months post op and I am a completely different person. I can easily walk past any form of sugar if I want. I buy Cookies and ice cream etc for my family. It doesn't tempt me at all. Prior to surgery, I could easily eat an entire pack of oreos. We've had a pack of oreos in the kitchen for several weeks now, and I haven't had a single one. I don't know why, but it's just not something that tempts me anymore. Now having said that, I have had an ice cream cone from McDonalds a couple of times...but I can't eat it all. I usually eat 'most' of the ice cream above the cone and I never even touch the cone. Sometimes I only have a couple of licks and the rest goes into the garbage. There was a time when I would eat all of mine, and then drink the rest of each of my children's milkshakes.
  6. For the first couple of weeks, hydration needs to be your focus. Don't worry about the Protein just yet. I LIVED on large cups of soft, crushed ice from Sonic (at least one/day) for the first week. I kept it in the freezer and portioned out small (very small toddler sized cups) and ate on it all day. I also had several, several sugar free popsicles each day. For the first several days, that was all I had. I probably started adding a protein shake/day at about 4 days out. I was also allowed tomato Soup, chicken broth, and sf hot chocolate but the ice and popsicles were what I wanted most. Best wishes! The first week was pretty tough, but every day got better after that.

    NSAIDS

Yes you can take nsaids with vsg. That's one of the main reasons I chose vsg. I have to take ibuprofin for my knee quite often. My surgeon said that I need to take a PPI with it, and if I ever have to take high doses of it then I might have to take a PPI in the morning and one in the evening. I started taking it occasionally at about 6 weeks out with the surgeon's permission.
  8. That's fantastic!! Congratulations!!

    IT HAS BEGUN *ominous music*

Oh dear....we were sleeved on the same day, so I guess I should brace myself. The difference is I DON'T have thick hair. I have to wear a hairpiece as it is. I'm afraid I'll end up in a wig eventually.

    When will i feel better?

Day 5 was definitely a turning point for me, but even then it wasn't a huge improvement...but it was noticeable. I felt completely 100% at 3 1/2 week post op. Hang in there!! I remember very well how hard it was that first week, but it will get better soon!!

PCOS patients I need your help

My surgeon took me off mine 2 days before surgery and told me not to take it ever again. He said I shouldn't need it ever again. My PCP agreed with him and took it off my chart.
  12. I take my measurements on the monthly anniversary of my surgery.

how long is the 3 week stall?

Mine hit in the third week and lasted 3 weeks. It felt more like an eternity!
  14. mythreechildren2001

Tell me about your 1st stall......

My stall started in my 3rd week and lasted 3 weeks. It wasn't fun AT ALL, but the losses have pretty nice since. Hang in there! The scale will move again

Mine was all on the right because that was where my largest incision was. My pain/discomfort left at 3 1/2 weeks.

    hair pieces for curly hair?

I've got the same problem. I have lost at least 1/2 of my hair. I've been to numerous drs from endocrinologists to dermatologists, and nobody can help. I've been wearing toppers for a few years now. wigsupport.com is an excellent support board. The lady that runs the board owns a wig store, and she is extremely helpful in finding a solution. I've been buying from her for years. She is awesome. I don't have curly hair, so I don't know what's out there for that hair type, but this website can definitely help. I doubt that my hair will return even after I lose weight because it's been gone so long. A dermatologist told me the scalp scars over after a time, and the hair can't regrow. My heart goes out to anyone dealing with this issue, because it's been extremely difficult, painful, and embarrassing for me.

I ate chips and half a bagel. I'm worried!

I'm glad to know I'm not alone here as well! I'm 7 weeks out today (yay!!) and I have undereaten my sleeve all along. This is good, but it makes for a mystery and self doubt...or sleeve doubt. It makes me wonder whether I will know when I've eaten too much?? What will happen if I became weak and 'binged' as I have sooo many times in the past?? Fortunately I've not yet been placed in a situation that I've succumbed to temptation, but I know that time will come. This whole ride has been incredibly simple, yet incredibly heavy on the mind games and what ifs.....

    surgery 08/15 and pain

I don't know anything about leaks, but I know that I had pain that came and went for 3 1/2 weeks post op. Sometimes the pain was really bad, but then the next day it would be better...then reapeat. I was so glad when that finally ended. I'm now 7 weeks out, and haven't had any pain there for over 3 weeks so it does get better.

    VSG Surgery vs. C-Section

I had twins almost 10 years ago. The first twin born came so quickly that they were unable to administer any pain meds, so she was born naturally. The second twin was coming quickly enough so they put me to sleep, and she was born via c-section. The pain from the vsg was MUCH worse for me than the c-section. After 5 days, however, I was feeling great with only lingering incision pain from my largest incision. That went away completely at 3 1/2 weeks post op, and I felt completely back to normal from that point on. I really wasn't prepared for the post op pain from vsg, but every day got better.

    How am I doing?

I was sleeved July 12. I started the day of surgery at 277. This morning I was 250.8 so that is a loss of 26 lbs since surgery. Sounds like we are on the same track in regards to pounds lost.
  25. I've been off blood pressure meds since the day of surgery. For the first few weeks post op I checked it first thing every morning, and my numbers were stellar. Today I had this weird room spin experience. I went to see the school nurse where I teach, and my blood pressure was high again for the first time post op. It was 137/94 but my pulse was 60. After school I went to my dr's office for a blood pressure check, and it was 137/112. She tried again, and it was 136/98 and my pulse was 68. The nurse recommended I check it again at home and if it was still high to take my blood pressure med. It was high at home, so I took my meds. A couple of hours later, I checked it again. It was down to 126/86 but my pulse was only 51. I set up an appt with my PCP for tomorrow at 9, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?? I'm more than a little concerned.
